Sessions

Haha, I emailed Geoff Petrie, no joke. Thanks for that link. Man oh man am I hoping for this .
Not going to do anything. I wrote a very long and heart-felt email to that email about Yi a year or two ago. Nothing happened obviously, and as expected (however, I did get a pretty nice response which was cool).

Hey, after writing the email I got a very prompt email back from one of Petrie's associates. While I realize that the message probably didnt get passed on to Geoff, I bet if enough people write emails regarding the issue, someone will at least mention it to Geoff like "man a lot of fans are writing about this one player." Either way, Geoff is a professional GM, i dont think there is anyone were looking highly at that he isnt. If you have the time send an email though, why not!

Geoff's pride is at stake!

Getting Sessions would be admitting he gave a terrible contract to Beano.

Seriously though, GP knows we are lacking in PG. And I'm sure he's aware of Sessions' play. Hopefully we can ship out some '10 expirings for '09 ones. I'd rather make a run at a young stud PG then what ever ex-allstar aging scrubs are left over in '10.

Exactly none of those big name Allstars are going to sign with us anyways in 2010.. Sessions has all-star potential. What would you guys be willing to offer for Sessions. I'd give up Houstons 1st,Greene, Jackson For Sessions & Expiring. Its alot to loose Greenes potential but we are pretty deep at SF and I cant see Greene getting many minutes next year unless Salmons is traded.

Then our PG spot would be solidyfied and we could use our 1st pick on one of the young Bigs in the draft.

Email The Kings To Get Sessions!

heres the email address
kings@arcoarena.com

once again heres the email address to get in touch with the Kings. I got a very quick in depth response back from one of Geoffs associates aswell so the more emails we send I think the better chance we land Sessions lol.

No offence guys but you are all seriously deluded if you think that Petrie or anyone in the Kings hierarchy would make a decision based on what the fans think!

If Petrie doesn't like Sessions, I can guarantee you that no amounts of emails will make him go after him. Just not going to happen.

Yeah.. he wont make a move based on the fans that buy Arco's seats... why would he? Screw the fan and the tickets...
Haha! I don't know whether to laugh or cry after that comment!

Actually, its quite commical to find out that there is someone out there that thinks a number of emails from fickle fans will convince the managment to sign a certain player. Not a superstar calibre player but a 2nd round pick thats in his second year in the league!

If managment were listening to everything that fans wanted I can guarantee you that there would be no Sacramanto Kings. If we were to listen to the fans of this board over the last number of years we would have Kwame Brown, Amir Johnson, Andray Blatche, Calvin Booth etc on the roster now!

Seriously, any GM that gives in to the pressure of fickle fans should just resign now! And what happens if GP drops a long term deal on Sessions and he proves to be a dud that just played to his max in his contract year?! I am willing to bet that those same fans that wanted Sessions signed would be the first asking for GP's hand!

If fans had THAT much input into their team, then they would be running it which clearlt they are not. Never have and never will!

obviously all of us who wrote emails are aware that he is a GM for a multi million dollar franchise, and whatever we say probably has no weight in anything he does. Were not expecting him to make a decision based on what we say, but maybe if his associates get enough emails regarding a certain player, that associate may say something simple along the lines of "weve been getting a lot of emails about this particular guy", and obviously that wont sway geoff one way or another, but at least it will put sessions name in his mind an extra time. Who knows, that could help us fans out. If not, no big deal, were just havin some fun. Not like its hurting anything, were at a point where its like why not try some extreme measures, even knowing that 99.9% chance they wont have an impact.

Carolija-

I definitely understand your points. I think us e-mailers are just trying to say were just having fun with it, why not, we got nothing to lose. Either way, as much as id welcome sessions, and as much potential that I believe he has to be a star, i definitely would NOT want us offering a ton for him at this point. I am pro sessions, but not pro sessions for a huge contract or half of our roster.

Simply this: chaos breeds chaos. Step into a whirlpool and you're more likely to go down with it then somehow be the one to turn things around. The Maloofs need a new arena, they call the shots, the economy is in major trouble for everyone, and the Kings roster has very few tradeable assets. You do the math. No I don't think Kenny Natt will be the coach next year, but does it matter? Who's going to take his place? We haven't had a real coach since Adelman left, I'm not assuming next year will be any different until I see otherwise. There's no guarantee even Petrie is going to still be here in a couple of years if we rack up a couple more last place finishes.

