It's funny. When he was drafted, there were so many nay-sayers about Spencer being picked and now that he is getting playing time, look at the love..... Irony! Joe Kleine, i think not!!!!!

You really are trying to live up to your name, aren't you? ;)

Cool Spencer! I'm wondering how good you can be. Maybe you're wondering too. No question you're going to be a very solid NBA player. Will your style develop more like Dirk Nowitzki? Pau Gasol? Chris Kaman? I have a feeling you'll simply carve out your own niche and be compared to no one else - just Spence the 7 footer with lots of slick moves, great outside shot, great free throw shooter (like Yao!), shot blocker on defensive end and hopefully great rebounder as well. Kept up the excellent work!

More like, Tim Duncan with a better jumper and better free throw shooting.

I Was Wrong!!!

I was not a Spencer hater, but i just did not see how Grant and Jerry would keep pumping this kid up when ever they got the chance. "In three years, he will be an upper echelon center", Grant would always say.

I have to say I saw it ALL last night!!! I am sold that this kid is going to be a player. He has all the offensive skills: passing, outside shot, needs a little work around the basket, mobility, runs the floor. But last night we saw the defense and the effort on that end of the floor. Standing flat footed in the paint and defending the basket.

Congrats Spencer!!!! I am a believer.

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE OF THE SACRAMENTO KINGS!!!!:D

I was pretty displeased when we picked Hawes because I wanted someone who was more athletic -- but I'm starting to become a fan, and if he keeps playing like this, he's going to change my mind real, real fast.

I managed to get some pretty good seats behind the basket at last night’s game. I think my family and I were the only 4 Kings fans at Staples (at least it felt like it). When Spencer went up the middle and threw down that one handed dunk, we imploded. It felt like 34,000 eyes were staring at us. After experiencing up close your intensity, desire, and skill set, I’m convinced you are a big part of the future of this team. Thank you Spencer for making it a memorable night.

I hope you mean exploded. ;) :p

Can you imagine if Spencer, in a year or two, can start averaging numbers around:

14 pts, 8 reb, 3 ast, 4 blks in 23 mins

He would be a double double threat every night!

Spencer, way to go, man! I am sure to most NBA fans he was some faceless bench rookie, but things appear to be turning around.

Here is to Spencer Hawes and here is to more time on the floor for Spencer.

Here! Here!

Right Warhawk. I did spot that grammatical error right after I posted.

Also, I have to admit, I got a lot of quiet satisfaction watching all the Laker fans leave Staples Center with their tails between their legs after listening to all of the smug “get busy Kobe”, “go to work Kobe”, and “these guys are bums” comments all night.

Spencer has a toughness and attitude this team needs, especially from a big man. The Kings have been so soft in the front line for so long (even Web was soft, though he tried to act like he wasn't).

The more confidence he gets and the more PT he gets he will show once again that Petrie knows how to draft.

Personally I'm glad Noah wasn't available when we drafted!

Wasnt it Durant who said Hawes had a mean streak to him? I remember a quote about him liking to dunk on people...

Hawes averaging 2.4 blks a game in march btw...Thats in 18 minutes a contest.

What I like about Spencer's outside shot is that he shoots it like a guard. Most big men who shoot from outside have a slow, deliberate motion to their shot, with no elevation on it. Even Dirk doesn't really jump when he shoots. Not Spencer. The guy squares his shoulders, jumps on his jumpshot, follows through, etc. It's surprising to see him shooting outside shots that way, especially after watching Webber/Vlade/Brad and their traditional big man outside shots.

That having been said, the best play Spencer made on the offensive side was the strong throwdown in the middle of the lane. I haven't seen a Kings big man rattle the rim like that since 2001!

I hope we see more and more of him down the stretch, with spot minutes for Sheldon Williams whenever possible. But good game, young man. Here's to more!

His post moves are garbage. fluff and razzle. But if he wants to win, he will need alternative power post moves, ala, amare. And truthfully hes a tad slow. I would like to see another pf/c brought in. Spencer does have a reliable stroke, from 18 ft+

I started the very first "Any questions?" thread the night Chris Webber came back from his injury.
Oh, I get it now! You own the "Any questions?" thread, no matter who the player is!

I think in the future, when I've been on a player's bandwagon since day 1 when only two or three others on the board are on the same bandwagon, I'll have to entitle it, for example, " Hawes - Get it Now?" I guess I will then own the "Get it Now?" thread.:D

He has to add strength if he's going to bang with NBA centers. He needs to be at least 260.
To put a fine point on it, I think there is a distinction between strength and bulk. What Petrie wants to do is optimize his strength while minimizing his bulk. So he can gain a "few" pounds, but still get a "lot" stronger than you would normally associate with that.
