Consolidated Artest rumor thread

Artest may be a lot of things, but overrated isn't one of them.

I don't think he's overrated either.. But he isn't a very good team player. Too much one on one for our style of BBall. Plus, anyone notice he has gotten a lot more vocal after fouls, and beating his chest when he makes a play? Where did all that come from? He hadn't been doing it at all until recently, and it's beginning to scare me. Is this the first signs of losing your mind?

Repeat. JR Smith is Garbage.
Lorenzen Wright is garbage too, but we just traded Bibby for him.

But both Smith and Wright are expirings, so we don't care if they're garbage. If we trade for Smith/Najera/pick, we've still got a pick to show for it, which is something. If we don't make a trade, all we've got is a long shot gamble that we'll be able to get something, anything, for him in the summer, which is FAR from sure.

So I'll gladly take expiring garbage + a pick over nothing at all.

New Speculation: Artest to Suns

Pheonix is said to be in the mix of talking according to the guy who said the Shaq and Bibby trade a WEEK before it happened (from RealGm, his sn is like DBDNdnasty or something like that). He says the deal would be Artest for the 8 million dollar exception they have and their Atlanta pick.

If that is true, Petrie, PLEASE make it happen. And Geoff could like it since I think he does not want to drop somebody. I would love this trade.

But Petrie is very smart, and IF a deal happens it would be right at the deadline, so he can ge the best offer.

We need Artest out for giving more playing time to the young ones and this one would be a great trade.

If this happens, the sad part shall be that I shall be rooting against Bibby, hoping Atlanta misses the playoffs.

This would be the best-case scenario IMO. The trade exception and a pick in the teens... That is as good as it gets!!!
Well one of their local announcers was on the radio in Phoenix saying that Kerr is working hard to acquire a certain Defensive Minded/Aggressive Wing player.

Said that Kerr will be working throughout the night to make something happen

They didnt say a name, but who do yall think that could be;)

SDU from RealGM said:
suns owner robert sarver has just been on the radio and said this
Sarver says a deal could be done tonight, but it won't be announced til tomorrow..they'll be working all night he just said
Defensive minded, wing player
were discussing it here

the suns have wanted a defensive wing since the marion trade and have been talking about gelabele, linton johnson etc, but in light of the rumour started by dbdynasty and his known sources, this could well be artest
INTERESTING :D. Wonder if Ron will play tonight. If not, we know he's gone.

The greedy side of me would push for ATL's pick AND PHX's pick this year because the Suns have been more than open to the thought of selling thier picks in the past to avoid tax.

If Petrie can pull of a trade where he sends Artest and even one of our 2nd round picks to PHX for the TPE and 2 first round picks (ATL's and PHX's) he would have done a great job.

We would then have 3 first round picks (2 of them possibly lottery and 1 late) and a2nd round pick to play around with. Also have some major $$$$ coming off the books next year and a TPE of some $8million to play around with. A LOT of flexibility there to make trades down the track!

No. If I have been correct all along, his behavior may calm down now that the tumor has been successfully removed from his daughter and she is on her way to Sacramento.

I sure hope his behavior improves.

Kenny Thomas???

I'm a big Artest fan and would personally love us to re-sign him and build around him. BUT if we could get ATL's 1st round pick and PHX's 1st round pick in addition to not having to take on any salary I think you'd have to do this deal.

KGO in Bay Area reported that Nuggets/Kings may be close to deal for Artest and that of course Spurs had gone the Seattle direction; that only the Kleiza details remain to be worked out. Pretty vague.

Seattle has phoenix's pick this year.

The SUNS traded their 2008 1st rounder to Seattle in the Kurt Thomas deal. A 2nd rounder wouldn't be out of the question though.
It hasn't happened yet but its funny.... many here bawked at me when i suggested Artest for T.E. & Atlantas 1st. Now it's all good?

I believe this deal has merit.

The Suns are in trade talks this evening with a few teams, trying to acquire a wing player in a deal for a second-round pick before Thursday's trade deadline.

