I never said I wasnt going to stay a King's fan. I just meant that it'll most likely never be as enjoyable as it was with that core group of guys. Ive been watching since the Spud Webb, Waymon Tisdale and Mitch Richmond days. I loved the Kings even though they sucked every year. When they finally got good, the winning wasnt the only exciting part. The way they played the game is what I found to be the best part of the team. I guess im just the kind of fan who gets more enjoyment out of the players themselves than the hardware they acheive at the end of the year.

IMHO you were doing real well right up until that last sentence.

It's not about the hardware for those of us who've been around from the very beginning. If it had been, we'd have been gone a long time ago. Do you think we don't enjoy exciting games?

Some of you are assuming the good times will never come again; that no Kings team will ever match the excitement of the era recently concluded. In all honesty, you may be right. But I don't think so...I think there's enough talent being assembled to make this new squad as exciting as the old one. Not in the same way, perhaps, but nothing in sports stays the same forever. In fact, in all honesty, we Kings fans should consider ourselves very lucky that special team lasted as long as it did...

My suggestion is that you wait and give this new group a chance. The way you're talking, it sounds as though you've already made a decision, and I really hate to see that from ANY Kings fan. Yes, that WAS a really special group of players - one we may not see the likes of again in the near future. But who knows? We could actually see something just as exciting, in a different way. Cheer up.

:D

P.S. If you go into the coming season with the belief that you're not going to enjoy it, you may well find yourself the victim of a "self-fulfilling prophecy."

I, for one can't wait to get the season started and see what this group is capable of. You never know what a completely reassembled group is capable of until they actually get things going. I'm excited to see Shareef play (even if I don't think of him as the greatest addition) and I'm also excited to see how things work out with Bonzi Wells. Our roster has changed a lot and now we got a mix of dead-eye shooters and athletic players...should be good !

I'm not excited. This is just another team. Nothing special. There's no need to say "well, if they win the title" or something outlandish like that, because it's not going to happen. Compared to the excitement and intensity shown in the past - particularly the '98-'99 and '01-'02 teams as well as the '03-'04 team from December to Feburary of that year when they were on fire and just destroying teams at will.

Watching the Lakers lose one is a close second.

Absolutely. The Heat would be right at the top of the list, too.

ESP47 is entitled to his/her opinion, but I've been on board with the Kings since '85 and I look forward to every season. Even when they were terrible, there was always the possibility that things would get better, that some unexpected player would emerge as a star, that there would be a big trade, etc.

I was left with kind of a sour taste in my mouth at the end of last season. It was clearly the end of an era, and I wondered whether they'd be able to make the kind of moves they needed to make to be contenders again. But I'm optimistic again and looking forward to the first tip-off.

While the merits of Bonzi Wells and SAR have been discussed ad nauseum here, I feel a lot better about the Kings now than I did last May. Are they a championship team? Maybe not, but I have to believe they're closer than they were. Are they a work in progress? Quite likely, and I think Petrie and company have demonstrated that they're willing to make things happen. Will they be able to acquire the interior defense they need to be a top-level contender? I don't know, but waiting for the answer keeps me interested and excited.

Understand COMPLETELY where you are coming from ....

I for one am turning into a "SHOW ME" fan ....

How many times have we all heard "what has to be done" or "what needs to change" or "we have to do this and that" .... not only from the coaching staff, but from the players, as well.

Gets old .... talk is cheap

Don't get me wrong ... I'm not being negative .... I'm waiiting for POSITIVE RESULTS after steps/action are taken on recognized issues/problems.

But, I do get excited every year ..... that's the optimisim I walk around with in life speaking.

Is being a FAN just being excited when your team has a shot at the title? You must not be a 49er fan!;) I was excited to watch games when the teamREALLY sucked and I'm excited now.

Why commit two and half hours to watching a game if your not excited and enthused about the team?

Yep,my feelings exactly (and I AM a 49er fan:) ). Am I excited about our chances of winning a championship this year? Not particularly, as I would be VERY (pleasantly) surprised if we were a serious contender this year. Am I excited about the season? You bet, I can't wait till it starts. I can't wait to watch basketball again, and to see how this new team works together. I watched this team when they were bad, I watched when the team was so good that I still can't believe we didn't bring home a championship, and I will continue to watch & root for this team.

Sorry, but I can't agree. You are entitled to your feelings so I will not try to change your mind. I, however, look at it differently.

I have been a fan of this team since I was a teenager and am well removed from those years now. I have seen many players come and go. I do get emotionally attached to certain players and get mad/sad when they are no longer around. There are seasons and teams that have provided more "warm feelings" and great memories than others and seasons that I would rather forget. There are players that I wish were still here and players that I wish had NEVER come. That is exactly why this could never be "just another team" to me. Every year provides something special to me. I get joy out of watching them each season. Sometimes that joy comes from arguing with other fans about how good/bad the last game was or the next will be.

