Amick Interview with George Maloof

I will bite my tongue and not say what I want to say. The sight of George Maloof makes me want to vomit.

The thing that smells in his story is that he claims he has been against paying any development costs from the beginning. Why the hell did he agree to them on the term sheet? Seriously... if he's been totally open and transparent about not paying for these costs (and especially about covering for AEG's) why walk out of the Orlando hotel room with them still on it?

The answer of course... is so that he can throw these bumps in the road any way he can to try to sabotage this deal. Creating enough of a public scare that impedes a city council vote will do that. This isn't standard "negotiating". It's working towards your own personal ends that are different than the stated ends you claim.

Last time I checked, "tenants" of developed properties didn't get half the frickin naming rights. Care to give that up George?

Baja... don't bite your tongue. I want to know what you have to say, as I'm sure many others here do to! If you must, pm me!

This. I would like to hear it also. I'll come right out and say what I think right now btw, %*$@ George Maloof. The guy is a snake and he doesn't care about Sac one bit, he wants to screw us over. I'm not real surprised though, he probably still wants the wad of cash Samueli was willing to hand them in Anaheim in exchange basically for the Kings. I am ready to bring on Burkle or someone here. Friggin done with the Maloofs, I feel like why can't we keep the Kings and just be rid of these guys already? It's not fair. A guy like Burkle would be willing to hire a good coach and do whatever needed to win, and also spend a decent amount more on FAs, while happily keeping the team in Sac. The Maloofs would rather put the screws to the Sac fans and City Council so they can take the money from Samueli and pretend they're hollywood celebrities who people actually care about. Ugh.

Maloofs have lost me a LONG LONG time ago and would love nothing more than for the Kings to get a great owner who is willing to spend the money to put the contender on the floor. The great folks of Sacramento deserve this. They have given the team a great deal over the last 26 years and it's about time the Kings gave back to the fans.

I am just hopeful that there is a way for NBA to force the Maloofs to sell.

What I don't get is why there is such a big fuss about $3.25 million. This shouldn't be an issue for the Maloofs. Chuck Hayes costs more than that but we all know how George is so if I'm the league, I just front the entire $3.25 million with the understanding that that's where the line is being drawn. If Milwaukee or some other city that is trying to get an arena done wants the same treatment then the league can say something along the lines that if another franchise is just going to be a tenant then the league is willing to front a maximum of $3.5 million for pre development costs to make up for not being the owner/operator of an arena which would make it a more profitable financial venture.

Yeah, I realize that the league shouldn't bow down to cheap owners. On the other hand, $3.5 or something in that neighborhood is a cheap price to pay, especially if that's the difference between keeping teams at home as opposed to relocating which is always a black eye to the league and winds up being a much worse hit than a $3.5 million payment on behalf of a rent paying owner.

What bugs me the most about this whole thing is the negotiating in public what should be done in private.

I have no doubts that the Maloofs leaked that story to the Los Angeles Times. That newspaper does not care what is going on up here with the arena. They are not just trolling Sacramento in order to gain an edge for the Kings to go South. Somebody had to give them that story. Somebody had to give The Times an indication that Anaheim is "still in play" That stuff isn't just made up.

The Maloofs have zero leverage in this negotiation:

1. The NBA is not going to let them move to Anaheim, unless Sac just drops the ball.
2. If the family pulls out of the deal now, they still have a fan base to serve for the 2012-13 season.
3. See #1, David Stern wants to keep the franchise in Sacramento and has Ron Burkle in his back pocket.
4. THE MALOOFS HAVE NO MONEY!!! They may have millions, but they are not "major league" rich.

I won't use the word hate, that should be reserved for the Hitler's of the world. But I dispise George Maloof, and his famly isn't far behind. Here's a question! Where is Gavin? Where is Joe? Aren't they the two brothers that fought hard to keep the team in sacramento?. I'm sick of this good cop/bad cop crap. The whole family is trying to play us, and I've lost all respect for them. The truth is, they've been strong armed by Johnson and the league into doing something they never wanted to do, and now their looking for a way out. Whats the best way out? Stir the pot and cause the city council or possibly AEG to reneg on its part of the deal. Fan the flames of disent.

This is exactly what they did with Q & R. They blew it up at the last minute, and there was no time to recover PR wise. These aren't stumbling, bumbling idiots. They know exactly what they're doing. They're sleezy backstabbing bastards that have squandered the family fortune, don't have the money to continue down the path their on, and are doing everything they can to keep their head above water. I say, let them drown. Bring in a new owner, and good riddence to the Maloofs and the whole slimey family.

And if I'm wrong, then prove me wrong. Get your big butt off your hands Gavin, and go tell your loudmouthed brother to shut the F--k up. No, on second thought, I'm done with you.

What bugs me the most about this whole thing is the negotiating in public what should be done in private.

Reason it's being done in public is there is public money at stake, and, that there are city council votes required to get this thing passed. George is using that to his advantage (if you believe he's actually "negotiating" and not trying to scuttle the deal.) The more he can freak out the fan base, the more the city will be required to give up in order to have the team stay.

I just don't see Stern allowing any kind of shenanigans by George to try to weasel the team down to Anaheim. Stern ain't no dummy.

Let us hope and pray that you are correct. One thing we know to be true. If Stern wanted the Kings in Anaheim, he could have just let them move last year. He and the league have put a lot of effort into the this deal, so I doubt he'll just roll over and let George and family pack up and leave. Well maybe he would, but they would be leaving without the team. Which is my perference. I love the word "Shenanigans" by the way...

I honestly don't believe that Joe or Gavin are trying to sabotage the deal. Yes, they are horrible businessmen and whine and complain all the time, but I also detected lots of sincerity when Gavin broke down in front of the camera when they had decided to go ahead with the arena deal. I have a good BS detector, and his emotion and hapiness wasn't faked in my opinion.
