So much for the Spurs chances this year..

Ginobili out for season and playoffs

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that guard Manu Ginobili will miss the remainder of the 2008-09 regular season as well as the 2009 NBA Playoffs. Ginobili felt stiffness in his lower right leg during the Spurs-Cavaliers game in Cleveland on Sunday afternoon. Following the game he returned to San Antonio. Earlier today, in San Antonio, he underwent a CT scan and an MRI. The examinations showed an increased marrow edema and a stress fracture in his right distal fibula. No timeline has been determined for Ginobili’s return to the court.

I can smell a 6th seed upset this year
Anything is possible in the West. I think the Lakers are a shoe-in for the 2nd round, but anything else really wouldn't surprise me. I bet the Celtics go down in the 2nd round too, I said since TDOS that they weren't gonna repeat.

I'm more concerned about whether this could open the door to us stealing a lin later this week.

Its just not fair! Why can't we have any good injuries!?

Their chances weren't good even with Manu and now it is totally gone. More importantly, does this signify the end of the Spurs era as we know it?

Duncan isn't getting any younger. He can still put up stats but his overall impact on the game is nowhere near what it used to be.

Manu is injury prone and has a lot of mileage on his legs. How long can his 31-year old body hold up with his aggressive style of play?

Parker remains as the only guy in his prime and the rest of the team is filler. Even the promising guys like Mason and Udoka have limited ceiling for further development as they are already over 28.

I don't see them as a championship contender unless they go through some serious revamping. Nevertheless, they had a wonderful run with a few championships and deserve due recognition.

Y'know, most of us are probably looking forward to the offseason at this point. We need a new acronym
Well, as you may know, back in the days when the Kings were good, we dreaded the off season as the forum would be overwhelmed with a gazillion trade scenarios, ideas and what not.

An idle mind + seemingly normal kings fan = blather with a high WTF quotient

Suffice to say, we missed seeing our wonderful team in action in more ways than one.

people say that every year and duncan proves them wrong every year... he was never the most athletic but the skills that he does have at his disposal are timeless.... that back board will always be there for him when he needs it.

Spurs were probably the only thing standing between the Lakers and a breezy trip to the Finals..

Stars are definitely aligned for LA. Too bad about Gino.

As a fan of Duncan, I would absolutely welcome Duncan to prove me wrong. His impact, both offensively and defensively, (even when he was healthy) has gone down despite the pretty numbers (20 and 10). Stats don't tell the whole picture.

They were an exaggerated threat. If they were a roadblock at all, it was by way of their experience and overall talent (IF healthy). When the rubber meets the road, they had bad mismatches. Bonner on Odom, committee on Kobe, lanky 7 footer to bother Duncan, probably another 7 footer to add to the mix (which clogs the paint on Parker). Ariza could've hounded Manu if healthy. Spurs can't win at Staples, either.

Imo, Utah is definitely a tougher matchup than SA, mainly because their home court makes it hard even for LA to win there. I would say the same for Portland, but virgins often don't know how to perform when the big moment arrives.

I like Utah too, but they're not beating anybody unless they start winning on the road

I would have to disagree. The Celts will win again this year.

We'll see ;)

Obviously it depends on who they'd play in the second round (the Magic most likely), but even if they do get past them , I just can't see them beating Lebron in a 7 game series
In light of Manu, is anyone suspicious about Garnett being re-shelved after playing a few games? That's not very orthodox for a player coming back from a knee problem when everything is supposedly fine.
