GSW Rejected OJ Mayo and Thabeet for Ellis

Warriors Nearly Traded Ellis to Memphis

OAKLAND, Calif. -- According to separate league sources, the Warriors rejected a proposed deal with Memphis that would have sent Monta Ellis to the Grizzlies for O.J. Mayo and 7-foot-3 rookie center Hasheem Thabeet.

Another player, Hamed Haddadi, may or may not have been included in the deal.
GP better have offered Martin, Beno, KT or some kind of combo for that package and a report better come out saying so. Unless Grizz were in love with Ellis, something with Martin should've gotten this trade done.

Are the warriors ******* stupid? Memphis must have been asking for more... 2 1st round picks? Steph Curry? If not its hard for me to believe they rejected that deal.

They were offering that much for Ellis?...
How did we not pull something off for those too? Damn.
Right there with you man. If that part about asking for Monta straight up was true, it kind of drives me nuts that we couldn't offer a package of K-Mart and filler (for whatever aid they wanted, whether it be talent or cap-related).

Memphis is a team you would hope we were in contact with regardless of this package, but I didn't know Mayo was on the table. There'd been rumors about Thabeet before, and we obviously want him.

Mayo though, talentwise, would be a damn good complement to Reke. Athletic, is absolutely a playmaker and can play the point, shoots decently from 3, and can legitimately guard most 2s and 1s thanks to his athleticism. And this year, he's dialed back his tendency to chuck shots considerably and, though he's a little streaky shot wise, he's been a great all around player all season (read: love him on my fantasy squad).

Long story short, I hope this package is still available come summer, because I'd still like to make a run at it. 2 pieces that would fit beautifully. Well, there's nothing beautiful about Thabeet, but, you know...

I'm not sure I can buy this report. There had to be other elements involved, because an Ellis for Mayo/Thabeet is a complete no-brainer for Golden State. Perhaps Memphis wanted their 2010 & 2012 1st round picks or something of that nature as well.

The term "no brains" seems to get thrown around a lot in regards to Golden State. ;)

I was definitely going to start this thread earlier yesterday when the report first broke but I thought it was too ridiculous to be true, so I waited.

There has to be more to the story. There is no way Golden State is that stupid. Or, a different take would be: there is no way WE are that stupid.

If Memphis was willing to package Mayo and Thabeet for something like Ellis, you have to believe that a martin centered package would have got the job done as well. I really hope something leaks about Memphis wanting a couple first rounds. I have been one of the proponents of the Landry + capspace for Martin trade, but if Mayo and Thabeet were on the table, for the value (Ellis) implied by this rumor, it's going to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I wouldn't say Mayo and Thabeet for Ellis is a "no brainer." Ellis is averaging 26, 5, and 4 this year and was almost an All Star. The trade would really depend on Thabeet's development. If he ended up a bust, which many say will be the case, then Memphis wins this trade.

Ellis >>>> Martin

Martin isn't anywhere close to Ellis in terms of trade value. You are way overvaluing Martin's value. Why would Memphis trade Mayo and Thabeet for Kevin Martin? Ellis is a different kind of player -- more of a high scoring PG. Kevin Martin can't handle the ball. There is no way Memphis would have traded Mayo and Thabeet for a KMart package.

I completely disagree. I'm 5'9 and I could put up 20 points a game in nelly ball where I'm jacking up however many shots I want. Ellis was their ONLY option prior to Curry stepping up. When Martin was OUR only option his stats looked pretty damn good too. Everything needs to be taken into consideration. Stats can be deceiving.

You know, I feel bad for Golden State fans. I mean, I would very much like to be a fan of that team, maybe even my 'second' team (the whole Northern California connection), but with that coach, and that terrible brand of basketball, I just can't like them. They play gimmick ball. As far as this trade is concerned, they should absolutely have done the deal. Mayo has the potential to be better than Ellis, who's a chucker, throw in a rookie 7'3" defensive center and it's just an easy 'yes'.
