Down to the wire and other news, rumors, etc.

Napear must go - no ifs ands or buts about it! I think he senses it - knowing full well he's burned helluva lot of bridges in Sac over past few years. For first time of late, there's fits of defensiveness (usually followed by remarkable stupidity) in his voice but still plenty, "I told you so," arrogance as well. With Maloofs out of the picture he knows he better be everybody's pal now - but WE TRUE KINGS FANS IN SACRAMENTO know him too well and we won't be giving him a pass for unforgivable sins.

I sense a major overhaul with the organization and how it does business. I think Napear is out of a job. For those of you wanting a fresh start and new identity, changing the voice of the team is even more effective than changing the team colors. Don't touch Gary Gerould though....

Anyone else going out tonight to celebrate? I want to but until Vivek and company are in control with Hansen and the Maloofs far out of sight, I'm worried of jinxing them. Especially after KJ's remark, "We do not want to dance in the end zone."

Disagree with that last part. For well over a year he didn't support the fans of the city, as it was us against the Maloofs, and he backed them, while shouting down numerous fans who called into his show, even fabricating truths about the Maloofs to make them appear better.

And imo, you can't shout down the same fanbase for an extended period, then turn around and act like you were on our side the entire time. There is the aspect that once Grant found out the Maloofs would sell and he would have different bosses, he changed his tune quite a bit, and that is not honorable. On this forum you can't go around calling people idiots, morons, telling them to go jump off a bridge, etc, but Grant regularly has done that to kings fans, people of the Sac community, the same people he suddenly wants to act like he's on the same side as right now. And my guess is you wouldn't be ok with a poster here doing that, they'd be banned, so why is it ok for Grant to do that to our fanbase, then act like it's water under the bridge just because he's getting new bosses?
Right. Grant backed the Maloofs when it was clear they were trying to disenfranchise the city and directly lie to the fans. He had a chance to do something right and he chickened out. He did harm to the movement to keep the Kings and acting all rah-rha now doesn't change that.

Even though Grant had called me a moron, I do think he was put in a very tough position. A crazy slimy lying employer and basically Grant trying to hold on until this was done without being fired. He was put in a position that he had to not say anything negative about his employers on the air. Personally, I believe that he despises the Maloofs, but I still think he needs to go with the Maloofs for being their mouthpiece.

This remark is PURELY out of respect for the other NBA owners and the process as a whole. It's also a way of not squandering the political momentum, which is still important and needed for keeping the arena process moving through a few hurdles.

So go celebrate!

I cannot find the arena threads. Is there a good link for info on how the downtown arena deal will be funded and run? I keep seeing Seattle people saying the arena will be a tax burden for the city, but I know there's no new taxes involved. I'm just looking for the proper details.

If/when Seattle slides out of the picture, I'm still worried about how this franchise is going to be wrestled out of the M*****fs hands... I don't think our ownership group should have to pay 550 - a full 100 over record, I hope its for the 525 on the table at the highest

They don't know what they are talking about. They are just blown away that their "superior" city didn't get the Kings.

Defending the Maloofs backing out of the arena deal, and claiming it wasn't a good deal from their perspective was selling out the community. It's tough for me to tolerate Grant for that

No tax burden whatsoever. The city's contribution of approx 260 mil will come mostly from leasing out parking revenue. Up front money in exchange for parking revenue for 30 years or so. The parking revenue will be bolstered by the increased traffic to downtown BECAUSE of the arena.

Did anyone notice one of the senator's veiled reference to "growth", with a nod and a wink to KJ? I wonder if KJ is lining up investors for a second sport team? Obvious thought would be the return of the Monarchs, but perhaps NHL?

I'm hoping that if there's another pro-sports franchise out there that could be a second tenant to the arena we make an effort to draw them in. NOT with the Clowns as owners, though!!!
Since one of the main selling points in favor of Sacramento was that we do not have another professional franchise, I'm thinking this will not happen in the immediate future.

See, I didn't hear Grant the Jim Rome-wannabe as I wasn't able to get KHTK radio until quite recently. So I didn't know that Grant Napear. I only know the one who sits next to Jerry. That's my main objection to him - he was an employee of MSE for broadcasting and then acted as though he was totally separate from them when he did his radio show, although it was pretty apparent he couldn't or wouldn't totally attack them even when they were wrong. (And I can even understand that part - you don't attack your boss unless you're willing to pay for it with your job.)

But I'm not worried about Grant or Jerry or anything else right now. I'm just still numb to think that the nightmare is finally over and I can make plans to attend Kings games in the future with my grandchildren without worrying that there won't be a team...

Unfortunately that is the legacy that will be left behind by the Greedy Weasels. The new ownership will have to seriously overpay for the team. Thankfully Hansen's ridiculous valuation has bumped up the prices of all franchises (I read somewhere that if an expansion team was to be granted right now, the valuation would be at $514 Million). So even though they are overpaying, it's not that much in the long term - and I'm sure they're looking more at the long-term bigger picture and not so much at the short-term hit.

