My speculation is that the Kings would likely have had a few more wins under Adelman (you have to look at the number of games that starters missed to gauge this season), so I would put them at 19-20, maybe 20-19. To think that they would be seven games better is a bit optimistic, no matter how they played at the end of last year.
I also speculate that many people on the board would be wanting Adelman gone if he were still here.
Also, I don't think Adelman was "dissing" the new coach or organization with his statement. He was supporting the players and GM he worked with for many years. What else could he say in that situation? The team isn't good enough to make the playoffs. That would be more of a "burn."
only those who don't know any better.
i've been an adelman supporter since he got here and brought a winning culture with him to sacramento...however, i also have no reservations about pointing out his faults and deficiencies. he's certainly no perfect coach. here's the thing, you're gonna have a hard time finding a coach in the nba that fits the perfect offensive/defensive balance every team wishes to create for themselves. there are only a coupla those guys around, and they aren't leaving the teams they're currently coaching anytime soon.
so yes, i was open to the idea of change at the head coaching position when it was brought up at the end of last season. but i was only open to change if there was a more-than-suitable replacement available that the kings could take a chance on. i'll be straight with people, i was excited about musselman becoming the next kings head coach when he was hired...but it was almost exclusively because the whole whisenant situation had me so worried that musselman seemed like the next red auerbach at the time. at the moment, though, rick adelman's record speaks for itself...as does musselman's. one's a winner. the other is not. we can talk all day about how adelman never got the ring, but i will take my chances every day of the week and twice on sunday with a 752-481 coaching record, along with 8 straight playoff appearances in sacramento.
but i guess that's neither here nor there. the kings will likely be better off in the long run, because a losing culture will earn them some solid draft picks, and, hopefully, a positive future. but that doesn't make adelman supporters wrong about what he is capable of doing.
