I am not sure of the validity of the report, but it wouldn't surprise me for this reason.
Comcast doesn't serve Orange County. Only Cox Cable, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse along with the Satellite services so Comcast would lose a large part of their sports programming. I think Comcast sees the future, and the future seems to be combining sports and media creators with distribution networks into massive conglomerates. They are already on their way with their purchase of NBC-Universal, and what better way to keep and enhance power and prestige then to create a massive presence in the town that makes all the legal rules for California. hmmmmm
