No way this game should have been this close. Pelicans are going to murder the Kings if and when they get back to full strength.
Perhaps not if Monte can pick up some front court reinforcements at or before the trade deadline?

The Kings play the Pelicans 3 more times this season and those games are all crammed into the same week (Feb 8 @ SAC, Feb 12 @ NO, and Feb 13 @ NO) right between the trade deadline (Feb 6) and the All-Star break (Feb 14-19).

Same goes for Pelicans that should be active regarding trades in that period as well but perhaps as "sellers" and not "buyers". It's a wild chance but perhaps a Pelican player of their current roster could be in the Kings roster by then.

How is there an official staring directly at this play (01:11 to 01:16) and not calling a moving screen?

Also at 07:40 in this video CJ McCollum catches the ball and casually takes 4 steps before dribbling the ball once and launching a three. And again at 08:30 CJ takes 4 steps after his gather dribble. Umm. What are these officials actually looking at out there? I didn't even watch the game and that's 3 horrible no calls just in the NBA's 9 minute official highlight cut up.

I just don’t know who it would be. Herb has one of the best value contracts in the league and is young. Trey is young and signed for a good deal. Unless the kings swing big for Zion or take BI as a rental I don’t see a fit.

I love the way this team spreads the love and good vibes, even better when we're winning of course. We just have to fix whatever it is that gives us the yips or uncertainty in the final quarter of play. No need to stop doing what works just because there are four minutes remaining lol if anything, we need to lean into what works even more, down the stretch.

These days, teams ask for so much in return and many trades will just never get done as a result. 5 first round picks for one player (for example) is insane.

I was actually worried about that. All the kings radio talk today was how the Pels suck and have 5 wins. Most failed to mention 4 of their starters had recently returned. We wouldn’t have won if Zion was in but that’s beside the point
Despite the 5 wins and injuries, they’d been competitive the previous 4 games prior to playing the KINGS. They beat the Suns, who had Booker and Beale playing, lost to the Spurs by 5, who had Wemby playing, and lost to OKC and Atlanta by 10 and 12 points respectively.

And had Zion actually played, who knows how that changes outcome for better or worse. That’s just an assumption on your part, which doesn’t always workout the way you think it might. How any times have we seen undermanned teams step up? Well, the same often happens in reverse.

Kings were 14–12 at this point last year. 13-13 this season is not bad considering the shooting, 3pt defense (which looks better recently) and the injuries earlier
Agreed. It could be much worse.

FWIW, they were 14-12 in 2022-23 as well. The season they won 48.

Coach Brown needs to figure out why this team starts the season off so slowly all the time. Figure that out and fix it and 50+ shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, the Kings have been hammered by injuries (maybe not as much as the Pels, who I’m assuming are always injured because their players are always clobbering each other at practice, or the Sixers, who might just be stealth tanking at this point) while trying to incorporate a third star into the system and having had most of the rotation out for most of training camp. Now that they’re all rounding back into shape things don’t quite look as bad.

Also the Pels had like a bajillion picks, BI, Josh Hart, and Lonzo Ball from the Lakers trade, got the first overall pick in the subsequent season, and somehow turned it all into a couple of first round exits before largely succumbing to injuries and potentially having to blow things up again. There is really no right way to build a team (also giving up Josh Hart and Lonzo for pretty much nothing doesn’t help matters).
