Oden's season over

#5
From ESPN:

"Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will likely miss the season after fracturing his left patella during a game against Houston on Saturday night. Oden will undergo surgery."

Wow...

Reminds me of Shaun Livingston, which had to be the worst thing I ever saw on a basketball court...

totally unfair, and in the big picture it seems like the teams with all the luck have all the rings.

A good character a player under extreme magnification by fans and media after missing a year, first round pick, hard worker, but unlucky.

Absolutely horrible. His first 3 seasons thrown away, and you can't rule out long term effects. Just terrible. I feel pretty bad for Oden right now.

I thought injuries would be a persistent problem for him, but I had expected a load of minor injuries, and hoped he'd be able to suit up for a majority of games. Very surprising and disappointing if this is the end.

The only pain greater than the physical pain he feels right now its the pain that he feels he is letting down his teammates his organization and his city

agreed.. especially when he was dubbed to be a "once in a decade" center.. his pride's got to be hurting too.. physical pain can heal but the lost time? the chances... :(

Seems like a lot of over 7-foot and hefty guys have problems like this - although this particular injury to Oden presumably could have happened to any basketball player. Yao, Walton, Sabonis, from a few years back on Portland - and there's others. Makes one wonder if playing "smaller" (maybe not exactly Nellie small ball) is not realistic wave of the future in NBA.

But the tall guys who don't break down dominate. Duncan, Shaq, Howard. Basketball will always be a tall people sport.

I don't want to look, odds are it will be on TV replays here and I'll see anyway. Very sad for the local fanbase here, and as I've said before he seems like a genuinely good guy who loves to play, so I'm very sorry to hear about this.

Really sucks. He is extremely young still though so who knows.

The fact is, Portland is better off without him. His defensive contributions have just not been worth how much he hampers their offense.

Hey Shaun Livingston is still only 24 years old... and still trying to come back to the league.... :(

Always sad to see ANY athlete goes down like this.

You misspelled Andre Miller.

Portland's offense was just fine last year, when Oden was playing for them. And there's no chance that Portland's winning a title without him; hell, they're a longshot to make the playoffs without him.

Wow. This might be the backbreaker here.

That looks extremely gruesome. He's still extremely young, but unlike Shaun Livingston's case, as a big man he takes more pounding in rebounding, establishing post position, etc. If and when he recovers, I think he'll be a shadow of what he is...right now. I don't think he's the type who will develop a finesse game/develop a jumper either to offset some of the difficulties. Just an unfortunate case--I think it's nearly a 0% chance, now, that he will reach that extremely lofty potential he once held.

Yeah with microfrature surgery on his right knee and now basically a broken right knee. Him being 270+ lbs and makes his living running and jumping. I'd say at best could be a Grant Hill type player. All the talent in the begining but these 2 injury's will shorten his career and definatley take away from his talent.

Ouch, I feel bad for him because he seems like a nice guy and it's not fair that he consistently gets injured. He could've(and still could be, but it's a longshot) been really good. Right now this is looking like Bowie over Jordan again. Think of Drexler+MJ, and now they have a lesser version where they could've had Roy+Durant, which would be better than what they have now. I hope he recovers though.
