Ron Artest -- something to with a new contract...

If the Lakers also bring back Odom then this is a good signing. If not, then this is a dumb move imo. Odom fits that team better than Artest.

wow.... between this and rasheed going to boston, lebron might not win a ring anytime soon. unless the cavs get another player like ariza.... or a real bigman.

kobe and artest on the same team, damn... though kobe's defense is hella overrated and artests is declining they would still cause major problems. i doubt that they win 70 games though. it depends on odom i guess, i dont think he wants to come off the bench again. what happens if odom chooses to take the mle from the cavs? the laker bench would look horrible. unless sasha and luke come up big this season, which i doubt.

I mean I understand not paying him $8 million. But at least offer the same $6mil/yr contract to Ariza first if they really wanted him. If Ariza declines, then its on him.

I don't really see why he would sign with the Rockets when its said and done. They are over tha cap too so that means all they can offer is the MLE and maybe guarantee him a starting spot.

I mean why would u want to go from a championship team to a team that will probably be at the bottom if Yao really can't play at all. We know TMAC won't be there since microfactures never heals on time or heals nicely.

If all he gets is MLE offers from other teams.... his first choice is the Cavs. He'll continue to get to put up his open 3s because Shaq and Lebron = open shots for other teammates.

I just think Trevor is a much better fit for the lakers than Artest. Look back at the playoffs, Ariza kind of somehow always found himself making a critical play down the stretch. not just the steals... but grab an offensive reb and put back with less than a minute in a close game. Hit a big 3... I just don't see Artest being able to do that.

I'm not suprised that Ron decided to sign with the Lakers. There's always been 2 places he wanted to play in - L.A with Kobe and the other in New York. New York probably wasn't going to offer him anything and they seem to be far away from a championship. While L.A just won one.

Odom won't leave. His friend Artest is coming and ron taking the MLE means more $ for LO. I can see Ariza going to the Cavs though. It makes the most sense since Rockets can only offer MLE as well.

Going to the Cavs gives him the best chance for revenge.

I feel sorry for you, supamari0, but I can help but think you guys dodged what would have been just another bullet. With Yao possibly out of the picture, Artest might well have decided it was on his shoulders to do it all for your team and that road leads to nothing but heartache for the fans...and frustration unending for both the fans and Ron-Ron.

As far as the team he's going to, no comment.

RKid... shouldn't you be on a lakers forum to discuss this instead?
Um, RKid has been here considering longer than you have, dude. He's taken his lumps and he's come to be one of the Laker fans - along with hoopsfan and Gargamel - who post here on a variety of topics, and mind their manners (for the most part ;) ) when they do so. He added to an existing thread. I don't see a problem...

Now I wish we were better for the sole purpose of competing with the Lakers and kicking their ***... it would be alot of fun to destroy them next season. I like(d) artest, but now that he is a traitor I have no choice but to hate his guts and wish only the worst kind of fate upon him... :)

Ah..... relax. The "" = sarcastic. Lighten up, don't make this into a personal thing.

Thats what he wants... he won't get it. At this point in their careers.. Ariza is better for championship contending teams. He doesn't need the ball on offense, is ok with averaging only a few points a game if thats whats needed.

Just plays D and makes game changing steals. Ron doesn't do that anymore. Like I said... u can clearly tell Ron's D is on the big decline when you watch him guard the top wing guys in the league. They all drive pass him at will.

The reason Artest played well with the Rockets this yr is because TMAC wasn't there so Artest got the ball a lot and was the # 2 option. I can't see "the blackhole" will be happy with waiting for catch and shoot situations every game.

Ariza is probably going to the Cavs for revenge.
Obviously, Kupchak disagrees with you. And for what it's worth, Kupchak has made very good moves to win another championship for the Lakers. I used to bash Artest all the time but the last few years, he's actually showed some restraint. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope Jackson can coach the team to another championship. Well, they have to re-sign Odom first.

I'm thinking a Portland (if they land Hedo) and Boston finals. L.A. and the Cavs are just stuffing and duct taping their gaping holes now with temporary and unstable solutions.

Ok, from what I've heard, Ariza is going to the Rockets and Crazy Ron looks to be signing with the Lakers. Personally, I would rather keep Trevor...

I guess the Lakers were offering the MLE, his agent said they wanted more but ended up taking the MLE from Houston. If he's not getting getting more money, he's going there out of spite...not a good move IMO.

It was nice not to have drama this past season...I guess that's that's gone now. :(

Free-agent forward Ron Artest says he's leaving the Houston Rockets to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

In a text message to ESPN.com on Thursday night, Artest wrote: "I am happy to say I am goin' to L.A."
ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reports that Artest and the Lakers have reached a verbal agreement on what is believed to be a three-year contract worth an estimated $18 million. Wednesday is the first day free agents are permitted to sign new deals.

Look at it this way, hoopsie. At least you're going in with your eyes open as you watched how Ron-Ron was able to divide our fan base in short order. You know what can happen... I feel sorry for you and Gargy and RKid. As far as the typical Laker fan, though, they've got some grief coming IMHO. And they're not going to be laughing quite as hard when it happens in their backyard - which it will - instead of ours.

I haven't slept in 4 days, I got so much studying, a kid, a needy wife. I just really oughta keep my mouth shut right now. But since I find these offseason moves by other teams objectionable (is that the right terminology??), I am admittedly throwing out blanket observations with no real meat on their bones.

My brain hurts okay slim? I just think Ariza was a good long term solution in L.A. What do I care anyway. I hope they fall apart and the pieces explode. I hate the dang Lakers.

Thanks for the sympathy, VF. :)

I don't know if Artest drama could outdo what went on when Shaq was in town...things worked for a couple years....I guess we'll see. I'm disappointed to tell the truth.

Ohhhh, trust me - it can. And the difference is, at least Shaq brought you some titles.

De javu. I remember the last time the Lakers won a championship and some aging vets decided to join the Lakers and get them a ring. Well that didn't work out to good. Just ask Karl Malone and Gary Payton.

Artest has a good sight more game left in him than Gary Payton.

And, the injury in the Finals aside, Carpetbagger Malone was actually a good fit for the lakers. He, for one, was not washed up; he played his role, and played it well. If he doesn't go down in the Finals, he probably has a ring. He still has no honor, but that's beside the point.

I think David Lee got Gordon Gekko'd here for trying to twist the Lakers' arm in the media on Day 1 of negotiations for the 2nd time. Since he's still Drew's agent, I hope he starts to realize that maybe he's not as smart as he thinks he is. I feel bad that Ariza is the casualty. Fire him, Trev.
