Okay, nobody's blind and this isn't about Michael Jordan. ;)

Back to the topic at hand:

Tonight's game should really be incredible. Can the champs dig down deep enough to pull out a win on enemy turf? And, even if they do manage to win tonight, do they have two more wins in their bag of tricks?

The Spurs looked disoriented, tired and ... well, slow. Not that the Lakers looked like champions, mind you.

I don't honestly see a clear-cut winner among the four finalists, although my desire to see the Celtics kick major Laker arse are no secret. None of these teams actually seems to be getting better as the playoffs progress. It honestly could be anyone's title at this point, IMHO.

I feel the same way. Can't wait for tonights game, anything less of an all out A grade performance by the Spur will be disappointing.

here's what i don't get, about end of game no-calls specifically. i actually think the refs are fairly consistent in not calling these, but yet they are consistently WRONG. how is this a good/right thing? if you look at the replay last night, fished leaves the ground, comes down with an elbow drop to barry's head, but because barry doesn't flop (crumple to the ground) or do the usual, lame jump into the jumper, he doesn't get the foul call?
That's the way things are, everyone else has to deal with it why should it be different now? I personally don't like the refs swallowing their whistles in that situation but I'm in no way going to view the spurs as victims of some great screw job because the lakers got plenty of bad calls against them too in that game. That's all I'm saying is that the spurs didn't get screwed in that game.

i agree with ya there on both points. but regardless of it being the spurs, i just don't understand how it's a good thing for competition when rules are interpreted differently at the end of games.

this was a double edged sword for me. but i'd be lying if i said i was not extremely happy that both san antonio and their classless fans can be put to rest for the season.

Whatever, Slim. I'm really sorry you feel so strongly about this you have to make it personal. I'm a fan of the game of basketball. I'm looking forward to a finals of the Lakers-Celtics because, for me, it will at least be interesting.

I am truly sorry you don't feel that way but I'm really a little hurt that you're making such a big deal about this.

I'm not dancing in the streets, BTW, nor am I planning a parade. I am just glad the Spurs are finished for the year. That's it. It's not really about the Lakers. It's about the Spurs. And yes, I still think the Celtics will outlast the Lakers in the finals.

Again, I'm sorry you seem to take this whole thing so personally.

Their shoddy work put us in the position that Ryle mentioned a few posts above. Final score should've been Lakers by 7-10. Call me what you will, but don't cling to that no-call like your comrades do with .04 and I'll respect you in the morning.

(edit) - Bryant darted downcourt for a reverse jam to break another tie, as the braying public-address announcer sourly noted, "That was a two-pointer."

^ Lolz. He caught feelings.
i never complained about the no-call, .4, whether duncan was fouled by dirk (end reg game 7 2006), or anything else. one thing you can't call me is a whiner cause you can't find any evidence that i complain at all.

still, why does somebody who's team wins go on whining about the officating? it's a win, isn't it?

btw, congrats. lakers were the best in the west this season. maybe better next.

The Spurs really could've used JR Smith. I think it was this offseason? their front office tried to straight up trade Brent Barry for JR Smith (of course, after seeing JR explode against the Lakers in the playoffs, it seems so utterly one-sided now) but somehow, that trade fizzled out. Would probably have made the Spurs come off like geniuses again. They really needed that athleticism to match the Lakers in this series, and he could've been a great asset especially since Ginobili's hobbling.

I think underestimating the Celtics would be completely unwise in this one. The Lakers may come off as favorites after seemingly steamrolling through the competition (knocked off the Spurs in 5? Damn.) but the Celts may be gaining some momentum here, and their bench is actually quite underrated considering they have established players (Cassell, Brown, House, Posey) and a right mix of young players who can contribute (Powe, Tony Allen). Their offense, amazingly, is pretty putrid--can't score against the Cavs and Pistons, admitttedly both are great defensive teams, though. Still, it looks like Pierce is on a hot streak and Allen is waking up at the right time.

If you're a Kings fans and Lakers are in the finals, you have NO EXCUSE for being happy. None whatsoever. Lakers beat Kings at the top, collapse, and came back to the top. Where are the Kings? Not only am I envious, but my heart is not in it anymore for the Kings. I've been rooting for the Celtics because my cousin is a huge fan of them.

When you're 19, going to college in Southern California, claiming you're a Kings fans and wearing a Larry Bird jersey, and all you have to say is the Kings got screwed in 2002 in the 4th quarter of Game 6 of the WCF, you know you've supported one pathetic excuse of a team.

I didn't say you were. You're a pretty even-keeled fan, I've read your posts since 2000 on Usenet.

That issue is now dead horse territory. Here's a story. I take back roads on my drive to work, roads surrounded by small farms and dairies. On Tues and Wed, when the talk of the non-call was at it's peak, there was a dead horse on the side of the road that someone dumped there. A baby one. :( Today, it was gone. I guess I'll take that to mean that I no longer have a dead horse. I'm over it.

Thx. Definitely. I know it's tough to feel your team is old and I'm not trying to be snotty about it. My team was there 5 yrs ago in the worst of ways. And I'm pissed that your boyz didn't provide me any animated gifs of them crying on the bench.

See this how important it is to get a superstar. You need to sign him as FA which is nearly impossible if you are in a small market or draft him. That is why I am upset that we waisted a year just to get a 12th pick in the draft.

And yet, see how far the Nuggets were able to go with their superstars. And the Rockets with theirs. And the Mavericks with theirs, etc.

To win a championship, you have to have more than a superstar. You need Kobe, or Duncan, or Shaq, or Jordan. The teams that have a shot in the future have Chris Paul and Lebron James. If you don't have these guys, you have to get lucky like the Pistons.

Thats what being a fan is all about, sticking with your team throught thick and thin. It makes victory that much sweeter thats for sure.

Denver has a superstar?

Still really really REALLY wish we had not dropped that last weekend loss on the Hornets. We lose that game, Hornets are #1, Lakers are #2, this Lakers/Spurs matchup happens in the 2nd round, and then they still have to go through the Hornets in the WCF. As it was we made it all too easy -- they meet the weakest opponent in Rnd 1, get an ovematched "opponent" type opponent in Rnd 2, and then get an old Spurs team coming off a tough tough 7 game series against the Hornets.
