PPat and JT must NOT HAVE THEIR MINUTES DISRUPTED!!! They are Pillars of the Future! The CORE!!!! omg omg omg!!!!!????!!!!
I like Landry, but he's 29. JT by contrast, is 26, and Pat is 24, and shall be making half of what Landry makes this year.
We are using up about half our cap on a guy who might be better than his replacements, but not significantly. He doesn't really put us in playoff contention, and prevents the growth of guys that are already on the roster, and need to grow.
If we are able to trade JT/PPat now, the move makes some sense. However, JT in particular, is more valuable to the team, due to his size, and the fact that he can play center.
I repeat, the issue is not the signing itself. The primary issue is the seeming lack of plan (maybe there is one, but I'm not seeing it yet). Given our current state, the supposedly great draft, the fact that we can potentially lose our pick altogether, etc., I'm okay with us sucking another year.
The FO might obviously feel totally different. However, the only other direction which I feel they should think about is to get some high level talent, and seriously compete for playoffs. At the minimum, this would have meant retaining Reke, staying with AI, and trading away some of the current roster for better players, even if it means taking additional salary (hey, it's not my money).
This move doesn't make sense to me.