They'll be alright...

I want to, but I'm really trying to be cautious.

Don't want to be the "glass half-empty" guy, but it seems like everyone else else drank the glass and aren't thinking twice.

Frankly I don't care how much they have to pay, if they're willing to pay it, they can afford it, and are happy to, then let them. "Record" doesn't really mean much because franchises don't change hands too often, and market forces can change pretty quick. Whose to say it's not worth it at 550?

They will be denied the sale, because for the sale they need to actually 2/3's of the league votes unlike half from the relocation committee.

If watching "Game of Thrones" has taught us nothing else it has taught us this, people like Grant are loyal to he Crown, who ever wears it. He will serve his new masters the same way he served his last. So before we start deciding which heads to decorate the the castle walls with first, perhaps we ought to take a moment to reflect on what the new lord might need. Some sense of stability and consistency amongst the huge changes at the top perhaps? Now if you want the G Man to do double duty on Radio and TV you might be on to some thing. But for tonight I will sip some Jamican Blue Mountain, watch a bunch of old Kings on the OKC Rockets game and enjoy the end of a very nice day.

Chris Daniels is looking for a way to keep the hope in Seattle. Of course Hansen isn't going to say he's giving up today...

I wonder if he gives us a Jamie like speech from the last episode once the Maloofs are gone :D

Exactly, he's invested a lot of time and money into this effort. Sacramento won a huge battle, leaving Seattle in shambles, but at this point something COULD go wrong.

I feel a lot better than I did yesterday. I'm excited for the future of Sacramento and thrilled at the thought of a Kings team with funds to spend, but before I raise my glass to celebrate I want that last vote cast, handing the crown to Vivek and company.

A little food for thought, especially those going on and on about MSE "keeping" the team, and why we are discussing it no longer:

Tim Montemayor‏ @TheMontyShow 3h

Person with knowledge of the call today says the #Maloofs were a major topic of conversation …all agreed they need to be out of the #NBA

The evidence presented through the #NBAKings process proved to the owners that @KJ_MayorJohnson was genuine and honest, the #Maloofs ...

( #NBAKings )…came across as vindictive and angry …blaming and pointing fingers instead of looking for arena solutions and again owners

…were blown away by the ground @KJ_MayorJohnson covered in such a short time "with a maloof tying an arm behind his back"

The #NBA has full faith in confidence that @KJ_MayorJohnson and the new ownership group in #Sacramento can open an arena in 2016

I am told it was made clear H&B #Seattle group was "as strong a potential owner as anyone had ever seen…hoping to bring them in

f the proposed #NBAKings owner group delivers a deposit close of business Fri I am told this deal is "as good as done no other hurdles"

I asked specifically abt expansion in #Seattle to a person in management with an #NBA team …I was told talks have been had and …

…"no option is off the table our owners want basketball in the market ( #seattle ) …we have discussed expansion at length"

The fear is that H&B will sue to enforce the sales contract with the #Maloofs …again it was explained to me that wld be a deal breaker ...

…with owners and would likely mean the end of the H&B group in the #NBA …no matter their financial ability respect for the process and ...

…the greater good of the league and the health of the market have to "come before personal feelings and animosity"

#NBA owners wld value expansion team at $512 million dollars plus additional TV revenue and global marketing dollars cld be worth $700M+

Told specifically that the #NBA and it's partners will extend their deals in the next 12 months cld easily include a new franchise

#NBA Owners expect to break the BILLION dollar mark with their next TV deal…and there is also a new TV deal in Asia and digital deals coming

#Seattle represents a significant footprint in the Asian market for #NBA making it a worthwhile effort in merchandising alone!

I am not going to guess at percentages or likelihood's of expansion …I am telling you sources say expansion has been talked about at length

I do not pretend to understand David Stern …but when there is this much cash to be made he has never turned his back on it!

I am aware what #Stern said tonight I watched it …i am simply relaying what I was told …I am not a source I have sources telling me things

My sources have been 100% accurate nothing I have shared has been wrong I told @710ESPNSeattle weeks ago it was 90% the team stays in Sac.

I said it on my @knbr shows and told every interview I gave that there was no way #NBAKings were leaving …I am telling you now #NBA is ...

…exploring expansion in #Seattle and "working to remedy that situation w/ a short process to bring the game back to the market"

Don't think it will matter but interesting that Hansen/Ballmer have decided to go on the offensive and continue to push forward with their agreement. Kind of thought they were going to gracefully bow out. The next week will be interesting to watch.

Once the BOG votes no on the relocation they won't have a leg (or a deal) to stand on. Someone that has a big red VOID stamp should be hovering above the H/B - Maloof agreement with that stamp.

Don't be the glass half empty guy. We got it. While there is more work to be done by the future owners we have done all we can do.

Makes me kinda nervous.
I'm more curious than nervous. They either think they have votes not reflected in the recommendation or they are just going to try and force the issue legally. I just don't know that they have a legal leg to stand on or that it would force the league to scramble and suddenly change their votes. Odd.
