I'll type this again for you since you seemed to miss it when Mass said it, "Thats all well and good when your talking about big picture, but in a game thread like this ... I think it is made for overreaction." We are here in tonights game thread, talking about tonights game. We talk about the game being played, not the entire season or last years season. I think most people would agree Westphal's lineups/rotations tonight were bad. You don't agree?
Not so, Demarcus got all he needed in those 5 minutes to start the game. 
Sit guys for 30 minutes real time and expect them to come back out like a well oiled machine wow. Somebody get Westphal a copy of NBA 2k11 next game, lock him in a room, and tell him he's coaching via satellite. He'll kill at that game, and maybe the Kings can get some chemistry going with the starting unit at least.

Blazers just have a solid squad. They play really good defense with Felton, Wallace, Matthews, and Camby being really active. Our guys just look tired in the 2nd half, tough building to play in too. Anyone expecting a win tonight should get a reality check, not many teams will go to Portland and get wins this season.
We had that guy - his name was Beno (but even he wouldn;t have been able to stop the defensive buzzsaw that was the Blazers tonight).
It only took until Game 2 of the season to show why it was a premature and risky idea to trade away Beno for Salmons.
It's going to take awhile (at least half a season) to fill that whole.
The Kings needed a steady hand out there, who could handle the pressure, stop the bleeding with needed scoring and make FT's - exactly the things Beno provided for the Kings for years.
This is exactly the kind of game where Beno stepped up and provided scoring in previous years - haters go ahead and hate...

The SF position is still killing us.
Metta Whirl Peas killed us and almost took the game over last night, salmons did not play good d on kobe either.
Tonight Wallace got five fouls on salmons without even trying.
Our SF issue still exists, salmons was 5-14 last night and tonight's two points don't do ANYTHING against Wallace's 25.
If we're not going to play garcia, why didn't we amnesty him (insurance?)
If we are going to look this bad (STILL) at the damn SF then bring in AK, I don't care if some of you think he is a PF, anything looks better than salmons/outlaw right about now.
Or.... why the hell didn't we let honeycutt play, I bet you he would have played some solid d against wallace/batum (better idea than jimmer)

Welcome back to reality folks. A lot set the bar too high after the win against L.A.
I can only hope that this sort of game was a way of Westphal to assess the real capability of his players. And that would be:
1.) Salmons can't guard big SFs like Crash. Donte's length could have given Wallace some problems if he played the kid.
2.) IT-Jimmer backcourt could only cruise against old player like Fish. Felton and Matthews would eat them alive.
3.) When your clearly outrebounding the Blazers in the first half. Westy should tell his guards to let it fly only when bigs are down low and should stop his big shooting 20 footers.
4.) And finally, time to give Donte and Garcia some minutes. Or better trade them for a big and a vet PG.

Okay, we got blasted tonight and it's going to happen again. And yes, I am making excuses for the team, but tonight Portland's confidence and experience was too much to overcome. Yes a different coach might have settled with a shorter rotation but, I’d like to think that Westphal even looking down the road when we will be playing five games in six nights, would still have played the starters longer if they had continued to play like they did during the first 20 min. And now maybe our GM will now accept our so far two game glaring defensive weakness at the three and go after someone like AK-47. It's easy for me to say go after AK but unless I'm mistaken he earned $17 million last season and it just might take a $20 million contract to budge him out of Russia. No doubt he would give us a major boost but is he really worth 20 mill?
Beno?? Beno Udrih?? Beno was so so, but not who I would call him any sort of leader. If we had Ron...errr...Metta World Peace, I think he could fill that role. He was a mentor to a few of our young.guys when he was here, and I think with a guy like him paired up with Hayes could only be a good thing for our team.
I agree, after the Lakers game I really feel like some guys here forgot that we aren't a contender. Nor are we a certainty when it comes to a playoff spot. No we won't win at Portland, the only teams in the West where we have a good chance of winning from are probably Minnesota, Phoenix, Utah and Golden State. If we play really well though.
And when exactly does the losing stop?!
There is a problem here where people are expecting to just suck. At one point or another, that mindset needs to change and expectations from both fans and the front office need to be raised. If that is not done, then we are forever doomed for mediocrity and there will never be any accountability.
Fact is for years we have been sold that this is the year. This is when we make a splash on signings and make that push into the play-offs. Well the time has come.
On the game itself, people need to realise that Westphal does not have a system. Never has and never will. He has depth and he has multiple scoring options on this team. There is at least 4 or 5 guys that are capable of scoring 20-30 points on any given night yet he cannot utilize that fire power into an offensive system. This year its take your turn and everyone is equal in terms of shots and opportunities. That will NEVER get it done. There are clearly 3 players on this team who the offence should be build around and the rest fill in the gaps. The 3 that I am referring to in Cousins, Reke and Thornton actually complement each other pretty well offensively, especially when Tyreke is now days conscious of involving others.
There is NO way someone of Tyreke's offensive talents should have games where he only takes 8 shots in a game. There is no way that you don't have the set plays where you get the ball to Cousins on the low block to get him a high percentage shot. He is settling for long jumpers precisely because he does not get the ball where for him its a high percentage shot. Its the same story we have had for 2 years now. People blamed in on Tyreke and his dribble drive offence but it is clear that Westphal does not get the genuine offence built around these players but its taking turns on offence.
Lets get one thing straight here, give this roster to someone like Greg Popovich, Rick Adelman, Phil Jackson, Pat Riley or any other half decent coach and they would get offensive production from this team. Give it to someone like Westphal who gets lost when he has many options like kid in a toy shop and you get what we had last 2 years and what we will gave this year.
This is not a talent issue, this is clearly a coaching issue.
