Dave just needs content. I mean not all of these deals can work out. Most of the great summer deals sucked horribly while everyone was laughing at us and we did ok. I wish we could have moved off some of our expiring deals but that also means we are going to have a fun summer.

also wish I wasn't in meetings all morning, but maybe that's a good thing. kind of free now.

Exactly. Now the idea of staggering Fox/Domas is going to be very interesting since against these 2-3 superstar teams makes it a very daunting task. My prediction is if the Kings make they playoffs you're looking at 44-48 mpg from those two, lol unless the real magic happens with the bench unit. I don't think teams like the Suns or Lakers are going to push for a top 4 seed, they will probably just go all out once the playoffs start.
 
I'll make a leap of faith and say over 50% of the moves in this trade deadline window feel like desperate teams trying to find immediate help, some with potentially franchise-altering consequences. I don't know if that fits McNair's M.O., as having both our current situation and the future in mind seems to be more his philosophy.
 
Props to Geoff Spike HM1 Jc121 who in the "what will happen at the deadline thread" guessed that we would sign a bought out player. Although we technically traded for him we didn't give anything up so I think this was the closest to the correct answer.

Yeah, but the only problem is those consequences probably won't have anything to do with the window of the Kings current incarnation. Fox is a max player and Domas is soon to be one. This isn't a team that is going to have an easy time filling in the blanks. Give this season a test run from here on and then Monte has to get super aggressive if it does indeed appear that the 3-5 seed turns into a 6-8.
 
I'm the biggest longterm guy out there, but the Kings are the freaking 3 seed 54 games in... you have to at least make an attempt to hold on to it. And some of these deals were absolutely within our budget to pull off without sacrificing the future.

I agree with you. Activity is more exciting, even if it's just moving the deck chairs around. It's disappointing we couldn't have at least thrown a couple second round picks around, but question is whether any of it really makes a difference. Outside of Durant yesterday and Irving earlier this week, I'm not sure the rest of the moves end up being better than the continuity and keeping the "good vibes" going. Were certainly some players that could have helped for sure, but lets face it... whether we are the 3rd seed or the 6th, this team is not winning a championship this year.

Not finding a taker (sucker?) for Richaun's contract is a loss for Monte since he's obviously not in our plans and is just dead weight at this point. If I had to pick between being 3rd in the West or fighting for the play-in spot while "featuring" Holmes more in the lineup for the first 2/3 of the season though, I'd gladly take the wins.

We have three games remaining before the All-Star break and they're against Dallas, Dallas, and Phoenix so the pressure is on to get these next three wins and go into the break with a lead on our closest competitors (and the tie-breaker over Dallas). I think everyone in the Kings locker-room knows how important these next three games are. I'm not worried yet but if we play poorly against Dallas (who may or may not have Donic back) and Phoenix (who won't have KD yet and now is also missing Mikal Bridges) that'll be gut check time.

Does having faith in the roster you've already built not count? How much of a difference would Mason Plumlee have made playing ten minutes a night behind Sabonis when we apparently would have needed to send a rotation player to the Hornets (Reggie Jackson better than any of the guys or assets we were looking at moving to them for Plumlee) to make it work?

A little like the Kings. More 4's than 3's but they have Bron and scoring/defense depending on need with Vanderbilt and Rui. Vanderbilt might be the exact type you want next to AD too. AD can keep playing the non punishing big and be happy.
 
Don't forget the fact that WE WERE ahead of most of these teams (3rd top, as of today) and it is THEY who need to get better to catch up to us.

They might have caught up to us with talents on paper but nothing is certain other than that WE DIDN'T GET WORSE and (this group of roster) hopefully continuously get better.

Their guard defense is going to be a major issue for them though while it wasn't quite that before. Even old and burnt out, PatBev was a better defender than DRuss or Beasley.
 
So basically the East dumped a bunch of talent to the West and teams now have way too many 2nd round picks to the point that they'll probably just wind up giving them away for pennies unless trading 5 second round picks for rotation players is just the new norm going forward.
 
We could in theory have more ammo at the deadline next year. Whoever we draft in the first round (assuming we do) and then we can maybe work with Atlanta on those protections and have our 26 and 28 to work with. Or we could trade 7 second rounders for John Collins after he gets benched next season

Did they print more 2nd round picks for today? Because I swear I've heard more than 50 2nd round picks being moved... lol :p

Their roster was bad pre-deadline and did not fit well, and it's impossible to argue that it isn't better right now. They turned Westbrook/Nunn/Beverly/Thomas Bryant/1FRP/multiple SRP's into DeAngelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, and Mo Bamba. Don't care what you think of the Lakers, that is great GM'ing right there.
