Sticking with my original vote as this really just muddied things up for me, turning what for me was a non-contest into a tie. Therefore I will give Jespher the nod on account of having the only movie I intended to pick myself on either list.

Tough one. Gave the nod to Star Wars and Holy Grail though. Avatar was a tough challenge though.

I'm voting for the guy who doesn't have Trainspotting. That movie bothered me so much, that I not only walked out of the theater for the first time in my life, I pretty much stopped watching movies (save for, maybe, one or two a year, much less so since my son got old enough that I don't have to go to movies with him), from that point on.

Never saw it. Sounds like I don't need to.

I actually really liked Trainspotting when it came out, probably was in my list of favorite movies for a time (and I do think it is something people should see once), but as time has gone on I have lost any desire to watch it. I think Avatar will fall into that boat for many in the not too distant future. On the other side, both Austin Powers and Napoleon Dynamite fit into this category for me now. I'd probably watch ND if it were on cable and I was flipping channels, but I recently passed on the opportunity to upgrade my DVD to BluRay for under $5.

Even though I voted for Jespher I can't say I'm surprised at how this is turning out so far, I guess I was turned off by overkill on No Bonus's list and the short list is much tighter and better imho. He'd have won my vote by swapping out one of the aforementioned two for Stand By Me, Vacation or Caddyshack.

Not being a baseball fan (and even so, I'd have gone with The Natural), I give the nod to NoBonus in a close race. And Mad Max TWO was a bold move, as well.

I'm not too shocked by the way the voting is going either. For a 12 seed to even push a 5 seed into overtime is an accomplishment. Ultimately, it's tough to top Star Wars and Monty Python's Holy Grail coconuts.

While my list may be lacking the classic powerhouses (mostly taken already in the original Tropical Island Movie Draft, which I self limited from) I am happy with the films I was able to choose. I'm glad that my personality and video viewing preferences were represented appropriately. I was toying with adding a few more classics, but ultimately chose the entertainment/rewatchability road for much of my list.

Coming up with a top 5 list is challenging as well. I almost added either Armageddon or Watchmen instead of Trainspotting for the tie-breaker round...Ultimately I chose versatility, as I'd be watching these 5 films for eternity on my tropical island, and needed enough Comedy, Drama, Music, and Action to get me through.

As a fun aside, in a future version of this draft it may be fun to try doing all the voting with this "pick 5" approach. In the event of a tie you move to your next 5. Might encourage more people to "go deep" with their selections, plus there would be some strategy each head to head round.

This would have been easier if Jespher had left Avatar off his list (don't like it, intensely so). Still, picking Trainspotting gets him my vote.

I'm rewatching Blues Brother's clips tonight, and I'm still amazed at some of the epic cast and cameos in this film. The music still holds up, and is pretty freakin' awesome.

However this turns out; I want to thank Jespher for all of his hard work on this draft. Also, for being a classy competitor. Thanks.

I love this movie... I was going to select it, but you snagged it... I guess I was hoping this sleeper would sleep longer... funny film... also, if you like films like this with a bunch of cameos and stuff (like I do), I have found the "Road to..." movies (Road to Bali, Road to Hong Kong, etc) with young Bob Hope and Bing to be epic and fun to watch... who knew? Here is an example:

Thanks NoBonus. Well played round. I enjoyed several of your films (especially the monster movie picks :)). Good luck and congratulations, you're moving on to the next round!
