he is coming off the bench guys. got to have somebody that can shoot from there also. I mean damn we get shooting depth and yall complain about it. he isn't gonna take time from Tyreke, Thorton, or Cousins which is our core so whats the problem. sure it may take Jimmers min some but what has Jimmer proven?

But...Jimmer isn't just a throw in project that we drafted after his freshman/sophomore year...and I know the NBA is the highest level of bball...but he was a 4 year starter who lit it up at will, and is already showing in training camp that he's no average rookie. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE depth, but Crawford NEEDS 20 minutes+ to be effective...where are those minutes/shots going to come from with already having Reke/Marcus/Jimmer...not to mention Salmons. Is this just the calm before some sort of trading storm from Petrie??

where does that come from? he needs 20 min to be effective? Just because thats what he has gotten in his career doesn't mean he needs that to be effective. yeah he may need that to get 15pts a game. but you have watched basketball long enough that min just don't work out like that. I mean he comes in goes on a run he may get 10 pts in 12 min one night he may get 4 pts in 15 min one night. same with all nba players. there isn't a set time limit vs how many points or shots you get. The fact that he would even come here means he already understands his role on the team. He isn't stupid he sees the writing on the the wall. A scorer off the bench that will fill in with any injuries that may occur and they will and have. I mean if reke or marcus go down right now Jimmer starts i guess right? so who rotates? would you rather it be Garcia, Greene, or Crawford? Out of those 3 guys only one has proved he can step up and be consistant. you know who it is. Depth + Insurance = no brainer to me.

I find the pursuit of JC puzzling as well, but where did you get the impression Jimmer is anything but an average rookie?

Or phrased differently, if Jimmer can't beat JC out for minutes; doesn't that justify adding bench depth.

If it's a 1-2 year deal; I expect Petrie is just collecting tradable assets. It's not an acquisition I would make, but it makes sense in that Salmons way.

Sad thing is, he might be the only FA willing to come to Sac. That makes him better then nothing in my book. It's comical to me the way people get on here and act like they are playing 2K12. "If I were the GM, I would amnesty Salmons, re-sign Dalembert, sign AK47, then trade Hickson and Donte for Affialo."

Get real guys.

You realize he would be coming in as the 3rd highest paid player behind Salmons and Thornton? No way he's not getting minutes. The Maloofs dont want to spend FA money on player who's not going to play.

And I thought I was the only media consultant:) RT @jwquick: Been chatting with @JCrossover; he's still mulling decision b/w PDX and Sacto -- sam_amick (@sam_amick)

I guess its "The Decision", Crawford-style. :D

your right my bad i didn't think about money. yeah he makes more than tyreke so surely he will be stating pg then thorton then salmons. I am not sure about all the big men. I think Hickson and Hayes are making more than cousins so cousins will surely be on the bench. Really? is the amount of money your argument over playing time? Garcia makes more than all of them except for salmons so he will get 48 min a game i guess?? I don't recall saying he wouldn't get min. he is a guard do you honestly think Tyreke and Thorton will be be getting 15 min a game or something? hell if he beats them out so be it. I don't care. but if i had to pick a team and they said ok you can have 2 guys at this position or have the same 2 guys + another pretty good player. I would go with choice B.

we already know Tyreke will see time at SF in a 3 guard lineup. I'd say probably at least 10 min a game there. so you got 106 min to play with and 4 players to divide them up. if all things are equal thats almost 27 min a game. shave jimmer down to 15-20 and crawford down to 15-20 you got tyreke and thorton getting 30-37 min a game which is about what they got last year. and who is to say Jimmer and crawford will get that many. its a game by game basis. some nights maybe 10 min some nights maybe 18 Tyreke may be off and only get 29 min same with thorton. we play a million back to backs and will average 4 games a week. Depth is very important this year and crawford will be a 1 year contract. I mean its not hard to figure out whats going on. i will say again Insurance + depth. because you divide that time by 3 players then you got some tired *** guys with all the back to backs. same with our 4 guys in the front court. 4 in the back 4 in the front and some different variations going on at SF.