I guess I say all that to simply say. I'm a King's fan who waits anxiously for every game each season - no matter the players or chances. One day our team will go all the way. Until then, I'm going to enjoy the ride - bumps and all!

If that was ALL THAT MATTERED, no one would watch sports. Some of us just love the game of basketball, championship or not.

Totally disagree. The old Kings were poetry in motion. I'd much prefer having an exciting team lose over a boring team win it all.

So what team are you watching this year? Detroit, Miami, San Antonio who? If a championship is all that matters then why not just throw Atlanta, New Orleans, Charlotte and all the other BAD teams out of the league.

The championship should be the goal but only ONE teams wins the championship.

If a championship is all that matters to you, fine. It's also a real shame because winning ISN'T everything. Sure, the Detroit Pistons have rings but I wouldn't trade being a fan of theirs the past few years with being of fan of the Sacramento Kings for the same period. I have loved the game of basketball for over 40 years. The game I saw played by our Kings during THE era took my breath away. It was fun; it was exciting; it was heart-breaking, but it was a ride I'll never forget!!!

------------------------------------------------------------

REMINDER: We can all get along and debate with resorting to using the "stupid" stuff.

the reason i watch the kings is to watch them win the championship...anything short of that is a failure......im sure thats how the players look at it too....i will support them no matter WHAT......but i watch them and hope they win it all

Anything short of a championship is failure?

It doesn't matter how the players look at it, BTW. They're being paid obscene amounts of money to play the game. Sure they want the ring. It's the ultimate validation of them as players and participants in their chosen field.

I will continue to watch and root for my team whether they win it all or not. To me, trying your best under the circumstances you're handed also has to count. The 2003 Kings were NOT failures. You will never convince me otherwise.

We all watch and hope they will win. But to make the statement that anything short of the biggest prize is failure is just not something I personally can agree with.

We all hope they win it all. Everyone wants their team to succeed. I, too, am sure that the players look at it as a failure if they do not win the championship, at least right after the season is over. BUT, with time comes perspective - even with players. Ultimate success is not measured by trpophies. Just look at all the Greats who never won a ring.

I, personally, watch the Kings because I love the game. This is my team, win or lose. I'll watch them either way. That is not to say that I would not be happier if they won; but if they lose, I will not watch them any less.

of course a championship would be awesome but there's more to it than that.
There must be, we've never won and we're still here. If we never win a ring I'll still be a fan. I like good bball and seeing how players develop, especially those in purple and black. I definitely think this season will be interesting. We have more changes than we have in a few years and it will be exciting to see how well these new players do. I'm just hoping for less injuries and a ring would be the icing on the cake.
GO KINGS!!

I will guarantee one thing right here and now: We are NOT going to be bored.

GO KINGS!!!!!

I completely and totally agree.

I may complain, gripe, etc. but at the end of the day, I am still a fan of the Sacramento Kings - whether they win 60 games or 16.

There is excitement in the air, and it's the excitement of the unknown. Our team has almost completely rebuilt from the glory days, and we'll always have those memories. Now, however, it's time to look forward.

It will still be Kings basketball, because it's the fans who create a lot of that excitement. As long as we're behind the team and continue to make Arco the THUNDERDOME of the NBA, the excitement will keep on keeping on. It's a true symbiotic relationship. We feed the team and the team feeds us. Thus it has been written and thus it ever shall be.

Now and forever,

GO KINGS!!!!!

The other Thunderdome aint too bad either... ;)

Yeah, I'm a 49ers fan. I'm enthused, I guess. Maybe interested would be a better way to put it. I just don't see how someone can get excited about a team that isn't going to do anything special this year. They're just going to be too predictable this year. I'll be excited when the season comes. That's an undeniable feeling, the return of the NBA. But I'm not anxious and jittery in anticipation of seeing the team step on the court for the first time.

I just don't see how we are going to be "too predictable." We have never played together before. I teach sixth grade. I knew most of my students coming into the year. Some I had even taught in a previous grade. For those I did not know personally, I studied their records. I knew much about each student before they entered my classroom from first and second hand information. What I did not know is how they would function together as a class. That is still developing after a couple weeks. Some students were predictable, but not the overall class.

It is impossible for this team to be considered predictable. It is a new team for all practical purposes. Let's give them a chance.

I am excited just to see how they are going to work as a team on the court.

Come on, admit it. Aren't you just at least a little excited to see this group? At least play "Who will get hurt first?".;)
