Lakers discussion

Where are those Suns fans? LOL. They were so happy to beat the Celtics, they can't even beat the Sixers. Shaq with 6 points and 6 rebounds. :D
Okay, look around. Remember where you are. Laker fans talking about Laker stuff in a thread devoted to Laker discussion on a Kings board. You're already pressing your luck. Trying to draw Suns fans - or anyone else for that matter - into a smackdown ain't gonna fly. In fact, it's not even gonna get out of the hangar if you catch my drift.

Like my pal VF, I'm gonna assume that Shaq doesn't see the irony in naming himself after something that's prickly and can't move.
How's that tooth? Still feeling all warm and fuzzy?

:p

Did I miss something? Is the Big Aristotle now calling himself the Big Saguaro?

;)

They were talking big time smack after they beat the Celtics. And I wasn't really baiting them for a smackdown. Just wondering what they have to say now. But got your drift. :)

What i hate most about this resurgence of the Lakers is random lakerfan in a public place in Sacramento talking trash again. Just the other day I overheard some bozo going on about kobe and his team stomping our local team when they play soon, with the usual lame epithets. I think the best thing about when the Lakers were losing is that I didn't have to hear this drivel. Whee.

I would prefer hearing from that silly San Antonio fan who calls 1140 all the time to this. Can I get some Golden State trash talk instead? Maybe some Utah smack? When San Antonio ran off their championships over the last few years, I didn't hear their fans being abusive to other people in public. Why do some LA fans do it? total bupkis.

"Abuse" is a 2 way street. I've had my share hurled at me plenty around here. (Here, as in Sacramento, not Kingsfans.);) As you said...it's only from some Kings fans , just as it's only some Laker fans that do that crap. ( For the record, I'm not one.) :)

I live in los angeles. Laker fans are annoying and ignorant. Not all but many
This is a Laker discussion thread that has gone on quite nicely for a long time. It's not gonna dissolve into a bashing of Laker fans, in particular or in general. The Laker fans who are active here at KF follow the rules and are welcome to continue.

hoopsie - Gotcha, although I think Big Saguaro would be more fitting.

Nice win by the Lakers vs. the Mavs today in OT to start another winning streak. Sacramento will be tough - they always play the Lakers tough. :D
Don't be silly.

FYI - If you're planning on coming to this board on Tuesday and making comments about the game, please don't.

Na. I know better. This is about as much as I will say about the game. I know where I'm at. But I was sincere in saying that the Kings play the Lakers tough. It's not fun talking about hoops when you're always being threatened.

Oh, that wasn't a threat. It was a pre-emptive reminder. Can you honestly say ANY Laker board would be as tolerant of Kings fans as we are of you all?

Come on, Futuristic. I'm just making sure there's no misunderstanding about what is and isn't acceptable since, unless you've been here before under a different name, you haven't been around to experience a Kings-Lakers game.

It's all good.

You're right. It's all good. It's your board and nobody could care less if I disappear. So, enjoy the game, best wishes to your team.

Kobe had a good enough week to get Player of the Week Honors in the Western Conference.

Watts finest Andre Miller won it in the Eastern Conference and have the lowly Sixers playing some damn good ball.

Good day for Los Angeles.

Just as I expected, the Kings gave the Lakers everything they could handle. That MVP chant sounded like a lot of Laker fans were present at the Arco Arena.

I was surprised by how audible it was and that there wasn't the accompanying BOO! from the home fans. That was actually probably the loudest I've heard it in any away arena, even at a Clipper "road" game.

After watching them today, its pretty clear they are the deepest team in the NBA, and will only get deeper wtih Ariza and Bynum coming back, they are just stacked at every position.

The Lakers will be scary when Bynum gets back (they are already really good), but I wonder if we'll even see the young guy before the playoffs? I know a lot of people thought what happened to him wasn't really that serious and we'd see him back well under the 8 week mark. However, 8 weeks is pretty close by and it sounds like the knee is still a fair bit away from being even practice ready...

And I seriously doubt the Lakers want to take a chance on injuring the big kid further, so I don't see them pushing him -- especially with the Lakers doing just fine without him ATM.

I have a feeling that Jackson has his fingerprints on the extension. The consensus before the Gasol trade was that everything was nominal. As soon as they got back from their 9 gm trip, Jackson says Bynum "isn't where we want him to be". This was a day or so after Kupchak said he was scheduled for a mid-March return. Bynum and Kupchak have totally changed their diagnoses since Phil's comment.

I remember Phil being pleased that Kobe was going to miss the first 15 gms of the 2000 season so he could establish the flow thru Shaq. Don't exactly know how that would equate to Gasol, but I do know Phil's weird.

I would doubt that this is anything concocted by Laker management... but I do agree that the need to get Bynum back is much lessened by the arrival of Gasol.

If there were any risk to Bynum at all from returning too soon, I would imagine most Laker fans would be more than happy to just play it safe and have him wait until next year -- although being around for the playoffs could provide valuable experience.

After all, your window just got quite a bit larger; no need to rush it if there's even a hint of a question on the medical front.

LA Times, 3/21:

Jackson may have been putting out faulty information, because center now is expected back before the playoffs.

"I threw that out there [Tuesday] to kind of take everything off the table," Jackson said. "We're [now] saying it was three weeks as of [last] Sunday. It would give him a week -- four games, three games."

"The reality is if he comes back and he plays the Sunday game and the Tuesday game before the season's over, great. It's still not going to get our rotation [settled]," he said. "It's going to be an exercise in kind of getting him back on the court."

He makes it sound like it's a bummer trying to get Bynum into the starting 5. Philip Douglas Jackson..................

lakers are untested. that doesn't mean they can't perform, it means they've never proven anything in the playoffs.
I only see SA, Detroit or Boston as teams that should have any business beating the Lakers, health permitted. There are a lot of other teams w/ little experience as well. Height and skill in the paint should be the difference against anyone else. Dallas is toast for sure.
