could this whole ordeal be a blessing in disguise?

So you think B, but say and continually back A? Makes perfect sense.
I don't have to read your mind, you make it clear as day as to what you think in your posts :D
I added this but it must have been after you replied.
One other thing you seem to be ignoring. I said I hoped for something like this and saw it as a possibility, not that I actually thought it would happen. Nowhere did I say "yeah I knew this would happen" or something like that.

and you also said you had thought that the scare could possibly lead to something, which would indicate you thought that the Maloof's were pulling a scare tactic.
It indicates no such thing. It wouldn't have to be deliberate for their to be a scare. At any rate, there's no conflict with me thinking the Maloofs may have been pulling a scare tactic anyhow. When people don't have enough facts and are left to speculate, it's perfectly reasonable to have several different ideas/theories about what may be going on. You're acting as if folks must adopt one theory only and stick with it for the rest of time.

Maybe, maybe not. Given what many have said about the Maloofs lately, how could they ever seriously come back and root for the team? You can't come on here, or other forums/Bee, and practically say the Maloofs are doing the devils work, and they're horrible human beings, and then come running back if they happen to stay. Well you could, but you'd be a hypocritical shmuck.
I don't give two ****s about the Madicks. I do give 2 ****s about the kings, and Sacramento though. Call me a hypocrite if you must, but if it did happen and they stayed here I would be laughing all the way to the new arena sitting in my permanent seats once getting there.

Some folks are acting like there's a conflict between loathing the owners still liking the team. Pretty silly assertion really.

Even if this alternative plan is real and the Maloofs accept it(which reports so far say they think the proposal is laughable), then the Maloofs still have to repair the bad karma they already had before this season and repair trust for looking like they were ready to ditch town. One issue with attendance is the product on the floor, and the other issue with attendance is trusting the NBA and trusting the organization again.

I really think this will be a complete non-problem. If the Kings are signed to a long term commitment in Sac, the arena will likely fill up commensurate with the quality of the product.

Don't forget, the team is currently among the very worst in the NBA... not average, not pretty good... but very bad. Yes I know... nice young core but no W's.

But I bet the Maloofs could parlay some "Kings are staying" euphoria into another sellout string if the team could approach respectability from a W/L perspective.

I doubt the fan base is so poisoned that they would boycot the team out of spite... not enough to matter anyway.

I respectfully disagree. They explored/are exploring an option that could feasibly be more lucrative for themselves and their business. This has been a long time coming, it's not like we were blindsided by this. I don’t think they should apologize for looking to greener pastures; any good business owner would do the same. What they should apologize for are the horrendous head coaches they have been hiring the last couple of years... and the crappy food at Arco.

That's pretty much the going rate...especially if you torture yourself reading the Bee and some of the readers comments below the articles...they all usually start off with: 'I've always loved the Kings, but the greedy Magoofs can build it themselves!'.

Yeah, who knows what to believe. I will say this, if Crandell is pulling some kind of stunt, I suggest he move far, far away from Sacramento. He's been tweeting responses all day, standing by his story though.
He's just doing the usual CYA dance, saying stuff like "it's hard for the media to know, and it is still a long shot, but they're not completely gone yet". He may as well be babbling Norwegian... he is sharing no info... not some, not a little, but nothing. And so if 'nothing' comes through it will be impossible to prove that he made it up (or at least blew some whispers WAY out of proportion) in order to draw attention to him and his station.

Then why doesn't every NBA team leave every small market and put themselves in the largest TV markets 1-15 with multiple teams in multiple areas?

Answer; because rural America markets are just as important to ratings, and advertising. When I lived in Reno/Carson City we had the Kings shoved down our throats there too. It was in the late 90s and all the games that played on CW31 were played on the Reno Affiliate, as well as the Chico affiliate, Yuba City, Marysville, Redding, ect ect... They are not technically in our market but they were still force fed the Kings brand of basketball. It's much more than just being in a large centralized population.

The Lakers have a TON of support in Norcal that even rivals that of Kings, and Warriors fans. How do you think the Kings would fare in Socal w/o the Norcal support? They would only be about a 1/10, if not less, of what the Lakers are, and the advertisers will have a field day with the Maloofs if they try to compare the Lakers or even the Clippers TV deals.

Maloofs are in a great market up here which reaches into more Rural areas than the Lakers, and even goes into Nevada.. If they lose our support they will get killed in Socal. They never even had to try to get into a diluted market when they have the whole of Norcal, and Western Nevada all to themselves. Not to mention the support for the Kings in Las Vegas.

In LA they will be "just another crappy team" where the fans wont show up and the TV deals will be probably less than what they could get in this market since every other LA team is much much better. Not to mention you are trying to force another team into LA when the fair weather fans are all jumping on the Blake Griffin hype.

So you have the Lakers competing for a championship which is a negative to any other LA team, and you have Blake Griffin lighting up the dunk reels which is another negative. The Kings will not succeed in LA..

What I see happening is the Maloofs try it out for 2-4 years and with the Lakers, and Clippers hogging 90% of the fans in LA the Kings average a leagues worst in attendance, and the Maloofs sell the team. The Kings being tired of playing in a hockey arena which was not really meant for basketball (frozen floor issues when hockey is not being played) will move the team to Seattle, or Louisville.

Because, not every small market franchise is faced with a decrepit, outdated arena. If they cannot get an arena built here, where are they supposed to play in a couple years? So not only are you looking at going to a bigger market with potentially more options, but also one with a nice arena waiting for you. Who knows if they can succeed down there, but without an arena being built here, it's really a no-brainer to at least explore the option of relocating there.

It would take a coupe years for the arena to be built. Really think PBP is going to fall down in that time? It's a great place to catch a game, but the only thing that's holding it back is the lack of boxes, and places to advertise. That = $$ and the new arena will squelch that problem.

I still can't see 3 teams working in Socal. It's a 5th fiddle down there and would be 7th if they got their 2 NFL teams. 90% of LA basketball fans are Laker fans. The Kings wont succeed down there.. They may have 7 million or whatever in the media market, but take all of Norcal, and west Nevada and that would produce more Kings fans than they could muster in Socal. I am 100% positive on that.

That tells us the source found it laughable but it doesn't say the Maloofs did.
Not to backtrack here...but Marc Spears doesn't say that the proposal is laughable, he says the Sac TV report is. The "source close to the Kings" may not even have a clue what the plan is. The source may not even be all that close to the Kings. Who knows.
