Ainge thinks change is needed...

All-Star
Boston Globe - Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge flew into Los Angeles from Phoenix yesterday morning, arriving in plenty of time to watch his team play the Clippers last night at Staples Center. Ainge will travel with the team to Denver for tomorrow night's game against the Nuggets. He said this scouting trip was planned long ago, but with the Celtics in disarray, the timing naturally raises suspicion.

As the Celtics continue to slump -- they had lost the first three games on the five-game trip -- a major change appears necessary. Forget all the talk of taking a step back to move forward. They are fundamentally flawed. They do not work well together on the court, no matter how many combinations coach Doc Rivers tries. Anyone who has watched Boston fail to play defense on the trip and commit turnover after turnover can see that. Ainge certainly does.

''I think the blame is on everybody," said Ainge. ''But if you can't improve defensively, if you can't improve in limiting turnovers, then you need a change in personnel. No question.

''But I can't make a decision based on what our record is. I have to do what's best for the team. I can't try to put Band-Aids on the bleeding right now. That's up to the coaches and the players to fix the defense and the turnovers. It's on them right now."

When it was pointed out that Ainge brought in Rivers and, with the notable exception of Paul Pierce, he drafted, signed, or acquired in trade all the players on the roster, Ainge said, ''It's on me, too, because of the players and coaches we have. I don't believe we've explored all the options, all the combinations on the roster. Maybe players who are not playing deserve a chance. I know Doc has tried a lot of different combinations.

''At the same time, maybe it calls to shake things up. If the players [who are on the floor] can't defend, can't take care of the ball, then the players who can deserve a chance."

Did I mention we'll throw in scoreless corliss???:D

Anyways, it'd probably have to be a 3 team deal. BUT I think ainge would want peja+bonzi because they're expiring.

First, Corliss provides something right now that this team has been in desperate need of. He's the veteran player with the experience and knowledge (and a championship under his belt) that can be a grounding force to a lot of the players on the team. I honestly don't see him being thrown into a trade just to make the number work, especially when there are others that can fulfill that role.

I don't think you're going to see a trade with Peja and Bonzi going to the same team, primarily because they are BOTH expiring contracts and those are generally basis for trades in and of themselves.

I also don't see Petrie pulling the trigger on another deal that doesn't address our other needs in some way. Pierce would replace Peja, but it wouldn't do anything to address our bench OR our need for some kind of real defensive presence (meaning BIG man).

Bottom line? Danny Ainge is an idiot. (Okay, that may not have actually been part of the post but I thought I'd throw it in anyway because...well, it's true.)

Successful ScenarioDue to Sacramento, Boston, and New York being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Sacramento, Boston, and New York had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Boston gets more young players and an expiring contract, they give up big al but channing frye is a good young big anyways. They get a sacramento pick and the san antonio pick. I don't think they'd turn it down.

New York probably should get the sacramento pick. Player value wise they get a good deal, but I dunno. I don't really think this fits in with what they want to do. They should move stephon marbury in my opinion anyways though. They could maybe give him to dallas for van horn+harris. I still think they might do this deal though, just because isiah always drafts good young players and then trades them.

We do it for sure. Our new lineup is: Brad/Kenny/Pierce/Martin/Bibby. Martin plays a lot better when he starts, and we get a young big man in Al Jefferson. He won't be mad about coming off the bench so this keeps kenny happy. He can also rebound and with his athleticism if he could learn to pass well and shoot the mid range J like brad can(which I assume he would learn just by playing with brad) he'd be a very dangerous player with his athleticism. Jefferson would be our 6th man and we get a back up PG. Then we'd just have to trade skinner for a worse backup big man and a backup 2 guard, just so we can have one. Wouldn't be a problem though since brian doesn't get minutes anyways.

I don't think anybody's untouchable, even shaq got moved. I think that with the right offer, NY would move him. They're terrible and they're still not eliminated yet just because the atlantic/bottom east teams suck so friggin bad. A pick or 2 to replace losing the curry picks might convince them otherwise...

Frye isn't unhappy or demanding a trade like Shaq was though. ;)

Isiah said Frye and Curry are two of their main building blocks.
