This poll is a revisit to a topic we had in November. I'm making the poll good for seven days.

The more rational of the fans would wait until all the facts are in but isn't it relly quite clear? There have been some minor storms that blew over without incident. The team is working hard and actually playing defense as Theus said they would. Now they need to cure jumpermania and I suspect that will be a hard habit to break as it is easier than getting crunched by a big and is the way guys and gals practice their shots. It's familiar. But does the jumper work? I think when the team slashes they come out better and pretty soon that will become obvious even to the most thick headed. (BTW, Dwyane Wade made 20 free throws last night. Hmmmm!) The evidence is all around and Theus wants it. I think it will occur.

He is teaching on the fly with Beno and it seems to be working with all the courtside chats during free throws. Reggie knows what he wants and it seems that the team is buying into it.

Now we await the Artest crisis that should occur. Reggie has a nice relationship with Artest so other than a suspension, I don't think Artest's influence will cause too much trouble.

His courtside demeanor is great. Maybe it's not important in the long run but he's not out of control in his behavior yet seems actively involved. He ACTS like a good coach.

I have no trouble giving an opinion this soon.

I actually expected us to be about 7-18 or 6-19 right now, so I'm quite pleased. He seems to have dropped the I'm gonna be like sloan and pop routine, and the players seem to respond well. I must admit that I was hesitant about liking Theus as a coach, but so far so good.

Honestly, Theus wasn't on my short list of people I wanted to see become the next head coach. But he wasn't on my short list of people I didn't want to see be the coach ( :: cough *Whisenant* cough :: ), so I was on the fence about him to begin with.

I am still on the fence about him. I mean, we are only 11-14, so it's hard to argue for him as a Coach of the Year candidate just yet. I'll have a better idea of how I feel about his coaching job later in the year when it's clear that we aren't going to make the playoffs, or if/when players like Bibby and Artest are moved in salary-clearing trades. Will we implode like the Dolphins after Chambers was traded?

He seems to handle personalities well. He is taking a lot of time working with Beno, and it's definitely paying off. There have been no Bad Ron occurences so far this season, other than a couple of "tantrums". Brad Miller is playing as well as he ever has, but that can be mostly attributed to his improved conditioning, I think.

I think the most telling area of "The Reggie Experience" so far has been the adjustments the team has made in the past couple of weeks. Salmons is playing smarter and more within himself, while becoming steadily more efficient. Ron is moving the ball a bit more. Beno is steadily improving. Brad is being used according to his strengths. Mikki Moore (though I hate the signing) has contributed more and more in recent games. It seems like the team is getting better week by week, which is a good thing.

When Bibby and Martin come back, it will be good to see what happens with Salmons/Artest and Beno. I think Beno can be effective off the bench; don't think Salmons can be. Will we move Artest to let Salmons be the starter, or vice-versa? What affect will that move have on team chemistry? How will Reggie respond to the shift in balance when those two guys are back in the lineup?

We are definitely better than we were last season, even though the record doesn't show it. A lot of that has to do with the coaching, and a lot of it is perspective and expectations. I will be ready to decide whether I like Theus as the coach in a couple of months, but as of right now, he is definitely a breath of fresh air that we haven't had for some time now.

I had the opportunity to see a few NM games last year when Theus coached them. It was near the "feel good" time when he was talked about for turning it around. Than I got to listen to his speech he gave before they headed into the NCAA tourney (or was it after the first game?). Anyhow I was impressed.

Things I have noticed when watching him coach the Kings which are all positives.

1. He pulls players depending on the situation even if the guy just got into the game. Something us Kings fans havent seen much of in th past.

2. During free throws he will call a player over to talk to them about a specific situation, or what he wants that player to do.

3. Theus is vocal when trying to get the players to run a set rather than letting them figure it out for themselves.

4. Players genuinely seem to respect him as a coach, and we are seeing players that we used to think couldn't play defense because "they weren't that type of player" actually playing better defense.

5. Motivation affect.... Players want to actually play well for Theus. Whatever he is doing to motivate the players is working.

6. The fans really respect Theus (my mom hated Musselman for some reason. Called him a turtle.. She loves Theus, and it's just not because he's good looking lol). This team is reverting back to a "college" type crowd/fan base. The excitement is there, adn a lot has to do withthe coaching staff, and how they have motivated the players to play.