The reality of the situation is that you can't simply acquire players. You have to manage your salary situation effectively. We're paying Udrih 6 million next year. Sessions is going to command a mid-level deal from someone. So now you're paying 12 million dollars for the point guard position on a last place team going nowhere? I don't see it happening. Not in this economy, not with these owners, not without a new arena plan already in motion and guaranteed revenue in the future. Attentandce numbers this season are abysmal. It'd be foolish to think none of this applies to roster moves. If Sessions comes into Arco next season and isn't the messiah you've hoped for, now you've dug yourself an even bigger hole and it's going to take longer to get out of it. We're so close to clearing salary, I'd be extremely cautious about overcommiting right now to anyone.

With this situation, we don't need a "pretty good PG" right now. That was the same misguided logic behind giving Udrih 30 million dollars. My solution? Don't commit to anyone unless they're a guaranteed starter. If you can sign a young superstar to a max contract in two years with all that salary cap, do it. Otherwise we need to be acquiring young talent with cost-controlled contracts through the draft and developing them. Yes we need a PG, but we also need a SF, a PF, and a C. We have some talent already who could fill some of those roles, but none of them is a lock. We'll have two first round picks this year. If we can move anyone else for another one, even better. I'd rather commit to Holiday, Teague, Jennings, Rubio, Collison, John Wall, et al on a rookie deal than throw another 30 million dollars at a problem that still might not go away.
Great post.

I'm one of the people who thought Beno would be a solid contributor for us, and he's let me down greatly. Unless you're signing someone who is going to be a lock for you, you don't go out spending a lot of free agent money. Do it like Portland and OKC.

So true. And that's also what makes today so frustrating. We were 14 months away from clearing almost all our bad contracts and having two more lottery picks on our team. Adding Nocioni is just one more piece that is going to get in the way of us being able to steal an impact player for crap like OKC just did for instance because we are so far under the cap.

So who knows the official capspace/money we will have in the offseason to offer? I'm thinkin it'll take a 7 -8 mil contract a year to get sessions.
Assuming we don't re-sign any of the players we got in the trade and renounce all their rights, the salary committed is $46 million, plus the draft pick, which will probably be around $4 million. So that's $50 million. It depends on where the salary cap is set. It was $58 million this year, but there are rumors it could go lower.

So.... right now not much more than the MLE.

It's funny how a player making less than a million dollars can do no wrong, and then when you put $30 million next to their name suddenly they don't look as good anymore. As the saying goes... "Be careful what you wish for...because you might just get it."

This obsession with Sessions is getting beyond ridicilous. He is NOT the player you build around. Never has been and never will be. At best he can be a good NBA player. Now why on earth should be spend the money on a guy like that when you actually don't have a strong foundation to build from.

Sessions is the signing you do when you have a strong core. Not when you are at the beginning of your rebuild. Haven't we learned anything in recent years about players in their contract years?!

If we sign him up now it will be a mistake.

I think sessions would be a great addition, but I definitely agree here. I dont think I would break the bank on him, as promising as he's looked. Although Im sure many teams know this, and I dont know if the price to sign him will get bid up as high as we've seen it for some other guys. If the chance is there to get him at a decent price, i say we take it. I agree he is not the PG you build your franchise around, but he is definitely one who could help build the franchise given that we make other good personnel moves along the way.

I know people cite beno as an example of a PG who impressed one year and disappointed the next, but i dont think beno ever had games with 44pts/12asts, followed by 26pts/7asts and 15pts/17asts in the next two games, as soon as he was given the starting role. This is why I can understand and see peoples excitement about possibly signing him. He has shown much bigger flashes of potential and brilliance than other dud PG's who just played good in their contract year.

Honestly, Sessions will get more than 7 if we sign him. I would much rather let the relationship with Milwaukee sour and then go to his agent, because he will probably see the most money in Mil. He will be retained comeon....yea it would be nice to get him cheap, but comeon....he's playing better than jason kidd right now, thats like auto 9million a year.
