Official: Kings waive Kenny Thomas

There comes a time in every young GMs life that he needs to give up on that "movable piece" after 4 years of trying.

K9 seemed like a good guy.... he'll be missed... sort of.

No he ****ing wont.. I'll give it to him for acting like a pro this season (while getting paid 8 million), but lets get real here, he has been a huge road block to this franchise for the past several years. So long and don't let the door hit you on the way out!

This is really disappointing to me. With all of the teams looking to shed money, we couldn't find one team willing to send an attractive package for one of the largest expiring deals in the league. Again, like the KMart move, this to me sounds like an unwillingness to pay for talent.

He is a moveable piece - strike that.

He is a big trade chip at the deadline - strike that.

He's part of the reason the Webber trade cost us even more money that the Webber contract and he - in hindsight - he should have been bought out two years ago.

Had he been bought out two years ago we wouldn't even have been in a position to talk to Houston about the McGrady deal. We ended up not trading him but having him ignited the talks that got us Carl Landry, cleared a great deal of the logjam at the 2-3 positions, and gave us a buttload of capspace at the end of the season. This trade deadline has treated the Kings well. I don't see why people are complaining so much.

People are complaining for 2 reasons:

1. They think we could have received more for Kmart.
2. They think we didn't address some of the major needs of the team (interior d, elimination of Noc/Beno, addition of draft picks, etc.)

I'm not in the this totally sucked camp but I'm disappointed. Really, we just added another undersized 4 that doesn't rebound or defend particularly well. I really like Landry, but I don't think this really does much to change the Kings.

I think you may have something there. The Maloofs will be keeping a minimum payroll until the economy improves (years off) and they get a new arena (again years off if ever). Cap space does not mean cash flow in. If there making less than < $500,000 a game, that's only $20 million in tickets and concessions, where is the other $30 going to come from?

Agreed. These were my two main reasons for not being very happy with the trade. Also i feel like we had an opportunity to get a player better than landry. If we got Landry and another pick/prospect i would be all for this trade. My biggest concern with "capspace" is it does not mean we will go sign a big time guy let alone anyone. We are too small of a market with owners trying to cut costs...not a recipe for a splashy summer.

Yeah, I feel like we could have had a Landry type player with Kenny's deal and saved Martin for a bigger deal at a later date.

Bye Kenny. I hope you had a good financial advisor over the past few years because I'm pretty sure you won't make $8 million per year again anytime soon.

I wonder if there's anywhere KT can sign to play some consistent minutes.

heh... He will sign somewhere but probably be the guy at the end of the bench for as long as he remains in the NBA.. Actually come to think of it he;s older so he makes more (on a vet minimum deal) so why would anyone want to sign him?
