Adelman

We've all beat to death the Chris is better , No Peja is better conversation ( I just don't get it) as much as it can go, so I'll propose a new topic. How would you rate Adelmans performance as coach so far this year? What does he need to accomplish this year to get an extension? Who would you bring in to replace him if you think he should go? I think Adelmans on fire! He's already made several good decisions at key times this year and I like his rotation so far, kinda testing some stuff out...working guys in here and there..resting Chris, but still forming an offense around him, and still winning games(12 of 13). What do you guys think?

The Kings are 13-5. I think Adelman must be doing something right... Of course, I've always thought he did most things right although I've become very frustrated with his short rotations.

As far as the other questions, I can't say who we'd bring in. It would depend on how this season ends, whether the Maloofs want to scrap everything and rebuild, etc. I'll just wait and see what happens...

I proposed he's up for Coach of the Year in another thread. Unlike the Supersonics, who are unarguably more surprising than the Kings this year, the Kings have consistantly put up great numbers over the last 5 years, and we have a long history of overcoming hardship and injury. If Adelman could shoot free throws for the team in the playoffs, we'd already have a championship ring.

I meant he'd have shot them better than the kings who were constantly sprinting up and down the court for an 82 game season and 20 game post-season :)
I know. I just happened to be at basketballreference.com and decided to look up RA's career record.

:D

And he'll pass Sloan up this season to leave him behind only the Holy Triumvirate of Auerbach, Riley & Jackson.

Uhmmmmmmmmm, haven't Jackson, Auerbach and Riles all coached a champion???? Nothing against Adleman, and no I can't think of anyone who could do better with the Kings. Mebbe that just his lot in life, "the best coach to have never won a title".

I think the biggest change in adelman is he has become IMPATIENT!!! which is GREAT for the Kings... with his job on the line, he seems to be more intense and attentive during each game... he is quicker to call a timeouts this year ... actually yelling at his players for not playing hard this year... he is not just sitting on his hands while the kings struggle early, like in the past.. before he would just sit on the bench hoping the players would figure things out themselves, and then the kings would get blownout... this year he's not messing around... he's calling early TIMEOUTS and YELLING at his players!!!.... and the players are responding!!!

adelman know's the maloofs are watching and he has to control the play on the court, and he has... Much like a player in a contract year stepping it up, i think adelman, who is in a contract year, is stepping it up also... and i hope he keeps up the GREAT work!!!

GO KINGS!!!

I'm assuming you mean Riley...

Look at it this way. If Vlade hadn't tipped the ball to Horry in the waning seconds of THAT game, you'd be including Rick Adelman in that trio of champion coaches.

I'd say he's doing pretty well to right the team after a rough start and win 12 of 13 with several players yet to play up to their potential.

I would say that too, NME, but since you already have...

I won't bother! ;)

Complete and utter detachment from reality.

Its virtually impossible for Adelman to win COY precisely becuase he's been so consistently good over his career. His teams don't have down years. There is rarely room for vast improvement. His best shot, and I think the most votes he got, was back in 01 when we jumped from about 44 wins to 55. He was mentioned as well in 02-03 when we devastated by injuries and just kept on rolling. In fact should have gotten considerably more votes that year than he did. But at this point, with all this team has been through, almost no way unless he could get them to win 70. He's into the Jerry Sloan trap at this point -- been winning so long for the same franchise that its just taken for granted after a while.

...
That's why I think he'd have a chance this year. With the Supersonics, whoever their coach is... their success is conspicuous only because they really sucked last year. If he's so great, why weren't they any good before?

The Suns have made key additions (and a notable key subtraction.) The decisions that changed their fortunes weren't necessarily driven by the coach.

Meanwhile, Adelman comes out with a squad that's expected to fall apart, and has been solid. Oughta count for something.
