Oklahoma City Uniforms

I dont understand what the obsession over the black jerseys is. How bout putting a quality team on the floor.
Did you ever hear the nickname "The Queens" when the Kings were in Black?? I didn't. These oh so FABULOOOOOUS purprle Jersey's partially caused that nickname, and the play on the King/Queen thing. The uniforms we have right now are not intimidating in anyway, and really don't have a lot of style to them. That OKC prototype jersey posted earlier in the thread has some style.

I did, in fact, hear the nickname "Queens" when the Kings were in black. (Probably more - we were good then, and people were jealous.) I don't really think there's any connection between the purple uniforms and play-on-words insults, or intimidation, or any of that. Intimidation comes from the team you put on the floor, not the color of the uniform. Our TEAM is not that intimidating, and until we get better, there's nothing about our uniform that's going to change that unless Stern lets us attach poison spikes or circular saws to our jerseys.

And while the OKC prototype jersey was stylish, I don't think that style == black. We could get a fresh redesign of our purples (or my favorite blasphemy, the throwback powder blues) and look just as stylish without having to go black.

Shaq gave us that label. I don't think it was based on the uniform color. If that were the case, those gaudy yellow and purple Lakers uniforms scream "queen" more to me that our purple jerseys. ;):p

I don't think Shaq was the first, although perhaps the first player to use the term in the media. I remember hearing it back in my college days.

If the NBA truly has a restriction on how many teams can use Black uniforms, and if some teams in the last few years have tried to go to Black, or back to Black as rumored and have been turned down because of this restriction, and then Oklahoma gets to use Black then yes, it's pandering to them.

The NBA would be bending the rule, because a team moved, is changing their uniform, and wants to use Black, because it represents oil. The answer should be (if there is a restriction) I understand why you want to use the color Black, but we have turned down other teams in the last few years for going back to Black or changing to Black. Approving your uniform would not be fair to them. We believe having too many teams with the color Black is not a good thing, therefore we can not approve your new unfiorm.
I think you're trying to over-define the "restriction" part of this. The league has said, in the past, that they do not want too many teams in black. I don't particularly agree with their logic but I can understand the confusion if all teams wore white at home and black on the road. Not gonna sell a whole bunch of jerseys if they all look alike.

:)

I keep hoping for the best but I'd feel a lot worse if the Lakers were allowed to suddenly change to black, for example, than I will if the new team in OKC gets it. My preference is and always will be for us... but that's not my decision to make, unfortunately.

Are you serious?? Do you actually think there are NBA players that are intimidated by other players wearing black?? That is ridiculous. What is intimidating is have a great team, not a black jersey. Get real

Keep it civil, okay?

Thanks.

:)

I happen to agree with those who think the black jerseys were really cool. And, after seeing the gold lamé, I think a lot of us are just really nostalgic for something that isn't so ... well ... flamboyant.
