Amick: De’Aaron Fox requests trade

View attachment 13206 An interesting post on X that has now been deleted, apparently.
The Foxes and his agent are looking out for themselves right now. Yes, the best time to trade him is sooner than later so that he can sign an extension for bigger money than if he goes to free agency. I think everyone realizes he’s not going to be all-NBA this year so the Supermax is a pipedream

Our roster is very young. Lots of top end players make deep runs in the 30-35 age range. We have a FO that has a solid draft track record. If we load up on picks and rookie-contract players we will be fine.

Lots of people have immediate knee jerk “REBUILD!!” reaction but it’s not warranted, not yet at least. Same people were calling for it before MB got fired and saying the roster was broken, not just underperforming. They were wrong and DC is proving that.

our biggest impediment to growing and improving is a lack of draft picks. If we fix that or get rookie scale players (because CBA) we are in a good position. Domas is getting better every year, Ellis is a stud, Keegan is returning to form, Monk we have for a while, etc. Domas is closer to a 1A player than we give him credit for and the idea of blowing everything up in a quest for drafting the next LeBron is a terrible strategy

“CWebb vs Peja” was always silly.
Agree with all of this and I was worried about our lack of draft picks going forward, combined with mega salaries we were soon going to have to pay. We need to be more like Houston, less like the Lakers (goes without saying).

I think now is the time to load up on more young talent and picks.

Blessing in disguise.

I’m confused. On Matt George’s podcast he said that Fox did NOT request a trade. He was adamant about it.

He said the org told Fox’s agent they were open to discussing trades that include Fox.

Is he mistaken? Did I misunderstand?
It's just slimy PR stuff to save Fox's image while also expressing the desire to leave privately. Snake behavior and not something I want on this team.

I remember when "players demanding a trade" was essentially a death sentence for their popularity both in the hometown and across the league. You'd forever be branded a selfish, "me first" guy.

Agents have really changed the game, and I'm not convinced it's been for the better.

I will say this, no one fights harder for their players as an agent than Rich Paul. On the same hand, no one strikes out more than Rich Paul and the list of stars that had to drop Rich Paul as an agent after he sorta left them hanging is a long one.

Other than picks (which is not what this team needs to accumulate unless they can flip them now or decide to full on rebuild) the Spurs have nothing I want.
That ATL pick this season has a chance to net us a great young talent on a rookie deal though. If they keep sliding and it ends up top 4, you’re getting either white KG, Rutgers Cade Cunningham, potentially the best Lithuanian to ever play in the NBA non-Sabonis edition, or Brandon Miller who hasn’t been an accessory to murder (though I think he’s got a really good chance at being a bust).

It’s not that we think he’s gonna be easily replaceable. I saw the writing on the wall. Dude wants out and he’s not leaving us much choice. Either trade him or lose him for nothing. I also don’t think Fox is worth a super max. I am choosing to look at this as a good solution for the kings. Fox isn’t “the guy” this team has always wanted him to be. So let’s get rid of him and hopefully we get better.

Fox’s wife should be sitting this one out…. We don’t need her commentary
Absolutely unreal that a grown man is letting is wife "negotiate" for him on Twitter. I'm thinking she wears the pants in that house. I always suspected that when I would hear stories about her "coaching" him on his game and giving him critical feedback.

Who in the world wants to come home from their extremely high level job where they are one of the best in the world, surrounded by the best coaches money can buy, only to be nagged by your wife about how you could "do better". Fox is whipped. She's probably driving the trade demand as well.

-5 Lasagnas for Reecey-poo.

I honestly don't understand why FOX want to leave though. I do think he deserved full paid $. Unless owner is stingy (which is obvious throughout the years), I don't see why he is leaving.
I've wondered that too. He doesn't seem to be unhappy per se. Reports I've been seeing suggest that he was concerned about how much toll getting to the postseason would take on his body with this team, preferring a situation where he can play fewer minutes and be fresher/healthier for the playoffs.

looking at the standings, not sure I see a path to a top 6 selection for Atlanta unless there is some luck. My best guess is they finish 9th or 10th. Still a good pick though.

It’s hilarious watching media members who were just talking about how the Kings might have been smart for firing Mike Brown after all, suddenly repivoting back to “Firing Mike Brown was wrong!” Because De’Aaron Fox was against it.

Portland randomly deciding to win now and the Sixers sorta trying to play both sides of the tank discussion kinda puts ATL’s ultimate position in flux but you really never know what may happen over the last 30 plus games of the season.

If that pick even just ends up as like Liam McFeeley, that’s still really cheap wing and shooting depth to play off of Monk and Domas.

I said this a while back when I admitted that my support for De’Aaron Fox was starting to wane — if he and his ridiculous agent don’t believe he can win in SAC, it’s because HE isn’t good enough!

I’m sick of this attitude and placing blame on the KINGS org as if they haven’t done enough to build around him. They paid De’Aaron and handed him the keys to the proverbial car. And HE hasn’t been able to lift this franchise in the way SGA has in OKC. Take ownership of it, De’Aaron and Rich Paul. You‘re not as good as you think you are!

Now Swipa thinks San Antonio is the where it’s at? Because he needs to ride the coattails of an alleged superstar?

De’Aaron and Rich Paul are lucky I’m not a billionaire owner of this team. I’d sit his @$$ on the bench for the next season and half to waste a crucial portion of his prime, making Paul look like the complete douche that he is, while showing them they don’t really have the power.

I wish these billionaire owners would collude to stop this player/agent nonsense. I mean, the players and agents collude in an effort to power grab — why can’t the owners? There’s really no reason for the players and agents to have this much power over actual billionaires. They wouldn’t if these owners weren’t gutless *******.

Again, if De’Aaron was as good as he and Rich Paul think — the KINGS would be a perennial top 4 seed. But he isn’t and now he’s aligned with the devil and going to tap out. What a loser mentality.

I’m beyond disappointed in De’Aaron turning to the darkside in hiring this disgrace of an agent and buying into his BS. I feel dumb believing he was better than this.

Lastly, too bad Vivek and none his fellow owners have the guts to stand up to the likes of Rich Paul and put them in their place. This didn’t used to be the case. They allowed it to happen.
Excellent post.

Agree with every word.

Many bad actors in this play.

Whichever admin edited my post — Dick is legitimately a nickname for Richard.

Don’t insult me and everyone else with the “against site rules” nonsense. You’re editing the truth.
I was the mod who did it.

Don't pretend you weren't deliberately violating the no-profanity rule by doing it. You were. Intentionally. You did it, I believe, four times in one post, and I was willing to overlook it by just editing it and moving on. Don't insult me by pretending you weren't intentionally breaking the rules. You were. Don't do it again.
