what was the last movie you watched?

Haven't heard much about either one...

I'm watching Julie & Julia. Better than I thought it would be, but it's making me awfully hungry!

:D
Thanks!

Yeah, I'm going to see that soon! I think Amy Adams is a really good actress! It's also a true story I've heard.

...and I've decided to go with Paper Heart! :)

Update: Julie & Julia is a delightful film! Meryl Streep totally nails the role of Julia Child. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just watched State of Play (the US adaptation with Ben Afleck). Solid political thriller with a strong supporting cast (lots of "oh its that guy" moments).

I also caught Paycheck on TV which I had seen before and is not one of Afleck's better films, but I was amused to see Michael C. Hall as one of the feds chasing him.

And I watched Rattatouille the night before, I hadn't seen that yet but it may be my new favorite Pixar movie, though I am still catching up on all of them.

Went and saw Did You Hear About the Morgans? today with my wife. Pretty mediocre at best. If you want something in this vein, rent "For Richer or Poorer" instead, I like this movie much better than "Morgans".

I just saw district 9. I was pretty disappointed. I love scifi flicks, but this one just rubbed me the wrong way. I felt that it had some massive plot holes, and I don't like it in movies when EVERYBODY watching knows exactly what the main character should do, but he can't for the life him put it together.

Just watched Public Enemies, this was a good movie but I got bored at times. Michael Mann can do that to me, take something that I should totally be head over heels in love with and then mess it up somehow. Still its well made and acted and I will probably watch it again once I get through my ginormous backlog of movies to see.

Hard to say, but the original Conan movie and first couple Terminator flicks are tops for me, I think. Predator is pretty good, too.
predator and terminator 2 are definitley arnolds best movies. Total recall is amazing tho! " You think this is this is the real Quaid? it is!(murders everyone)"

haha and that chick with three knockers, man the first time i saw that i was a little kid i was in heaven! not 2 but 3!!!! haha

If everyone in movies did what they should do, then there'd be a lot of short and boring movies out there

O.K. I'll bite. What is it that he was supposed to do. I watched this a while ago and can't think of what you might be referring to.

Like one of my teachers used to say, if Hamlet didn't hesitate, the play would be over in three minutes. :D
This is true of one of my favorite movies, Wicker Park. If only the main characters had cell phones or used e-mail, then the movie wouldn't have happened. You have to be able to suspend disbelief just a little bit when you're watching a movie these days.

Beware, District 9 spoilers:
When he was sitting in the Nigerian gang's lair, after the mech thing had killed all of the Nigerians, he showed it his claw and it clearly opened up so he could hop in. Instead, he sits there and moans and cries for another 5 minutes until he puts two and two together. After that, he has more firepower than a destroyer, but instead shoots like three people and runs for crashed command module, all the while taking damage from the dozens of mercenaries surrounding him (why did the Barrett hurt so much when the other guns did not? It's a 50 cal, but it's not that different then everything else they were shooting). It's not like these are nice guys, they tried to cut him up alive and harvest his body parts, and he'd already killed a bunch of them. Why not actually use to bad *** mechanical body suit, kill them all, and calmly stroll to the wrecked ship?

Also, why did he hit the smart alien and knock him unconscious? Yeah, it sucks that it's going to take three years to get yourself turned back into a human, but it's better than never. Just because you're angry doesn't mean that you should destroy your one chance of returning to normalcy. After clearly demonstrated below average intelligence (which was at least alluded to in the movie), why did he suddenly decide that he could operate the command module and the various devices on the mother ship that could make him human again?

Furthermore, I thought his character was particularly poorly drawn. He wasn't likable in the slightest bit, and was hardly believable. His change of heart was predictable, yet poorly contrived. Why did the grunt wait just long enough for Wikus to change his mind before killing the smart alien? Convenient at best.

Lastly, nearly every fight in the movie followed both the principle of evil marksmanship (that bad guys are always terrible shots, despite apparently being elite soldiers), and the one-at-time attack rule (bad guys never attack in groups, and instead wait patiently for their evil teammates to be defeated before attacking the hero). This is common for the genre, so it's not that big of a deal, but I was hoping for more.

All of those things wouldn't have been a big deal, except for the fact that the writers/director were trying to do something different. A fresh idea, so to speak. As such, it had a lot of potential. But, if you're going to go to all the trouble of being new and different, why fill the movie with antiquated, predictable plot devices that we've seen 1,000 times before? All that being said, I didn't hate the movie. It was okay, but I can't see a reason that it got such good reviews (8.4/10 on IMDB). I was totally okay with the end only being a partial resolution. I'm not bothered by movies without happy endings. I think the biggest downfall of the movie were the poorly drawn characters. You basically had two fleshed out main characters (Wikus, who's character wasn't very good, and the Smart Alien, who was decent), and a bunch of stock characters that did nothing for the movie.

Widowmaker got it right on the money. Echoes my sentiments perfectly. Good movie, entertaining if you don't really key in on it and expect greatness. Could have been so much better. Having said that, if you got time to kill and haven't seen it, would recommend it.

picked up Worlds Greatest Dad on redbox. i want my $1.09 and 10 minutes back. 10 minutes was all I could stand. I rented it primarly because it had Robin Williams in it. I should have read that it was written and directed by Bobcat Goldwaith and saved my time and money. stinkeroo!

I think Insomnia is the only Robin Williams I can stand in about the last 15 years. His stand up is still pretty hilarious. Bobcat as director? Oh my.

I watched this movie called We are Wizards at bedtime last night. I think the netflix streaming froze at the end but its an entertaining look at Harry Potter fans, including quite a few Wizard Rock bands (Harry Potter themed bands). I called them Weezerd Rock because they seemed to borrow a lot from Weezer while sucking greatly. Still pretty entertaining to see if you have the netflix streaming.

Pixar is incredible, they make one masterpiece a year. The only thing I can blame them is they're putting the level so high that any other animation film look mediocre or just and plain "good". The only not-pixar animation movies that I really liked a lot were Shrek and Shrek 2.

I've seen Gamer again. Really love what that Neveldyne/Taylor are doing to action genre.

For non-Pixar I like Kung Fu Panda a lot and Monsters vs. Aliens had its moments, both were Dreamworks and I thought better than Shrek. Monster House was also pretty good which surprised me because it seemed to be fighting an uphill battle getting made in the wake of The Polar Express (which is a lot better in IMAX). Lots of friends at my old job now do more animation-style than live action CG work and while the CG isn't bad the storytelling isn't really up to snuff on most of them which I think is what really sets Pixar aside. Which is remarkable because the stories themselves are somewhat formulaic but Pixar manages to squeeze so much into them.

Bolt which is Disney but not-Pixar was also pretty good.

I've also heard good things about Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

Finally got to see The Hangover. I'm not quite sure what it is, but "taser humor" leaves me rolling on the floor in spasms of laughter. I guess I'm just shallow and way too easily amused.

:)

Trucker. I really don't know why I picked this movie because I never heard of it nor have I seen any previews. After watching this movie, it was actually pretty good.
