A Sonics fan's point of view

Actually I could envision a situation where Hansen purchases the Kings but works with the NBA to sort out the arena deal over the course of the year to make sure it goes smoothly, turns around and sells to Ranadive, and is then rewarded with an expansion team. Perhaps the expansion team price...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

It makes no sense, everything you stated makes complete sense, but again Stern loves New Orleans for whatever reason. The league has always insisted that New Orleans deserves an NBA team despite all the evidence to the contrary. We're 8 years on from Hurricane Katrina, the sentimentality of that...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

But it isn't the same, again, I'll reiterate, Schultz chose a lower sale price, the NBA didn't force him to take Bennett's deal. Also, Schultz had other investments outside of his ownership in the Sonics. The Maloofs primary investment these days is the Kings from what I can tell, plus they'd be...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

You're right, KJ did a great job to get that deal for your city, and as an outsider I thought that would go through. Terrible owners got in the way. I guess I meant the NBA was orchestrating a way for a new arena deal plus new owners that weren't engaging in shady business practices. Fill me in...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

But the Schultz sale wasn't the same since he chose to sell to Bennett over Ellison, Schultz was the owner. The scenario here is that the Maloofs are the owners, they chose the sale, and the NBA is rejecting it. The two situations aren't the same. I agree too that the delay has nothing to do...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

It would be interesting to see if a case like this exists to see how the courts ruled. Although even then, its still not quite the same since the power structure of the NBA is very different from a corporation even though the concept of a franchise remains the same. But maybe you are right.

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

I agree Hansen would be very stupid to file a lawsuit against the NBA, I'm talking about a lawsuit from the Maloofs.

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

Its good to have opposing views, I've learned a lot more from interacting with all of you as well. Again, I have nothing against your city whatsoever, and hopefully once we both have teams in 2014, we can all look at this whole saga as the beginning of a friendly rivalry.

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

Perhaps they do have safeguards to prevent the Maloofs from filing anti-trust lawsuit to move the team wherever they'd like, but I just don't see how the league can get away with forcing an owner to take less money. It would seem to me that the laws of the United States would give the Maloofs a...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

Option 3 is the most likely scenario, but it still opens up the possibility for a lawsuit unless the NBA pays the Maloofs for the deal they accepted. I don't see how the NBA can force the Maloofs to take less money without starring down litigation, which is why Stern made sure the money matched...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

Dude I'm not spinning anything, to be honest I read more things on your guys end than Seattle's. There is a precedent set by what Al Davis did with the Oakland Raiders, which could happen with the Maloofs. They are a total wild card in this whole situation. The NBA can't force a sale without...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

I told everyone already my interest and preference is in an expansion team in Seattle. I'd rather start from scratch with expansion. I have no obsession over taking your team, I just don't see how its done without creating even more of a mess (ie, rejecting Hansen and putting the game back into...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

I don't quite understand the legal technicalities, but I can say from personal experience, you cannot disqualify how challenging a complicated real estate deal can be. Securing land, or getting people who control the Downtown Plaza, all on the same page, is going to be a tricky, tricky process...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

Of course you prefer that result, and I would too from my end. I want the expansion team in Seattle. Read my previous post, I just don't see how we get to that, this is an immensely complicated deal. The three week pushback from the BOG is going to be because of an expansion announcement, how...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

I agree the Seattle plan isn't complete, it is however a bit further along than the Sacramento plan, not that I'm using this as an argument point, it just seems that from everything I've read, the Seattle plan is perhaps 50-60% of the way done while Sacramento is perhaps 20-30%. Don't disregard...

The wait continues and other news, rumors, etc.

I think its going to be an expansion team to one city or the other, which will make everyone happy, although I'm sure Sacramento will be much happier if the Kings are kept in Sacramento, however it may not logistically or legally work out that way since the Maloofs DO need to get paid. I think...

Potential of NBA market in India (split)

If you read through my posts I haven't disagreed that the NBA doesn't want Vivek, I also clearly stated that I hope Seattle is awarded an expansion team and Sacramento can keep its team. Do you have a problem with these statements? As someone who currently lives abroad, and follows the NBA in a...

Potential of NBA market in India (split)

Well Asia is a big continent, it still isn't that popular in India, its the most popular spectator sport in China and continues to grow substantially every year. Russia is one of the best teams in the world at the moment, the whole Middle East is soccer crazy, Indonesia the 4th most populated...

Potential of NBA market in India (split)

You're arguments just don't make any sense. The only thing that creates demand for the Kings in India is if they are GOOD, or if they have and INDIAN PLAYING BASKETBALL ON THE COURT. The Kings won't be popular in India if they continue to suck, this I will promise you sir. Indians will root for...

Potential of NBA market in India (split)

It comes down to demand. Its simply economics my friend, he may have all of that but it doesn't matter if the Kings aren't a good team. Nobody in India will care about the Sacramento Kings, there simply is no demand in India to watch night after night a mediocre NBA team because its owned by an...
