02 Kings vs 05 Pistons

Tell me about it. 27 free throws in one quarter, unbelievable.

Sac still outshot LA at the line during that series. They were only up +37 FTs prior to that quarter. (26, btw. ;) And a lot of 'em were clockstoppers in the last couple mins).

You'd have a hard time finding the last 5 game series w/ a +60 FTA advantage. I bet The Beatles hadn't even landed stateside when it last happened.

What does this thread have to do with the Lakers again? :)

My gut reaction is that the Pistons would win. But I've been jaded by the Kings terrible play the last year or so. That '02-'03 team was pretty derned good. Nearly made it to the WCF without Webber. Fully healthy (asking for a lot I know--but this is purely speculative anyways), I'd put them up against anyone in a series.

okay kingsfans, i'm gonna lay down the law here....gargy's right.

the kings outshot LA from the free throw line in that entire series. much of that was due in part to smart kings basketball. true, the kings dealt with many untimely and poorly called fouls, but, like alexanderN said a few posts back, it was a lack of kings poise that lost us a chance at the title, not poor officiating. if i remember correctly, in game 6, the kings shot about 33% from the free throw line, and that was on a helluvalotta free throws. that's a mental deficiency, that's a confidence problem, that's letting the lakers and the refs get inside your head, and there's your ball game, ladies and gentleman, regardless of whether or not bibby's nose actually fouled kobe bryant's elbow.

Not gonna even start the argument, but I think you are wrong let's leave it at that.

"If you care about basketball, Game 6 was a rip-off. The Kings and Lakers didn't decide if this series would be extended. Three referees did." -- Michael Wilbon, Washington Post

hey, i aint saying the kings didnt get jobbed. they did. badly. but they also choked. you cannot expect to win a 7 game series shooting free throws as poorly as the kings did. 33% in game 6 is outrageous, especially considering the free throw shooting talent we had then.

Um, hello? This isn't about the Lakers-Kings.

If you're still whining about the officiating in the 2002 WCF, it's really time to move on.

Bottom line, regardless of what happened prior to Game 7, there WAS a game 7. And there was an overtime to that game. What killed the Kings - more than anything else - was that they choked in the overtime. Period. End of discussion. The Lakers did what the reigning champs should do. They didn't let anything else distract them, and they got the title.

Now as far as the 02 Kings vs. 05 Pistons, I would LOVE to see that series. I think it would possibly be one of the best. But, at the end, I think maturity and experience would win out AGAIN and the Pistons would walk away with the jewelry.

Lakers fans can come on this board and whine about officiating and we aren't supposed to say anything? Please. Think whatever you want, you won't change my mind, I know what I saw, and I will always hate the Lakers for it and their gloating aftewards, and that will never change. Anyways, enough is enough I'll shut up.

You are kidding me right 40 and 20 ok now. Ben is probably the strongest center in league he does not have the lenght that Shaq obviousily but he would be albe prevent Shaq getting in decent position under the basket. That is how they were able to beat LA in 2004. The further Shaq is from the basket the better.

See, look at how quickly people forget. You're talking like you started watching the NBA in about June of '04. If Big Ben can keep Shaq of '02 out of the paint, how come he didn't do it back then? Why couldn't he keep an aging and creaky Shaq out of the paint in the past two playoffs? Only in your imagination is he doing that. He's giving up 5 inches and 100lbs and you're saying he's the strongest center. As long as Shaq is in the league, Ben is 2nd strongest at best.

Just for kicks, Shaquille O'Neal in the 2004 NBA Finals: 26.6ppg on 63% shooting from the floor.

Good thing they kept him away from the basket and did such a great job defending him one-on-one with Wallace.

Yes but Ben still did a good job on Shaq. That being said the other 4 starters on the Pistons would beat the other starters on the Lakers to make a difference. People underestimate how good of the team Detriot is this year. I see no weakness in them especailly the way they have handled the Spurs who is deaper team this year then last.

oh thats a load of crap... first of all the kings shot poorly from the line in game 7 not game 6.. and all i remember in game 6 was hedo and bibby nailing jumpers after jumpers in the 4th while the lakers dumped it into shaq and he would just make a pathetic attempt at the basket and get the foul call... the kings played right the lakers played like chumps and the referees not only allowed such nonsense to go on they also started the whole mess... and bibbys nose actually fouled kobes elbow? give me a break.. the lakers only have 1 true title this decade and that was 01.. in 00 the refs eject rasheed in game 4 allowing the lakers to go up 3-1 in the series and we all know what happened after that.. had the blazers won game 4 and had the series tied at 2 apiece they might have never had to worry about a game 7 fourth quarter collapse.

that was sarcasm, friend.

and regardless of what the situation is, when there's a game 7, and you choke, you can only blame yourself. sure, the kings got jobbed in game 6. everybody knows that. but they choked game 7 away. had they risen up in the face of adversity, they would have a championship to their credit...however, they didn't. kings fans need to stop living in the past. the chance was there, they blew it, and its done with. now its time to start over.

Its Not Living In The Past... If I Was Living In The Past I'd Bring Up The 2000 Lakers/kings Series And Say Oh We Had It We Took Them To Five Games Or I'd Bring Up The 2003 Dallas/kings Series And Say We Had It We Took Them To Seven Games But Theres A Reason Why I Dont Bring Them Up... Its Cause We Still Lost And Got Outplayed In The Decisive Game(regardless Of Webbs Injury).. But With The Lakers We Were Getting Bad Calls Throughout The Series And Especially In The 4th Quarter Of Game 6... Its Not Living In The Past... Its Reiterating The Wrong Doings Of 3 Men In Which Cost The Kings A Title

well, then let's consider it "reiterated," and move on.

Championships aren't won in November-Janurary. We've seen the Kings handle the Spurs early in the season, only to have the tables turned in their April matchups and then eventually be at home watching the Spurs win titles.
