Breaking News: Mayor says Kings more likely to move

I can’t even read the article…This just makes me sick. Seattle had 3 teams and it not only affected their economy it affected their fans. We have 1 pro team and it’s going to kill Sacramento and us (the fans).

The Cal Expo deal should have passed. It was the perfect location and it would have helped both downtown/mid-town and businesses nearby.

I hope, I pray that Kings don’t leave. Not only do we need this team, but they need us!

And honestly, who is Kevin Johnson fooling? How in the world are we going to get another team anytime soon? Is that a joke? If the Kings leave, the Maloofs have been trying to get an arena for 10 years and they finally got the NBA to get involved. Do you think any other owner is going to want to come here when they see how hard the previous own had to fight for this and they still didn’t reach anything. Just imagine if they want something else?

On top of everything, I blame our media. From day one they branded this as the Maloofs and Kings arena. They always pointed out the negatives and never gave the arena or what it could do for Sacramento any chance…create jobs, bring more life and energy into the capital, help businesses...none.

Now people are realizing the situation and it could be too late.

I really hope that some miracle happens and the Kings stay in Sacramento!

The Maloofs didn't try for 10 years. They only tried up until the Q & R measure in 2006, but pulled their support for that before election day and basically screwed it up with a terribly timed Carl's Jr advertisement that declared them as billionaires, etc when they're asking the public for money.

The Maloofs shouldn't get credit for the time they stayed when the NBA got involved. The NBA kept them here during that time--not the Maloofs. But, when the NBA got involved, it tried to pass a well intentioned, but horrible concept with CalExpo that involved 3 self interested parties and I believe a foreign bank as well. It had no chance. And that was the NBA's plan. I wouldn't say the NBA's hands are clean here either because anyone reasonable could have seen that plan as too impossible to even attempt.

Now Sac's got a mayor that is a mover/shaker unlike any predecessor and he wants to get things done, yet the NBA is saying "Look, we gave it all we had" when in fact their effort was totally useless and wasted and also as if over the last couple years with this mayor is the exact same as prior politics here.

Just to be fair, the NBA went to the city and asked them what sort of involvement they wanted to have. They tossed up the usual bunch of words that amount to nothing. So in a sense they asked the NBA to do it via private funding. A condition that doomed it.

As for them not paying their bills.... that's the bad business decisions they have made. I never said they were filthy rich, I said they made a ton of cash off this team and Sacramento. How they spent it was the key...... and as you can see it was not in the right places.

Charlie sheen has made a ton of money too... but he has also spent it as fast as it comes in. You think there might be some connection? Charlie does love vegas!

You have nothing in common with a journalist. You're a random poster, with about 200 posts on a forum, which you've accumilated over the past 7 years. So how about sharing your evidence, your credentials as a journalist, or STFU.

Without credentials or evidence, I'll treat you as what you represent, which is some kid who likes gettting a reaction out of people, and spews a bunch of s*** from his keyboard, without the ability to confirm any of it.

As someone who has written articles on the Kings for other websites, and actually has had articles published by the LA Times on the NBA in the last 6 months(which I could prove, but keep seperate from my identity on KF's), don't give me this bull**** about journalists and not revealing sources. Forums like this aren't intended to be outlets exclusively for hard data backed up by infallible sources. By the way some folks act, you'd think this was a scientific journal or something where all articles must pass through a peer review process before being approved. People need to chill and take everything they read here with a grain of salt and not like it's disinformation being forced down their throats.

It's the "expecting people to accept it" that I don't agree with. I don't read it as if anyone is expecting me to accept it or not. I just process what they said a decide what i think of it based on my own intuition. If I'm curious I may ask for a source but it wouldn't be because i thought they were expecting me to believe anything and if they said no, I'd just be like ok, whatever then.

they didn't want anyone seeing that they could in fact have built the arena all on their own over the years of continued sellouts. Again I'm not making this crap up lol

And even if that the case and they could have built the arena themselves, I pose a question why the hell should they?!

This is the problem with the thought process of some in Sacramento. Its a top 30 media market, yet it is the only major league town that has not built an arena. Arco was privatly funded and its one of the reasons that it can't be renovated or remodelled. Its the responsibility of the city to build a sports and entertainment complex, not of the owners. The owners by all mean can do it, but why should they?!

Lets look at all the arenas around USA and tell me how many of them were built entirely by the owners of the team?!
