nba refs

I absolutely refuse to be drawn into this kind of thinking. Our young Kings deserve better than have the officiating excuse brought up every time they lose a heart-breaker. There were mistakes made at the beginning of the second half that let the Lakers back into the game and you know what? It wasn't the officials who made those mistakes. It was our Kings. And they'll learn from them.
They may learn from them, but the results aren't going to show for a few years. If we don't get blown out tomorrow, it will probably be another crunch time fourth quarter filled with kings mistakes culminating in another heartbreaking loss.

Anyone else see Lamar Odom enjoying an orange with less than minute to go in the game? "It's all right guys... the refs got our back. Have a piece of orange with me." :D

I don't think the league refs are dirty. But I did just hear a rumor that tomorow night's game will be started off with Nowitzki shooting free throws instead of the jump ball. :D

I'm not sure what your point is. We're rebuilding and have the third youngest roster in the league. I'm not expecting us to get to the playoffs for a couple of years, so anything they do after April 15 is icing on the cake.

I'd take a game like tonight's over the past TWO YEARS any day of the week. Why? Because, despite the score, it was clear that we have a TEAM, not just a bunch of random players, and we have a COACH.

The Lakers made mistakes. Lots of them. Enough so that they were losing handily. That is until the fouls started going against the Kings. Why doesn't it work both ways. No team is perfect. The players play there best and both sides miss shots. Why are you picking on just the Kings?

One of these days you will see a random crazed fan wearing a kings ninja suit jump on the court and tackle one of the lakers in order to save the game somehow.

That fan will be me.

And your neighbors will say "he seemed so normal, quiet and respectful. I just don't know what came over him":p

We'll you keep saying, "we learned from our mistakes" every single time we lose, and so far it looks like we haven't. I'm just making sure when you say that your talking about the distant future, not next game. Sorry, optimism annoys me after games like this.

I don't. I think we are making some intelligent points. If you and others don't agree, so be it, but spare me the biting wit.
I'm sorry, but it all sounds the same to me every time. The Kings lost this game. Kobe, as well as LeBron and several others will always get the benefit of the doubt at the end of the game because they've proven they can make that shot or that big play. I'll agree the Shannon Brown play was a bad call. But the refs did not miss two free throws or make all those unforced turnovers in the second half. It's part of being a young team and the growing pains that go with it.

I don't play "yeah, but" or "what if"... It is what it is. And what it is right now is an incredible young team that should be just starting to learn to walk...
Will you be so forgiving when they are in game 6 of the WCF against the Lakers and up by 12 and the refs start callin' bogus fouls?

Fair is fair. Doesn't matter if we are a young team or a veteran team. Call it fair and the game will be more enjoyable for everyone.

Doesn't mean that the refs and the NBA should ASSURE that they get twice as many opportunities, just because it "sells".

I don't play "what if" and I don't buy into people playing "what if" to try and prove a point.

The Kings had a 20-point lead. They allowed the lakers back into the game primarily because they're a young team and don't know how to lock down a game, especially with a short roster available...

I am not going to use the officiating as an excuse and you won't see the guys using it either.

for criticizing refereeing, i believe reggie theus and kings were fined last year as well. Stern gets pretty serious when it comes to that
Wrong. The Kings will not be fined for anything Jerry Reynolds or Grant Napear say. That's not how it works. Paul Westphal didn't say anything wrong and none of the players said anything wrong.

grant and jerry are still employed by the kings. jeff van gundy got fined by stern for comments he made on tnt while commentating a game.

There's a difference between making excuses and calling the refs out on awful calls or non-calls. I unfortunately didn't get to see the game, and I'm sure it wasn't the refs' fault that we lost a 20 point lead, but that last play by Kobe was ridiculous. He football-tackled sergio. OK, I guess the ref can claim that he just bumped into him trying to get to the ball. But I watched the video of the last shot like 5 times already, and either I really need to get my eyesight checked, or Kobe's foot was clearly on the line (out of bounds). The ref was looking at Kobe and there was absolutely NOTHING to prevent him from seeing that, and he still didn't make that call. I rarely talk about refs, but this just seems like a bit out there.

What did Grant and Jerry say? League Pass cuts off the broadcast at the very end of the game. Except for the Lakers where they showed all of Kobe's installation as the next saint.

If we hadn't lost the 20-point lead, Kobe wouldn't have been in a position to win the game by some questionable maneuvering and a last shot from out of bounds.

The thing is at some point you have to just quit crying about bad luck and a couple of bad calls at the end of a game. Our guys aren't whining right now and we need to quit using it as our "go to" excuse for losing close games.

At some point, we'll find the way to close out teams without letting them back in. And we'll do it without relying on the officials to bail us out.

Basically, they said you cannot let the Lakers back into a game you've led by 20 points and not expect them to win.

I asked a pretty straight forward question. Sorry if you and "the guys" don't think it merits consideration. My "what if" didn't seem to stop you from voicing your opinion though.

Why would they get fined for saying that?
they aren't getting fines. That was an assumption, not a fact.

Grant and Jerry did show the replays of the last few seconds and talked about Kobe getting clear to make the final shot, but they aren't governed by league rules as to what they say being subject to fines. And what they did say wasn't that bad anyway.

You said "what if" it was game 6 ... as part of a response to me. That's what I replied to.

I know they won't get fined, I just wondered what they said since I'm not in the Sac area and can't see a wrap up when League Pass cuts it off.

So they did talk about Kobe clearing out?
