Monarchs get their first road win. Woohoo!!! To Ticha Penicheiro, team leader, and my favorite Monarch.....

YOU DA BOMB, GIRL!!

Amazing what happens when they play (closer to) 40 minutes....

I asked out loud during the first quarter for them to save some of that push for the 4th and limit that push they were giving up to the Libs to that first quarter. That 15-1 run they dropped on the libs in the 4th was nice...

She's getting closer to that reborn 23 year old that Ticha said she was. She looks more like ODU Ticha and rookie Ticha than the one we've seen. There was a spot in that 4th where she posted up Erin Thorn in addition to rising up over Mitchell :)...be still my heart..how long have we been waiting for her to take advantage of her size and strength like that?

Atta girl TP...now ice that ankle and get healthy for Minny....Good job M's way to close out a game...

My girl Ticha rocks! Soooooo tired of her not getting the props she deserves. How many games this year has she been in double figures? Wish that we could have seen THIS game:D

Just got in...SWEET MONARCHS WIN! YES!!!!
Way to go TP...I was juiced to see her as our top scorer.
My Sunday is complete;)

Anyway to rewatch that on any webcast?

It's blacked out. Boooooooo! I wanted to see that second half again.

I see it on the schedule again later tonight. Maybe we only get blacked out on the first run. I don't know, so I'm gonna set the dvr just in case.

M's got some help thanks to that mysterious Minnesota team beating San Antonio tonight. This may also be cause for concern since they also see that same Minny team on the 2nd night of the upcoming back2back.

Darn I don't get MSG...better set the VCR not the DVR, MB;)
Oh well, there's always highlights, won't be as satisfying...

Hey when we gonna get a viewing party this season?
All these road games are putting a cramp in my style:cool:

Well, aside from the fact that she no longer seems able to get assists like she used to, which is really weird, since the Monarchs, to this point in the season, have the best field goal percentage that they've had as a team since they had a healthy Walker.

True....but I think the assist thing will change. She may never go back to double digit assist tallies on a consistent basis like baby Ticha did because the offense triggers differently. But her commanding a portion of a game like she did today...or becoming more aggressive offensively on a consistent basis like she's done for much of the season should give her more room to operate as a passer. I have felt the more invisible she became offensively the fewer passing lanes she's had. But she actually wasn't looking to pass that much in the 4th. She was looking to score..or again be still my heart... backing her butt into Erin Thorn, calling for the ball and scoring. She made Mitchell look silly with a hard jab step and then faded away on a jumper. Can't remember which shot made her beat her chest and yell...but that was rookie Ticha ...the emotion, the look on her face that she was going to kill you on a pass or off the dribble it was just a matter of deciding which she felt like doing...was very cool to see again. She just needs to keep that up.

Yep! Killer Ticha at her best. I loved her as a rookie, and I still love her now. I live for the day when Monarchs #21 hangs in the rafters of ARCO.

Oh, I'll agree with that. I'm very impressed with how much more aggressive Penicheiro is on offense this season, and how comfortably she's stepped into the role of team leader; while Lawson and, to a lesser extent, Powell and Brunson share in the leadership, Penicheiro clearly seems to have become the "alpha female," so to speak... makes me wonder to what degree she may have been deferring to Yo Griffith these last few years, even though Griffith's skills have been on a steady, precipitous decline since 2005.

I've still never found out what the deal was when Sacramento played Seattle; there was all kinds of innuendo at the time, but whatever did or did not happen was lost on the television audience... So how about someone quit beating around the bush and tell us out of towners what really happened? How did Griffith's former teammates react? Did anyone snub her?

How do I put this....

There was a definite chill when to former best friends passed each other during the aftergame hi-fives. There is evidence of betrayal and heartache.

I am not near a computer proper...if someone can link up the Ticha SacBee article published nearly the hot minute after Yo left...or I will do it when I get back home. If you out of towners read between the lines of what Ticha says in that article and the way it is written you will get the idea of what the climate seems to be despite what Ticha publicly says. I definitely got a sense that there is a low frost warning there. As far as deferring? I got that impression from the Bee article because she does say she did because of the nature of how Yo operated as a captain and the difference in their personalities. I don't know that I got the sense that there were issues about that. I would definitely agree with George about the characterization of the emotion being depicted and the relationship between the two after the first week in April tho.

I went back and watch Griffith's last interview with News 10 and you can hear loud and clear what "is not" being said. At around the 9:40 and 16:10 minute mark. There is no mention of Ticha. Throughout the interview there is scant mention of Boucek, and I believe that Boucek and Penicheiro is joined at the hip. Take that for what it is worth.

What date is that Seattle game at Arco? July 8? The Monarchs have to get that one.

Well, if there's animosity between Griffith and Boucek, that actually doesn't surprise me. I never got the sense last year that Griffith was happy with the hire; I think that she recognized that her window for another championship is closing, and I think that she resented the fact that Whiseneant hired a rookie coach, and took that as the Monarchs starting over. I never got the sense that she actually believed in Boucek as a coach... and let's face it: if I were a professional athlete and I was older than my coach, I probably wouldn't, either.

The "chill" between Griffith and Penicheiro genuinely surprises me, though: I never got the sense that there was any animosity there and, from my point of view anyway, it seems as if whatever happened between the two of them happened all of a sudden, almost like a heel turn in wrestling.

I'm not suprised about Boucek and Griffith either, for basically the reasons Slim stated. The seeming rift between Ticha and Yo does surprise me, tho.

I wonder if Ticha was really hurt about Yo leaving and felt a bit betrayed? If Yo said nothing to Ticha before it was a fait accompli, that might've hurt, if Ticha thought they were close friends.

I'm just sorry that there appears to be some bitter feelings around Yo's departure.

Nice to get a road win, tho!

And part of Voisin's article (dated May 18) went:
Boucek, who last season clashed with the aging Griffith, who never shook loose from Whisenant's dynamic presence, came back with her own ideas...
I remember when I read that the first time back then, I was thinking, "Boucek and Yo didn't get along?" I had no idea. Anyone has any details or examples of this?
