Man, the Padrino/Warhawk matchup was tough. They were two of my top three lists, and they ended up meeting in the quarterfinals. In the end I went with Warhawk, but it took me about half an hour to make the decision.

Padrino's list was probably hurt a bit by the fact that there are three films on there I've wanted to see pretty badly but never managed to actually watch (Sicario, Knives Out, You Were Never Really Here). But there are a couple of movies on there that might slip by folks (In Bruges, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Under the Skin, and Ran) that really should be required viewing for any film fan, and Jaws (a much better movie than a shark attack movie has any right to be) has the USS Indianapolis speech, which is so great I have to watch it a couple of times a year.

Warhawk went a bit deep into the Marvel movies, which is a genre I don't care for, but did a real solid job in his top ten, and grabbed Three Billboards... (same director as In Bruges! If you like those, I'd also check out Seven Psychopaths.) Warhawk also went after The Force Awakens, which I think is a much better film than the critical/popular reception it seems to have gotten. The format of the draft pretty much precluded anybody running the table on the Peter Jackson LOTR trilogy, and while I stayed away from grabbing single films from the trilogy, I like that other people did pick those up. And then of course, a sneaky great pick in Elf, which is my annual Swedish Meatball rolling companion. Strong at the top, and in the end too many sentimental favorites late for me to vote against.

The cake is a lie.

The Captain had my second top ranked list after my own, so my choice was a no-brainer. Star Wars, Arrival, Ghostbusters, The Hunt for Red October, Galaxy Quest, Ex Machina, and The Martian especially were a strong combination.