Phoenix could know by the end of the night whether they can work out a deal for a player like the Los Angeles Clippers' Quinton Ross, Denver's Yakhouba Diawara or Seattle's Mickael Gelabale. Golden State's Mickael Pietrus is also an outside possibility but he would come at a costlier price tag with a salary this season of about $3.5 million, which would be prorated for the season's remainder but would also add to the Suns' luxury tax hit.

Phoenix is seeking a wing player who is a versatile, strong defender and Ross fits that bill at a great price. Ross' salary is slightly more than $800,000 but offers defense, rebounding and ability to play in transition in a 6-foot-6, 193-pound frame. He has been a part-time starter over the past four seasons for the Clippers.

Diawara, a 25-year-old Frenchman, makes less than $700,000 and also has started some over the past two seasons for Denver, bringing strength in a 6-foot-7, 225-pound frame.

Gelabale, 6-feet-7 and 215 pounds, was a player Phoenix has liked since before he entered the league but has spent recent time in the D-League after playing in 70 games as a Seattle rookie in 2006-07. The athletic 24-year-old, who is also French, has a salary of about $800,000 this season.

I wouldnt stop thinking about it, the Suns insider post at realgm broke the Shaq deal and got laughed out of the forum, and now he said the Suns are looking at Artest.

and we all know that the Shaq deal came out of nowhere, i wouldnt be suprised.

There's a lot of defensive wing players that would make more sense than Artest. Artest would put them way over the lux tax if I'm not mistaken and they have Grant Hill for the majority of the SF minutes, they don't need Artest.

In case anyone was paying attention we would have got run over off the court by the Blazers and Rockets in our last 2 games if it were not for Ron-Ron Tru Warrior Artest dominating late and anchoring our half court offense and zone defense. He made the Blazers all-star (Roy) look like a chump.

Fans are so myopic to conclude he is a head-case and discount every contribution the guy makes on the floor. Without Artest we become a pretty ruterless team with no low post option, and instead become a high post offense through Miller which becomes predictable and easy to defend.

Building with youth and picks and cap space is all fine and dandy until you end with youth and picks like Douby and Shelden Williams who come into the league with all the potential you can imagine and then can't hang with the big boys.

Kleiza and a #1 pick has potential to be fair value, but I am more and more inclined to resign Artest, and I think Geoff may see it that way too.

Artest is the man--a beast, still the all around best player on our team. A guy who can shut down the other team's star on many a night and still put up 20 points. I'd love to keep him....

But is he someone we need/want to keep around giving that we're in a rebuilding mode? By the time we're good again, Ron will either be making even more money than he is now, or his skills will have diminished.

I love the guy, but I don't see how he fits into the plan. In fact, having him around may net us a few more wins that we should and jeopardize our lottery chances. :)

And what did those wins do for us besides kick us further down the lottery? Rebuilding through the draft and cap space is our best shot at winning down the line, continual patchwork and signing headcases like Artest to be a cornerstone player doesn't a contender make. Of course rebuilding through the draft isn't surefire, but newsflash nothing is; we just have to do it right.

I think there's a SMALL chance that the Kings might re-sign Ron Artest to some kind of extension IF he's not traded by in about 18 hours.

His deal would have to be LOADED up with incentives and clauses for production and behavior. The guy is soon to be 29-years-of-age so maybe a 2-3 year deal would be much preferable to a 4-5+ year contact if that's possible.

I would NEVER rule in or out anything when it comes to discussing Ron Artest. He's so mercurial the dude might go for a lucrative one-year deal saying he only wanted to play to age 30 and then retire:)

Let me just propose this hypothetically, and by the way we only won one of those games, what if Dwight Howard was our power forward instead Mikki Moore?? I know we all can dream, but let's just say we had a true superstar on our roster, then what? We would be tearing up the league, and ALL Kings' fans would be LOVING Ron Artest!!!! There would be ZERO talk of trading him, his muscle poses and chest thumping would be tolerated, probably even endearing....He wouldn't have to hog the ball because he would have a player of his caliber, or beyond his caliber to blend talents.

Ron Artest is everything you could ask for in a player, on the court. Last time I checked, that's where the games are played.

Getting rid of a player because you don't like his personality makes as much sense as crowning Miss America because she is skilled at the game of Soduku.
