I have no doubt that Dave will land on his feet. Sacramento has not seen the last of Carmichael Dave. Shame on CBS Radio and whomever else (code for Maloofs) who pulled strings or whatever to get him taken off the air. Kudos to Sam Amick for taking Howdy Doody to task for his ridiculous drivel.

NOTE: I left the Dave appreciation stuff in the original thread and created this Grant Disapproval thread. - VF21

I didn't know what VF21 meant by the Sam Amick stuff until I checked his twitter. Grant really has no shame.

Anyways, I had one run in with Dave once before, though I forget what it was about. His show was always entertaining and he pushed new sports and managed to get some big names to come on his show. I know people here hate Geronimo, but now he's about the only thing left on the station besides G-man who would say a critical word of the team.

The way this past year has been handled by KHTK and The Maloofs is embarrassing. It's small time, small town manipulation.

I don't have twitter. Could you give me a brief synopsis?

Sam Amick ‏ @sam_amick

I'm way late on this, but it must be said: KHTK (& by extension, the Maloofs) made an idiotic decision in firing @CarmichaelDave.

Sam Amick ‏ @sam_amick

Connect the dots here, Sacramento folks. Think about what he fought for (Kings to stay) & who is KHTK's most powerful partner (Kings).

Sam Amick ‏ @sam_amick

.@CarmichaelDave had been increasingly critical of the Maloofs in recent weeks. Their radio home is now without mirrors. All windows.

Sam Amick ‏ @sam_amick

RT @DGKAcid Odd that the most informative person on the kings relocation situation has been @CarmichaelDave & he is out now. #makesnosense

Sam Amick ‏ @sam_amick

Hey @grantnapearshow, it's called transparency & objectivity. Try it some time, especially when it's your protege. Team PR man attacks again

Steve ‏ @TerribleTaebo

@GrantNapearShow Youre criticizing @sam_amick for Yellow Journalism? Thats a like fat boy blasting a DoubleWhopper for being too fattening.

Chris Williams ‏ @cwill_05

@GrantNapearShow How do you blast @sam_amick for poor journalism? You don't even listen to your callers. You interrupt like a 2 year old!

Sam Amick ‏ @sam_amick

Maloof spokesman says they played no part in the firing. KHTK GM Steve Cottingim says it was made "exclusively on programming." That is all.
----------------------------------------------

I didn't hear Grant's show, but from what has been on Twitter, Howdy Doody was in full "Maloof defender" mode.

Grant Napear is a horrid journalist. He's not even a journalist. Just zero integrity.

If someone had the startup capital, they could start a sports radio station simply on the strength of a 3-4 hour daily show with Carmichael Dave. I wonder if there's a non-compete clause in his severance package. It may have been a pretty good one.

Seriously though, how hard would it be to compete in sports radio with a guy who is a jackass, total parrot for corrupt ownership (that everybody knows is corrupt), who's not even from here and roots for NY teams anyway... this is a serious market opportunity. Only thing preventing that probably is the uncertainty of the team staying or not. Even if they leave though, since CD is a local.... he'd scoop up the entire market if the Kings left by talking all local college and prep sports, Rivercats, and Bay area stuff. Shouldn't be all that hard. Any stations out there wanna reposition?

Good things will come to CD, I'm sure of it. These are the kinds of things that earn you respect and listeners. His public image will actually be boosted by this tremendously. Maybe he's going podcast anyway.

I think Grant, who has has two jobs with the malloofs (KHTK and tv broadcasting) is in full on C.Y.A. mode and I cannot say I blame him... look what happened to Carmichael Dave and he only had one malofs job. (You'll notice I will forever now be not-capitalizing or correctly spelling 'maaoof' until they sell the team as a sign of disrespect)

Grant is a tool of the magoofs, YES! Is that his paid job? Apparently, YES, because if you are not a tool of the mafools, you are out looking for a new job. This is Grant's job... let's just understand that, stop listening to a paid apologist/sycophant of the mafools, and move on. It is what it is... will Grant deny and defend? Of course. Is he lying? Absolutely... but that is what he needs to do to stay employed. Let me ask you this, would you do the same to keep your job/career (because his termination could be a career ender)?

it was funny, this morning don got pissed at all of the texters continuing to blame him or the magoofs for daves departure. he, along with grant, continue to say it came from above.

