I was at the game last night, and it was great fun to see such a wonderful performance by our guys, sans Kevin and Cisco. I revelled in the victory and counted myself lucky to have been in the gym last night to have witnessed an unlikely, happy event.
But I do not really take much from this game as far as projecting what might be down the road.
We had sort of an alignment of planets last night, with all our front line playing very well in the same game, shooting greater than 50% as a team, EIGHT blocked shots as a team, Spurs on a back-to-back and a step slow, and our point guard having a super-energized career game.
Frankly, what happened last night could happen for any NBA team.
The difference between the good, mediocre, and bad is consistency in performances. The good teams are very consistent and have outings like the Spurs-last-night infrequently (that's why they are 12-3 now); the mediocre teams have a game like ours-last-night in one game and the very next they suck, and the cycle repeats; and the bad teams have a game like ours-last-night every so often and stink most of the rest of the time.
Before we can draw any conclusion about "what could be" and "our potential", we need to watch a few more games and see if the Spurs win changes anything in how we play as a team. If 5 games from now we are on a 6-game winning streak, well then we really have something to point to with last night's game. I fear that last night's tremendous performance could turn out to be the performance of the year for us.
Last night was a whole lotta fun (unless you were KMart), but let's see what we do with our friends from the Bay Area tomorrow night.
