A plea to the Maloofs: Let's take out our own billboard.

Years ago when C-Webb was one of the top 5 players in the league his contract was up and there were talks that he was going to test the free agent market and possibly sign somewhere else. The Maloofs wanted him so badly to stay that they took out a huge billboard ad saying they would "mow his lawn" if he stayed. Of course, he ended up staying and the rest was history.

What if we all pitched in and took out our own billboard to plead with the Maloofs to keep the team here? Something to the effect that we would mow THEIR lawns if they stayed. Maybe the point would hit home to them when since they were on the other end of it when they thought they may lose Webber.

I have no idea how much a billboard cost, but I'd be in for $100. I would suggest that a highly respected and trusted poster here like VF21 could escrow the funds through her Paypal account and set something up with an advertising company to get this done FAST.

Thoughts?

I've actually thought about seeing about taking out a full size, colored letter in the Sunday version of the Sacramento Bee. I know VF21 is an amazing at writing up very good reads, so I would probably have her write it. Just something like "PLEASE DO NOT MOVE, PLEASE!!!!!" but in a very long, and emotional letter ;)

P.S. LWP, someone already did the "Maloofs, we will mow your lawn if you stay" on a billboard. It's up now, but I don't remember where...

Ahhh, I didn't know that. That's good. I would be in for the full page ad then....

Not to be negative, but it's not going to make a difference. It's like giving your girlfriend flowers and candy and begging her to stay after she's already found the guy she's going to replace you with.

I'm surprised more fans aren't on board with this idea. I like the idea of a billboard in plain view of city hall, so it's right in the face of every council member when they go to and from work, or look out the window.

I'm just not really sure that much lies with the city council at this point. I do believe that they are committed to getting an arena done, but they would still be a target of pressure if weren't for the MSE elephant in the room. MSE is liable to leave before the council can act, it's MSE that the focus must be turned to.

While I agree with that, and was suggesting it jsut a few days ago, I should also note this though: if there is going to be ANY chance of getting the NBA to not back this move, its absolutely imperative that a strong arean plan be proposed from Sacto's side. If after 12 years or whatever of fumbling about, all of a sudden a viable plan, with funding sources ID's, that could and would get done if the Kings stayed were to pop up, and if it were clear that it would indeed work, I think there could, in a perfect world, be a chance the NBA as a while has second thoughts. A community puts forward a workable plan and their team still leaves = looks bad for the league. Of course there are 1000 excuses they could make to justify it, but it could at least maks them uncomfortable and get some questions to be asked.

Shoot.. If the Kings left I woud pay to put up a billboard that says;

The Kings are GONE, F**K your arena plan!

Don't bother.

Okay kingsboi, and you as a Phoenix resident need to stop with these kinds of comments too. Right, wrong, whatever, its not important. What is importnat is that its an issue of tremendous importance to the Sacramento area fans. Its much important to them than it is to anyone not in the area. Throwing in barbs or reality checks or whatever from outside can only irritate. So please just don't. It will play out like its gong to play out. Maybe just maybe the local fans can make a difference in that. Maybe they can't. But regardless they don't need barbs tossed in from the cheap seats, even, or perhaps especially from fellow fans of the team

You don't seem too happy with my input. Why is that?

Could we not yuck other people's yum? I get that people are frustrated, but to override every single GD thread with negativity gets old. Start your own thread. Call it the Wailing Wall, or whatever, and go bonkers in there. Wait until the team leaves before dancing on the grave. That, and I hope some of you get tossed.

It's like when you're sitting on your couch and she's still going to yoga. Someone else is going to think she's awesome, then she has to decide between fat-couchied you and steel-bunned Sven from the gym. Sure, you could have gone to the gym too. You use to be able to throw the football through those mountains over there. Maybe you'll make an effort to go work out twice a week, but steel-bunned Sven has been going seven days a week waiting for this moment.

This makes no sense. The fanbase is made of the people who have been mowing their lawn. Unless you want to have it say "Please stay and we'll keep mowing your lawn."