Your missing the point. They are going out and buying new player that is costing them 3rd highest pay on the team. This would be one of their 2 big FA acquisitions. This isnt a rookie contract that players are locked into getting paid. That player will be getting minutes. They aren't going out there to spend money on their 3rd highest player to get non rotation minutes. They will be getting 30+ min a game.

And Garcia makes less than Thornton now.

Not sure why so many people are worried about this effecting the AK deal. They have the cap space to sign both. if they amnesty Garcia, they can sign both and still come in well under the cap.

They're not acting broke this year though. Not so far. They may be liars and I'll never like them again after last spring but I do honestly believe that they want to win.
Let's not get carried away. They're still under the league minimum. My prediction is that we come in within 5m of the minimum, but I could be wrong. I can't wait until this team has a building and new owners.

At first i was puzzled by this pursuit, but now im warming up to it. Pretty much this is front office saying that we can compete for the playoffs NOW. I want Jimmer to get as many minutes as possible, but signing Crawford gives us what we want from Jimmer eventually right now. Jimmer can ease into the NBA instead of being asked to be the 6th man that lights up the scoreboard. By signing Crawford we have 3 seasoned vets who know how to win in Hayes, Crawford, Salmons along with our big 3 of young guys in Tyreke, Cousins, and Thornton. We still have the versatility to play a good defensive team in:
pg: Tyreke
sg: Salmons
sf: Garcia/Donte
pf:Cousins/JT
C: Hayes

or we could go all out gunner offense
pg:Jimmer
sg:Crawford
sf:Tyreke
pf: Donte
C: Cousins

Defensively i would be a bit worried, but if the guys can swallow their "get mine" attituded and play as a team, we would be one of the most potent offenses in the league, home court could be big this year because we can just pour on the points and run the lesser teams out of the building. I think one of the keys of young guys improving defensively is tasting that playoff atmosphere. Teams slow it down in the playoffs and defense is intensified. If this team can sneak into the playoffs this year, it will be BIG for us down the line. The only issue i have with this is the possibility of amnestying Garcia, I know the guy is injury prone, but by all accounts he is the leader of the locker room and a king for life type of guy.

I watched the Hawks quite a lot last time out he basically comes on and puts up shot after shot after shot; he practically gets 'starters' minutes off the bench.

not saying he will get that here (but he might be expecting it?!) but I can't imagine his game will change.

he really would swallow a lot of minutes i'd rather see given to other people.

Consider this, to those who say that somwhow Crawford will for the first time since he was a pup not only average less than 30min a game, but actually less than 20min a game, thus allowing Westphal to play some more stupid 3min for you, 5min for you scrambled lineups and have Jimmer able to touch the floor for a couple of minutes here and there. Crawford played 30.2 min last year. So let's just split that in half. Here is what sub-20min a night Jamal Crawford looks like:

15.1min 7.1pts (.421FG .321 .854FT) 0.9reb 1.6ast 0.4stl 0.1blk 1.0TO

Now exactly how much money and disrutption is that player worth? If he comes, he's coming as a major minute guy.

I just get the anger in trying to bring in a good quality player that can bring a spark off bench. It's not like wearer trading somebody for him it one year. Low risk in that and possible high reward. This negativity is lunacy at best

I'm still beyond confused about this pursuit. Its the least of what we need...another tweener guard that needs shots. What gives Geoff??
Petrie is just acquiring an asset so he can deal him later. Maybe at the trade deadline? I don't think it is any remotely way connected to how he fits on this team as it is now constituted. It's simply seeing a bag of cereal at the grocery store that is on sale, buying it in the summer, and hoping you can resell at a higher price during the winter.

I think part of it is just recognition that we already have a bunch of shooters, some sitting on the bench already. I would rather see the $$$ being offered to Jamal used to up the ante, if necessary, for AK or SD. I view them as much more important to have than another no-defense gunner riding the pine for most of the game. Many view Jamal more as a volume shooter instead of a "good quality player"....

I agree but I haven't seen any movement from ak camp just wishes. Crawford is insurance instead if trusting a rookie to get major min

That's my thinking.

That would require showcasing him though. An asset you pay for, but do not play (due to stacked roster at the g/f positions) a lot loses value.

Just as we expected.

Hopefully AK hates Deron Williams more than he likes Prokh and Dalembert is willing to swallow his pride and come back for less.
