I think it’s more like “why wouldn’t he be?”

Apart from his random 360 dunks and some guest appearances on the court, he has been difficult to work with. Losing control of his weight repeatedly, sour attitude, getting suspended, and not to mention his off the court drama with various women. I’m sure there’s even more, but that’s what I just heard as someone who doesn’t even really keep up with news around the league.

The contract doesn't return draft picks or more talent if he is fat though. So basically it saves the Kings some money while doing nothing for the fans.

If we were getting 5 picks and Zion ok fine. But if Zion is supposed to be a superstar that is equal to Fox when one guy plays 77+ games a year and one guy plays <40 hell no. It may as well be Bagley over Luka again, "but different".

I disagree. We are 3.5 games out of 5th and have been playing well. Playing well without/despite Fox. We seemed to be better with Monk running things and if we can plug in a Collins type player next to Sabonis or even a legit backup center we are a better team. I don’t buy the “we are going nowhere fast”

Also, over our next 12 games we play Portland, Utah, Charlotte, NO 3 times lol, GS and Orlando at home and an injured Dallas and Minny team. Lots of winnable games.

That's where I am, too. This is a golden opportunity for the front office to right the ship and get the power forward and center that we need, or at the very least, good defenders at small forward and power forward, plus two or three first-round picks in addition to those two players. Do that and this team will flourish.

I’m not convinced that a Monk Sabonis pick and roll can’t be that go to solution. I heard an interesting point on the Simmons show that Fox and Sabonis struggle a bit because both are primarily left handed. They were saying it in terms of Fox and Wemby but it would also be true of Monk and Sabonis. That may be partly why Monk can make some passes to Domas that Fox doesn’t make

Yeah, you’re taking a swing that he can get his act together and get healthy, but I’m more okay with taking that swing when you’re being forced to send out a star who doesn’t want to be here anymore.

It’s probably also worth calling out that Zion has never played with someone as good as Sabonis before. Now they’re not the cleanest fit on paper considering neither have great length for their position and neither are good/great defenders, but Sabonis’ new found 3PT shooting and his elite passing for a C may make that work offensively. Surround those two with defenders and shooters (and a PG like Monk) and I’m sure it’d be a fun/interesting team to watch.

The longer I've looked at Monk, the more I believe he's a fantastic 6th man, but not a pg starter. It's not because he doesn't have the physical tools for pg, it's just that he doesn't have the consistently strong mental approach for the starting pg position. It's not who he is. Too much up and down in his performances. One game he looks great, the next he's throwing it to God knows who. I really think it's because the mental part of the game wears him down. That's why he was sooo happy that Fox did come back from injury; it took some of the pressure off him at the pg position. If the Kings bring some athletic length for Fox I think Monk can hold down the fort, but I'm not betting on him as a long term answer.

I heard that too (Fox and Domas both being lefty breaks their continuity) so that’s interesting.

I initially felt the same way. And I was very against Monk starting.

But thinking about it more, I don't know how many players have had a career arc like Monk.

He was viewed as a potential bust in Charlotte, a decent role player in LA and then an elite 6th man in Sacramento. Malik has evolved a lot the last few seasons. He definitely looked like a starting PG when Fox was out.

He is definitely streaky offensively and he doesn't have defense to fall back on when his shot isn't falling, but he can absolutely play make for others.

As for his ups & downs, it's an issue, but it's a game to game issue vs Fox who tends to go into prolonged funks for stretches of games.

“Superstar” fox only shows up for 40 games too and his level isn’t as high as zions

the other option is being a treadmill team

If heat offer Ware Spurs package isn’t eating it I don’t care about some late round picks or middle rounders in the hawks pick outside of this coming year. Ware defense with Keegan/keon and he’s already shown he will be a good shooter
