2009-10 Kings draft position thread

Four out of five games tonight feature one or more competitive lottery teams: Sac @Indiana, OKC @Philly, LAC @Milwaukee, and Washington @Houston.

You know who to root for.

Well, no upsets tonight, the linningest teams did what they do best. The Kings deserve credit for bumping Indiana into 10th place, I don't think the Pacers are going to have a competitive finish.

1. NJN 10-64 .135
2. MIN 14-60 .189
3-4. WAS/GSW 21-52 .288
5. DET 23-50 .315
6. SAC 24-51 .320
7. PHI 26-48 .351
8. NYK 26-47 .356
9. LAC 27-47 .365
10. IND 28-47 .373

Tomorrow looks very scary. Not only do we play Minny, but:
LAC @TOR
PHI @CHA
PHO @NJN
WAS @NO
NYK @PTL
GSW @UT
MIA @DET

That's potential lins for every team in the top 9 except for GSW. The only one of those teams that's bucking the odds for a lin is us.

I just want to make sure we secure no worse than the 6th slot. The Bobs have been playing very well; they should take care of Philly. Hard for me to see how Detroit wins though...

I'm so relieved we lost today's game against Indiana.
I know that we still have the game against the Clippers, but we started on the right foot by losing today's game.
We can win a game or two now, as long as we lose to the Clippers we should be able to keep sole possession of the 6th spot.

Obviously it would be great to get the 5th spot, but at this point I just hope to not lose the 6th spot.

Hypothetically, if it came down to a choice of a chance at a top 5 pick, or a win against LA, I'm voting for a loss without hesitating.

This draft will be our last chance to draft a potential star for a long time, no point in screwing it up now.

I'm sorry sir, but a win against the Lakers is NEVER meaningless
the win can mean we drop not one spot but many. that meanss, we get less ping pong balls and better chance at the 1 2 and 3rd pick in the draft. the meaningless win could mean the player we target is not there due to lower positioning. go lakers :)

If it means moving up in the lotto, I'll be hoping for a loss as well. A better pick just means we'll beat the Lakers more in the future.

I want it to be a game though. No blowout nonsense.

I like today.

We lin over frightening Minny, Washington amazingly beats NO on the road, and the Lakers lose their second in a row. GSW and NYK are playing games right now, but I'll still be content if they both lin.*

Standings as of this moment:
1. NJN 10-65 .133
2. MIN 15-60 .200
3. GSW 21-52 .288
4. WAS 22-52 .297
5. DET 23-51 .311
6. SAC 24-52 .316
7. PHI 26-49 .347
8. NYK 26-47 .356
9. LAC 27-48 .360
10. IND 28-47 .373

*Edit: which is a good thing, since both NYK and GSW are down 27 at halftime.

Kings are secure in having no more than the 6th slot. And with 52 in the loss column, are competitive against Detroit and Washington. I think they have an excellent shot at the 5th slot.

Got to hand it to Detroit, those bastards know how to lin.

Drives me crazy too. They're terrible at rebuilding. Still have a bunch of veteran talent that should be better, they traded their best player for a sneaky salary dump (Billups for Iverson) but already blew their cap space on middling players (Gordon and Villanueva), and it's not like they've been particularly smart about drafting (Darko).

Then again, maybe that is a team we'd want to be picking behind after all.

Detroits remaining games

No way they give up the 5th worst spot to us with this schedule. :(
Detroits remaining games:
Fri 02 vs Phoenix
Sat 03 @ Atlanta
Tue 06 @ Philadelphi
Wed 07 vs Atlanta
Fri 09 @ Miami
Sat 10 @ Charlotte
Mon 12 vs Toronto
Wed 14 @ Minnesota

One plus is that Phili will get a win.

Here is Sacs schedule:

Sat 03 vs Portland
Tue 06 vs San Antonio
Thu 08 vs LA Clippers
Sat 10 vs Dallas
Mon 12 vs Houston
Tue 13 @ LA Lakers

Ideally, I PRAY TO GOD that we get the 2nd Overall pick and take Evan Turner!
Honestly think that a back court of:

Tyreke Evans
Evan Turner
Donte Greene

Has the potential (and I'm VERY confident) to be the HARDEST backcourt to play against both on offense and on defense.

Casspi, Udrih and Garcia is also a very strong bench to have, but most likely one will be traded to upgrade the front court.

The front court will still be weak:

Thompson / Landry
Hawes

But I still drool at the possibility of that back court :p

If that does happen, I would dangle a package of:

Thompson + Landry + (one of Garcia, Udrih or Casspi) to see what is out there for our frontcourt.

EVAN TURNER PLEASE!!!!!

Bottom-dweller games remaining:

GSW (21 wins) - Knicks, @Washington, @Minnesota, @Clippers

Washington (22) - New Jersey, GSW, @Knicks, Indiana

Detroit (23) - @Philly, @Minnesota

Sac (24) - Clippers

Philly (26) - Detroit

Knicks (26) - @GSW, @Clippers, @Indiana, Washington

Another interesting note - Don Nelson needs 3 more wins to get the coaching win record. With their schedule, I think they could pull it off.
