2009 NCAA Tournament

Something's screwed up...if you listen to Wingo's lead ins for the Cal game, he thinks he's sending us to San Diego.

I am boycotting ESPN2, they aren't going to make me watch Vandy hrumph!

OMG! OMG! I just looked at my bracket (which is already blown). I want to know why my bracket shows a Virginia pick over Cal. No way! No way I would not take Cal. I expected them to lose to UConn, but not before then. My eyes must not have paid attention to what my mouse was doing. :(

BTW - this has nothing to do with the bracket as much as I'm a northern CA Bears fan.

Ashley Walker leads Cal to a crushing of VA. She had 32 pts and 10 boards.

And Cal scores 99 pts to go to the Sweet 16 for the 1st time ever.

What a disaster of a day for my bracket. I only picked 2 of 8 correctly, although I still don't see how I accidently picked VA over Cal.

Turn off the gas on the bbq grill. I am done! Well Done!!

That had to be the quietest 24 pts ever...I swear every time they gave me a look in at that game they were telling me she had 2 pts/or was having a rough night.

On another note...Bonner's game tonight, or the uncomfortableness she seemed to have against a team that wanted to push her around...is that already on the scouting report or did GM's make a note on her with red ink? When UConn manhandled Mazzante a few years back, that seemed to tie a rock around her draft stock...

I think Ann Meyers will have a hard decision to make. She's wanted Kia Vaughn for the longest, and Kia's just now starting to play like a top 5 pick. However, Bonner's been Phoenix's #1 target since February and has been EXCELLENT all season. Hmm...do you go for the "tournament darling" or the "regular season superstar"?

With the Liberty FO in attendance to witness the Rebirth of Kia Vaughn, I don't see how Vaughn will be on the board past the 8th pick. I would need to see how Vaughn handles Wisdom-Hylton before moving her up into lottery range.

I find it hard to think like Meyers, so..if it were me I might go with Vaughn if she's still there. Again, thinking from the outside....I'd want somebody in the paint. Bonner, TSmith, LJ(if she indeed winds up there) all have similar games, Smith might actually play down in the paint out of necessity.

I'm not swayed per se by their tournament performances, that to me helps judge them at a different level, but it isn't their full work. Vaughn's got a pro body and a pro game, her head/desire is what holds down her stock. I'd be willing to roll the dice on the body and game being enough with the right coach and system and not needing her to start or do anything outside of what she should be able to do: grab some boards and push people around.

But if she loves Bonner, more power to her lol...but it does make sense the more I think about it tho, once I stop thinking about how much they all would be similar types of players lol.

I saw enough tonight to know that Kia Vaughn will be a top 10 pick in April. If she continues to impress, she could find her way into the top 5. According to those in the know, she has the most pro-ready body in this draft and should not be anything less than a 15 and 10 player. Why she hasn't produced like that all season has to do with the system, her teammates, and her desire to improve. But she's been a major player since the second UConn game.

I guess it depends on what people consider more of a project: taking a proven college player with undesirable WNBA physical attributes or taking an unproven/underachieving college player with elite WNBA physical attributes. I know I'm steering off-course here, but this is perhaps the reason why the tiny point guards aren't both being heavily promoted as top 3 picks while a physical specimen like Vaughn could easily be selected ahead of both despite doing less than both all season.

I think its always safe to err on the side of the player with the pro body/pro game. (Which explains Kara Braxton's continued employment) It just seems there's always more to work with there and less work to have to put into getting some early payoff.

I'd add to my thoughts on Vaughn, I might have mentioned this in whatever thread where she came up before. She just built that body this season...or the body I like this year. When I saw her warming up @ Cal in November, I was trying to figure out why I never noticed she looked like that. Somebody told me when I asked that she went to work on changing her body in the offseason. As a GM that would matter to me a whole lot too when I'm adding benes on the ledger.

I was too busy to see the 4:00 games, but I see that the first #1 seed to fall was Duke. I think that sets up a possible final 4 for Stanford who has been playing well.

I'm glad they switched to let us see the final minute + of the Baylor/SDST game. What a finish! And, that was a beautiful floater to break the tie with .5 sec left.

BTW - Coach Kim Mulkey for Baylor looked really peaked tonight. You can tell she left the hospital to come and coach her ladies. Good for Bayor.

I was so frustrated that the LSU/Louisville game was the national broadcast. I would have taken ANY of the other games over this one, which I found boring. I agree with what was mentioned before about the Baylor/SDST game being the most appealing to the masses, I was really pulling for SDST.

On a side note, everytime I watch Angel play, she always seems to play with some sort of attitude problem, it almost looks like she's about to cry at times. Not to take away from her game because she is very talented, but it seems like she has a very large chip on her shoulders.

Ladies and gentlemen, your Marissa Coleman update..

42pts 15rebs in their come from behind win over Vandy.

It will be McCoughtry and Coleman et al on Monday.
That was an absolutely great performance by Marissa, just carried her team. However, if Vandy scored that much on Maryland, I'd hate to see what Louisville can do against them. Gotta give props to Risper though, she did her part to try to lead Vandy to the upset...as did Wirth.

Fantastic!! I have Maryland playing against UConn in the championship game (not that my brackets matter, since they are already blown up).