It has become clear that it wasnt about money, as Don has stated he is going to hire another sidekick in the coming weeks and Dave came out and said he would do radio for just a dollar a day.

This gives more merit to the idea that the magoofs were all over this. other than Don, Dave was the most vocal against the magoofs and since Don is the ratings cow at the station somebody had to go.

Grant is flushing his Sacramento radio career down the crapper (I'm fine with that, but it's not a logical move.) The Kings aren't staying here long term with the Maloofs. Grant has said that he wants to try to stay on Sacramento radio even if the Kings move. Grant has hitched his wagon firmly to the Maloofs and that's dumb.

If the Maloofs sell, Grant is so Maloof tainted that he will be replaced by the new owners when his contract up. When he's not the voice of the Kings, he can't carry a local radio show.

If the Maloofs move to Anaheim, Grant might get to tag along for a few years (might not). But at some point, he's probably gone. Grant's good at play by play, he not #2 media market good. At some point, the Maloof will fill that slot when a better broadcaster. When the Maloofs have to turn the team over the Ducks owner, he's gone.

When the teams moves, he's off KHTK fast. First, KHTK probably drops all sports when the Kings leave. Second, nobody wants to hear Grant doing national sports from Anaheim while working for the Royals.

He's trying really hard to keep both jobs. He's not talking about the Kings or the arena unless he has to until the lottery and trying to do a national show. Because he's complete mouth piece at this point for hated owners, he's dropping market share by the day. He will end up with no jobs.

Clearly he can't go after the Maloofs, but if he stayed objective but didn't attack them, he might land on the new Sacramento sports station post Kings. That's getting further and further off the table by the day. That job is now Dave's.

Well said. And as I've said before, Napear is a coward. Obviously, Dave is not.

Incorrect. The play by play is for MSE. The radio show is for CBS radio. Now the Kings are a major sponsor of the radio station so they do have some pull.

I think people still underestimate Grant as a sports guy. He does have national recognition and can get another job somewhere.

Irony: Grant Napear complaining about how bad Dick Stockton and Chris Webber were. Just me or yet ANOTHER dig at Webber?

This. He's one of the primary fill-ins for perhaps the most recognizable sports radio figure in the nation (Rome)
I agree and that is why he is trying to stay good with the mafools... if he goes out in a blaze of glory, he could be seen as a troublemaker and his career, not just in Sacramento, could be over.

You say incorrect, but consider this: Carmichael Dave = anti-mafools=fired from KHTK... KHTK is indirectly controlled by the maoofs and Carmichael Dave's termination is absolute, rock solid evidence of this... both of grant's jobs require mafool approval to continue. if he makes them mad, he loses both jobs.

Why is he taking these risks? I think he knows he is done should the team change hands either way and he is getting close to retirement age... a baby pig goes where the milk is right now... not where the milk might be later.

I just listened to Grant's rant (thanks stevetaebo for the link). How ironic that Napear ended his tirade with "What a joke. What a joke."

smh at Napear - where's the integrity?

NoBonus - love what you're doing with the spelling. May I recommend Mo Loaf? It's like Meatloaf, but without the rock or the diced onions.

I like meatloaf too much to associate it with the miloofs; and I mean the food... I could give or take the rocker, but I liked him in Rocky Horror.

No KHTK is not indirectly controlled by the Maloofs. They are a partner and sponsor with a contract. CBS Radio controls the station. If the team leaves or switches partners the station is still here w/o the Maloofs. But like I said that doesn't mean they don't have influence over who is on the radio, but ultimately it's CBS radios decision.

If Grant did switch gears and go after the Maloofs yes he would lose his play by play duties, but I bet his radio show ratings would go way up.

He has no national draw. He's a suck-up and he can probably network well, but he couldn't carry a national show. Filling in for a show like Rome, which will run itself for a day or two, is totally different than having a national show and making it work yourself. Trying to appease corporate brass won't overcome a total lack of ratings draw.

He has national name recognition. A reason another station would hire him.
