A new week and other news, rumors, etc.

It seemed like a logical time to start a new thread.

The resiliency and dedication of Kings fans never ceases to amaze me. We're still here, waiting not so patiently for the committee to issue its recommendations. Prevailing opinion is that those recommendations will most likely be leaked within hours of their submission to the Board of Governors. Then the next step begins. We all get to try and figure out which team owners will agree with the recommendations and which ones won't (and why they won't).

If this wasn't so serious, it would rank right up there with some of our best TDOS exercises. This time, though, it's not about a desert island or a tropical island or an abandoned city or an asteroid in the middle of some faraway galaxy. It's about us, our team and Sacramento. It's about a group of very wealthy individuals deciding the fate of a professional sports team, and along with it the fate of thousands of blue collar employees, many of whom they have never seen and never would. It's about them deciding what our children and grandchildren will grow up with - a city with a thriving downtown and related attractions or a city left to wither and die. It's about a city long thought to be mired in a political swamp finally dragging itself to shore and starting to evolve.

We need the Kings. We need the opportunity to grow into what the capital of California should be, a vibrant diverse city with state-of-the-art facilities for sports and entertainment. We've waited long enough. The time is now.

The year we drafted Evans was ranked as my #1 TDOS as I had to take a break for the forum for a couple months.

This TDOS will definitely surpass that year as the most agonizing :)

But then again this could turn into the greatest TDOS if we get the vote (which I believe we will).

Oh and speaking of space phenomena (you mentioned an asteroid) there is a comet this December in the Northern Hemisphere which is supposed to be a "once in a civilization" comet. The potential for brightness was off the scale. It's supposed to be brighter than the moon and visible in broad daylight. Let's hope we have clear skies in December!!

The March comet kinda sucked because it was too low on the horizon. But this one in December is supposed to be 20x brighter and bigger.

Any tentative/speculative dates to look forward to? I hate checking in every day for news (even though I can't help it) and just hoping and wishing.

Still no update this morning from #NBA on timing of relocation/finance committee meeting. #NBAKings

So pretty much nada is going on.. Supposedly though on the 20th Chris Daniels said the owners are split 50-50. Not sure if I believe it though.

I don't believe a GD word that trash hack amateur wannabe spineless "reporter" says. And yes I do feel better now.

My understanding is that Friday, April 26, the NBA staff will come out with their recommendation to the BOG on the Sacto/Seattle issue. Does anyone know if this staff recommendation is to be made public or not?

I don't think the owners' opinions are important at the moment. All that matters is the relocation committee's vote, and so far, the only one on the committee who's public expressed a pro-seattle outcome is the San Antinio owner.

April 26th? Well, then, folks.....I reckon a verdict in the favor of the great citizens of the city of Sacramento by the National Basketball Association's Board of Governors will be a fantastic birthday present for the individual who, on KingsFans.com, is widely known to others as TyFreak Evans.

Even if they aren't made public, the BoG won't be able to keep them under wraps for long.

This week should be the week we have a good understanding where this franchise is headed... 27 years of supporting this team and a couple of years discussing the arena situation coming down to this, wow

UGH.. I want for this day to come so bad, but I don't want it to come because it could bring bad news.

had a rotten tooth yanked out of me today, so the cessation of some festering pain inside my head won't feel unfamiliar. looking forward to an end to this.

Note: There were a handful of posts talking about Evans and Rubio. I moved them into their own thread in the Kings Rap forum. We're trying to keep the threads in this area about the "off the court" stuff. :)

I agree with Carmichael Dave mostly except he seems convinced our group is going to match 550, whereas I don't think we need to and shouldn't have to. 525 is already extorted, 75 above record, and if relocation is denied first shouldn't that void Seattles offer so the Maloofs wouldn't have grounds to sue?

Dave is using the dumbed down numbers. The truth is no one is offering anyone $550 million dollars. That number is even misleading as a franchise price. If you look at the details of the Hansen plan the non-majority shares will get far less than the majority shares. The only real numbers that matter and have o match are the dollars in to Maloof pockets, and paying Seattle back the 30 million.

Huh?! Link?!

I would have sworn that Mr Holt would be on our side. He is the head of BoG committee so not exactly a good sign!

Don't jump off that cliff quite yet. Being head of the committee doesn't mean his opinion is worth more. It will be the the recommendation of the entire committee that is given to the BoG.

I recall Holt saying something to a reporter during the two days of the BoG meetings, but that doesn't mean it's his final opinion. And even if it is, there are 11 other votes on the committee.

Everybody is going to be totally insane if they keep trying to foretell the outcome based on drive-by statements made to reporters.

The only quote I remember from Mr. Holt during last week was that the expansion is not off the table.

He's talking about valuation, since the argument is the valuation of other franchises being affected. That it's a huge bonus that new owners will pay the 550 valuation for a SMALL market team. Makes the value of ALL other franchises suddenly shoot through the roof.

Me as well, and didn't he also state that there are strong arguments for both sides? I do not remember him specifically saying anything that would make anyone think he favors Seattle.

So I just spent an hour looking for evidence on the Peter Holt question, because I was CERTAIN that he was a definite Seattle vote and couldn't believe the disbelief here, because it's been treated as a given by every Seattle source I've seen. However, I'm way more optimistic - there is ZERO intel in this question. It sounds like Bob Condotta (Seattle reporter) mentioned on a Seattle radio interview after the presentations by both groups that Holt said something to him that indicated he had been on Sac's side but was now flipped because Seattle's presentation was so good.

That sounds kind of bad until you realize that this has been picked up by NOBODY. Not even Condotta reported it in his own stories - probably means that the evidence really isn't very strong, he was just BSing, and a couple Sonics fans just ran with it. Given the lack of any info on this, I think Holt is probably a 50/50 guy with maybe a slight lean towards Sac. After all, SA is a damn good small market but they'll need an arena too at some point. He's also apparently friends with Bennett (Bennett fronted him some capital to buy the Spurs originally I guess) which could give us some residual disdain for entitled Seattle fans? Anyway, I guess there goes another bullet in the Seattle arsenal.

I read the article, I understand what he was talking about, but I think it is disingenuous to even value the team at 550 mill if you will not actually pay that much for it and you plan to buy all the shares. I may be nit picking, much in the the way I refuse to acknowledge there can be Sonics fans any more than there can be Houston Oilers fans or Chicago Stags fans. But I do believe we do our selves a disservice when we use the 550 mill number since it is not what Hansen even pans to spend.

Yeah, but any way you slice it, it's still a big benefit for owners voting for Sacramento. And, you have to come up with a team valuation SOMEhow. You have to be paying 65% of something.

I do believe a provision exists whereby if minority owners wish to sell that the new owner is obligated to buy their shares at the current valuation. If so it is conceivable that Hansen WOULD pay the full $550 million.

Correct. But there is a rumor they wrote in the contract that they wouldn't pay that for the minority shares and it's one the points they need to clarify with the NBA.

It has also been widely rumored that Hansen plans to force out minority owners by making repeated cash calls until they take his low-ball offers. Given he plans to pay 15 million for 7% of the team he bought at auction we can guess what he values the 35% minority shares at. It is NOT a 550 million dollar deal.
