This should be the first move the Kings make before the trade deadline:
Fredette
Hickson
Garcia
For
A. Miller
C. Brewer
This trade will help us clear cap space for the next offseason and when it comes time to resign Cousins, Evans, and Thompson. Also we get Brewer who is a young, developing small forward who brings defense, athleticism, and energy.
In this trade, we will be dumping a little over 10 million and receiving a little less than 11 million. Since Miller’s contract is expiring it will give us a little less than 8 million in cap relief next offseason.
This should be the second move the Kings make before the trade deadline:
Hayes
Greene
For
Thabeet/Diop/Magette
This trade is strictly done to get Chuck’s contract off of our books. I never was a fan of his signing and it is apparent that he can be overmatched on the block at times. This will allow us to have more money to use to resign our main pieces when the time comes.
We would be giving up a little less than 7 million and receiving a little over 5 million for Thabeet, 7 million for Diop, and 10 million for Magette. All three of these player contracts are for two years. That means their contracts will be off the books when Tyreke needs to be resigned.
When the draft comes around, the Kings should select one of the following:
Davis
Drummond
Robinson
Henson
With Hickson and Hayes being traded away, it is only logical to draft a big man. We need a defensive, rebounding, and athletic big man next to Cousins, and I feel that all of these players fit that bill.
Considering we will be drafting around the 3 – 8 range, we will probably shovel out a salary around 3 million for the first year.
When free agency rolls around, the Kings should sign both of these players:
Batum
Hinrich
Batum has been a popular choice around these forums and for good reason. He is big, athletic, unselfish, a good shooter, and a good defender. In my eyes, he would be an ideal fit for this team.
Hinrich would be a great pickup for us too. He is a good defender, passer, and three point shooter.
I think we might be able to pick up Batum with a deal that is similar to Thornton’s deal (4 years for 32 million), and we might be able to sign Hinrich for 3 years for 12 million.
In conclusion, by making these trades we will have enough space to sign Batum, Hinrich, and our rookie as well as resign Thompson for 4 years for 24 years and Evans and Cousins to 10 – 12 million a year and still be under the cap in the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 if we amnesty Salmons.
For those of you that do not think the Miller and Brewer deal will work, we can explore Diaw and Biyombo, Kidd and Mahinmi, Humphries and Stevenson, C. Landry and Vasquez, Camby and K. Thomas, Barbosa and Bayless, and Nash. All those combinations work financially and allow us cap relief. I just chose Miller and Brewer because I liked Brewer the most.
For those of you that do not think the Thabeet or Diop or Maggette deal will work, we can try to make this deal for J. O’Neal, Diaw, Jamison, Kwame, Okur, Kaman, Landry, or Camby. All these players work financially and would be off the books in time to resign Evans.
If we can’t get Batum, then we should look to sign Kirilenko or Chandler.
If we can’t get Hinrich, then we should look to sign A. Miller
This is how I hope are lineup and rotation will look like:
PG – Thomas/Hinrich
SG – Evans/Thornton
SF – Batum/Brewer/Honeycutt/Outlaw
PF – Thompson/Rookie Big
C – Cousins/Whiteside
This is the best way to approach this team. It has the highest reward for the least amount of risk.
