This popup keeps on coming up when I try to install the Windows Service Pack 2.

It's driving me nuts and it wont let me install any CDs!

This could be an indication that you're infected by the w32.blaster worm. Since I've never dealt with it, you might want to get a second opinion on that before attempting to do anything about it. It's kind of outside my area of expertise. But you're describing a common symptom to the worm.

Are you rununing any antivirus software?

I tried installing SP1 and it said I needed the minimum. Which I thought was SP1...

I have several virus programs running...and a popupblocker..

Stopzilla, Norton and eTrust EZ antivirus.

then I may have spoken too soon. but just for good measure, i would:

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete
Click the Processes tab.
Double-click the Image Name column header to alphabetically sort the processes/make it easier to find an item
Scroll through the list to double check that you don't have an instance of Msblast.exe running.

I could be way off base, but your system warning has often been the result of just this.

Go to hijackthis.com and download HijackThis, then do a system scan with a log and post the log up here. I'll see if I can help.

Seems to me like you are installing a hotfix and not a full version of Service Pack. Maybe that's an issue ? Make sure that you are installing Service Pack 1 from scratch and not just an update (hotfix).

Well I went to windows downloads.

Well I can't seem to find a link for SP1 on the windows download site, only a link for an SP1 update, which is not the same thing. Try going to the site I previously stated, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, and running their updating software.

Thanks everyone. It finally worked. =D

But another thing went wrong..

I was going to load my new Sims 2 game, but all of a sudden it just started spinning about 3 times then it stopped. My DVD-rom didn't recognize it. I put in a couple of my other CDs and they didn't work either, they just kept on spinning and stopping. On my F: drive when I try to open it manually, it says Please insert a disk into the F: drive.


This is crazy...I might just call up the Geek Squad
