Fire Keith Smart

I would like Bob Mcadoo to be the next coach. Sure, I'm jaded as he was a Buffalo Brave, but his resume might actually be perfect for the Kings. He's been an assistant with the Heat for 18 years so understands about winning and working with ego's and big men. As a player, he had talent similar or exceeding Cousins, he averaged 30 points & 15 rebounds for a season as a center. Most importantly, he was a Brave, an environment very similar to the current Kings situation with relocation rumors and could help the players to mentally deal with the off the court issues.

I am tired of us signing people with little or no experience or are not wanted by any other team in the NBA. We are trying to hit it lucky and it's not working.

regarding Bobby J. We will never know if we don't give him a chance and the Kings are not about to open their wallets to an elite proven coach so why not take a chance on him? Don't forget People rarely start at the top in their career. Bobby you got my vote!

Look, BJax was great as our sixth man and all but trust me, he's not the right guy to be the captain of this sinking ship. Maybe someday he'll make a fine NBA coach but right now is not that time.

True^^. We need a proven coach. Enough with the experiments already. The only problem is the Maloofs are our owners and wouldn't pay for one. It's really ridiculous and unfair to the fans to have to deal with this garbage while the Maloofs try to complete their selfish agenda...such a disappointment, How can they even live like that as people? I would be way too embarrassed to let something like this continue. Have some pride for gods sakes!

I would feel horrible for Bobby Jackson if he were put in this position.

I still want him fired. I don't care the Kings won a couple games, the only reason his rotations tightened up were injuries. A lucky shot on a broken play after blowing a 27 point lead can't be designed and the Celtics missing shots doesn't mean we played good defense.

To be 100% honest, if the Kings were to go on a 20 game win streak, I will say they did it despite Smart and not because of his coaching.

Anyone else apalled by that little sequence near the end of the Detroit game, where our coach is yelling "NO FOUL NO FOUL", only to have Aaron Brooks grab the Detroit player, fouling him and sending him to the line?

Do you mean to tell me that the Kings, a professional NBA team, do not have a way to instruct the defense to foul or not foul at the end of the game, other than to yell "FOUL" or "NO FOUL"? Like, how hard is it to come up with something that cannot be confused or misheard over thousands of fans screaming at the end of a game? Even young AAU and Jr. High School teams have a way to do this.... come on!!

That would be the obvious pick but I don't think he wants any piece of this situation unless there's ownership change and major overhaul this summer. JVG really likes his current job and it might pay more than any Kings coach earned during last half decade.

Great minds on this! I was thinking the same thing. You have to be able to yell something discernable in a game, e.g. RED, GREEN, YELLOW. Whatever, but at least something that you can hear with no problem. That's just not smart (no pun intended). And what has driven me nuts a couple of times is when Smart is yelling to his player on the floor and the guy gets it stolen from him or some other stupid thing because he's trying to understand what Smart is saying to him.

Exactly. It just shows how poorly prepared they are for situations like this. There have also been numerous occasions where Smart has messed up the end of a quarter by fouling when they shouldn't have. i.e. The Kings are on defense and there is 31 seconds on the game clock and 24 on the shot clock and the Kings have a foul to give. I've seen him have his player take a foul with 12 seconds left which does nothing except take the shot clock off and give the other team the last possession. He also misplays 2 for 1 situations quite frequently. He's just not very "Smart!"

You can't blame Smart, he doesn't expect his coaching to be good enough for the team to be in close situations where such calls are necessary, and hence never prepared for such situations.

How quickly you forget. The Kings just won a bunch of games. They won two in a row on the road. The Grizzlies are a quality team that exposes the Kings weaknesses which appeared to be transition defense and rebounding last night. The Kings stand around as much as any team in the league on offense.

Look at all the players in the NBA that are doing well that used to be Kings- guys like JJ Hickson, G Wallace, C Landry. Look at the players drafted around the same time as T Robinson. Guys like Barnes, Lilliard, and Kidd-gilchrist are having sensational seasons as rookies. Jimmer is a career role player. Another lost opportunity.

Smart is not as dumb as most people think. He has a mishmash of players to work with and that Cousins fellow is tough to manage. The coach is always a convenient target. Who are going to get to replace him for the same money?

I don't think that Smart is dumb... as a matter of fact, he says all the right things, and most of what he says about game plans, etc., makes sense. Forget the after-the-game conferences - he's just spinning things and sounds delusional. But when he's not spinning things, he seems knowledgeable. And he has a decent staff too.

His problem, I think, is that he's weak. He wants to be everyone's friend. So he plays too many people, too many minutes. And does crazy rotations just to he can get people in. Almost like a rec or Jr. High coach, who's worried about when/how to get players some PT. And there's no consequences for bad actions or choices. For example: we're getting killed and what we need is quality shots and good defense if we are to have any chance to get back in the game. But no... 10 secs left on the shot clock and Brooks chucks up a 30-ft airball!?!? No problem, here comes IT to replace TYREKE!!! Really? I'm shocked he had the balls to sit Cousins for an extra game after the suspension.

Get tough, coach Smart. Tighten the rotations, work with Petrie to get rid of redundant players and hopefully fill some gaps. COACH TO WIN and to develop the young guys, not to make friends.

Great post and you are 100% correct. He needs to start figuring this out -- and fast. Look at the reward he got after he had the balls to suspend DMC. The team started playing together and DMC had an incredible 6 game stretch. This is because the respect level for Smart went up a lot after that. Soldiers will fight much harder when they respect their general but they will lay down their arms and quit when there is a lack of respect.
