Everyone knows. Yes the kings did things to keep themselves from winning. But that doesn change the FACT that the deck is stacked against you when you play the lakers. You will not get the calls. They will get the calls. Case closed.
Oh...I think us Kingsfans have known for a while. But you know what? The Kings are an NBA team. They have to step up and beat teams no matter what the obstacle. If the refs are giving you a raw deal...too damn bad. Deal with it. Refs be damned, we should have won the game tonight. A lot of stars aligned, reffing included, for us to lose. It was a promising game for a number of reasons (not the least of which Spencer beasting on the biggest front court in the league).
I absolutely refuse to be drawn into this kind of thinking. Our young Kings deserve better than have the officiating excuse brought up every time they lose a heart-breaker. There were mistakes made at the beginning of the second half that let the Lakers back into the game and you know what? It wasn't the officials who made those mistakes. It was our Kings. And they'll learn from them.
Like a Casino, the NBA is the house, the Laker is the dealer, you will get lucky from time to time, but eventually the odds are against you, and there is nothing you can do about it.
Kobe comes up with another game winner. Yet how many of his career game winners would have never been possible if the refs call the game fairly.
I've only heard parts of Donnelly's book, but this game sounded like it was officiated by all those "special" rules he spoke of.
What is the long term consequences for the NBA if Stern keeps this up. I can't believe that a 30 team league can survive if only a few players/teams are allowed to shine. Sooner or later, we all will have to become Laker fans, or just give up trying.

Agree - mostly. But dontcha think the Lakers get a few gift calls every game? It only takes one or two "gift" possessions to win games. Stern does need to call off his refs.
If Kobe doesn't get special consideration, this game would not have to come down to free throws. How far would you carry your logic. Shouldn't you blame missed shots in the first quarter as well?

Absolutely agree 1000%. Kings had two 20 pt leads and let those slowly slip away. THEY lost leads and ultimately game to Lakers not because of the refs. Blaming officials is a loser mentality and disease some Kings fans need to get over - get immunized against - something
But do you know where we're coming from VF? I'm not depressed or mad about this game because from the point of the phantom brown foul call everything else happened as i expected. Kobe might have been out of bounds but didn't get the call. Expected. Kobe shoves Sergio off him for the game winner. No call. Expected. When you play the lakers you have to EXPECT those calls and work through them. That sucks. Only in the NBA. I don't see the patriots or the Yankees get consistant favoritism year after year. Only in the NBA!

It's not just the fouls called, it's the fear of fouls being called that also significantly changes the outcome of the game and how Kobe's defenders play him. It's set up to make sure showtime players don't get "bothered" by defense. It's BS.

If homey hits both free throws in the final 4 seconds the game is over and the KINGS win. He missed and Kobe does what he does. When you can't hit free throws in the clutch.....you lose (circa 2002).
That is 100% correct. If it's any closer you have to expect to not get any calls. That's wrong. No matter what has happened up to that point it is Just WRONG that you have to expect obvious fouls not get called.
Oh well. This is a never ending subject. Have a good night kings fans.

Chicken or the egg. Bottom line: Officials should call it the same. Home. away. Lakers, Kings, scrubs. This is not Pro Wrestling. If the games aren't marketable enough officiated fairly, find some other way to add excitement.

I know where you're coming from. I just don't happen to agree... If the Kings hadn't burned the lead, they wouldn't have had to worry about the phantom call or Kobe shoving Sergio off. If Westphal hadn't made that desperation timeout call, it wouldn't have gotten to the point where any of that was relevant as the Kings would have won.
I don't play "yeah, but" or "what if"... It is what it is. And what it is right now is an incredible young team that should be just starting to learn to walk and yet they're running marathons and competing. I'm not going to make excuses for them and I know damned well they aren't making any for themselves. They know they're close and they're going to figure it out. You can take that to the bank.

I rather doubt that. That's the worst argument of all for conspiracy. If that were the cause, hell, we should ALWAYS beat the Lakers, because we're always the underdog. Not much point in trying to get rich betting on the prohibitive favorite.
at the end of the broadcast tonight grant and jerry showed the replay of the shannon brown foul where he stepped on jasons foot, causing jason to foul out. WOW! kings are getting fined