If there are things I left off please add them. Bottom line is that Theus is a good motivator. Nobody can knock him or that. If you havent heard the NM speech you should. He drew like a lot of fans just to give a motivational speech re: NM BBall. He is that type of person.

Ahh, here is a part of what Theus had said in one of the pep rallys following the students chanting "nice shot a-hole" during a game. Bottom line is THEUS RULES!

"What we have created here, it wouldn't have happened without you. You've intimated the other schools," Theus said to the students, who crowded into the food court area of Corbett Center.

But Theus also encouraged the students to come up with something different.

"I'm fairly real how I talk, how I deal with you," he said. "Be creative, do your thing without profanity. There's a lot of other ways to do it. I'm not telling you what to do, but if you do your part we'll continue, as a team, to do our part."

Considering the injuries to starters and the apparent handling of RonRon I'd say 8.5 on a scale of 10. At least 1.0 of the missing part is his being a rookie and learning as he goes. Part of the territory. 0.5 of the missing is his penchance for pulling guys too quick, right or wrong, it makes it tougher on the guy as well as him. Overall tho' doing a great job. If Kings make playoffs he is top 2 for Coach of the Year.

HAHA... Someone voted terrible.

I wonder who it was/is. What makes you think he is a terrible coach? Who would you rather have as a coach.. Speak up person that voted terrible..

terrible is too strong a term. I dont like what we are doing with Hawes.

You do realize we are one injury (which is probable w/ this team) from Hawes starting, or getting major minutes.

If you were the terrible vote I need a better reason than that :D

If you were the terrible vote than it's kinda funny to vote based on a stat sheet. I have been able to see them all and he has a decent rotation. He said he will play the players that perform, and he has pretty much lived up to it. We don't see KT out there stinking it up for 35 minutes.

I did because I hate wishy washy answers, and I most certainly do not agree with how we are developing our 10th pick. Terrible, however, is too strong. Bad poll, bad answer.

Also, Theus probably would not start Hawes.

I agree on that. HAWES NEEDS MORE MINUTES!

That said, I like everything else that Theus has done, so I still have to give Theus an "A" even though I really, really, really want Hawes to play more.

Back to Hawes. This bit where Theus plays him a few minutes here, a few there, depending on whatever, doesn't cut it. Play him, and feed him the freaking ball! He's regressed from the beginning of the season, and I attribute that mostly to the unpredictability of minutes and not being an integral part of the offense like he should when he's in there. So, when it comes to the bench, who is better than Hawes? Douby? Thomas? The only one that is better now is Cisco. So even if Theus is looking at "the now" and not building for the future, it makes no sense not to have Hawes be more a part of the offense. That's my Hawes rant for the day....

FYI - I kept the three responses pretty much the same as the original poll in November.

WOW, I took the time to find it and you erase my comment!!!!! THNX
You dug up a thread that hadn't had a post in TWENTY days. I thought a new poll would be a lot more relevant. Sorry it got your panties in a bunch.

Your comment has been merged above into the current discussion.

Ahh it's cool. Those were originally my answers.. It was supposed to be somewhat of a joke because I didn't think anyone would answer that he was "terrible". Kind of a misleading poll which was made up to be misleading :D

But I do love the votes! 56 to 1! WOOHOO.. That's a damn good approval rating....

I haven't watched many games being now that I live outside of Chicago and don't want to pay the premium for the NBA package.....I think Theus is doing a great job his 1st year. At the very least he didn't come into the season with a DUI and constantly yells at the team from the sideline (Muss) from what I gather. He also has the respect of his players, or at least makes them accountable for their actions (Artest, etc). Not too shabby! :D

I lived through the Bill Musselman era at the University of Minnesota and the one year of son Eric.

There are different ways of yelling. I always wondered why there wasn't a team revolt at the U of M but I think Bill survived because they were young and not full of themselves. Two were first round picks.

The Musselman yell has a certain shrillness that is easy to ignore. You don't ignore Theus. Honestly I've never been bugged by Theus and I think he came into the league thinking he could sit quietly on the bench until he quickly learned that the guys didn't function well without his input. I don't see his yelling as a bad thing at all. I'll listen some more. I guess the fact that so few people are in the arena makes him easy to hear.

His whistle would bring dogs from a 100 mile radius. My goodness!

I don't find his yelling a bad thing either. He seems more in control of what is happening on the court then any Kings coach I can remember.
