Beno!

He actually dictates tempo well and plays under control, which is great for us and exactly what we need in a time when one-on-one play has taken precedence in some of our players' minds. But in terms of assist-making, I think he's okay for a combo guard, but he's definitely not at a point guard level in court vision. He'll do a little bit of everything which includes passing within the flow, shooting mid-rangers and threes and playing okay defense without causing many problems, but in terms of helping our team improve the 12 assists that we only had today as a team...not really the guy. But he did play well today and was a breath of fresh air, so props to him. =]

I feel certain he will start against Utah and Deron Williams. I don't beleive Cisco can hang with Williams all night.

I think it's way too early to judge his assists, considering he had never even played 5-on-5 with the Kings. As Koz and crew said in HPL, he did a good job of distributing AND only had one turnover in 26 minutes.

Not a point guard? Did you watch the same game I did? He's a PURE point guard.

He could of had more had others made the open shot after an excellent pass of his or didn't fumble the ball down low.

From what I can remember he could of had at least 3 more assists.

Good job young fella.

not to mention he would have had 4 more assist had the King he passed it to not gotten fouled in the process of shooting.

Beno Marciulionis!! I think the white guy lefty thing reminds me of Sarunas.. but anyway.. it was nice to see him out there.

Tasmanian Devil is right

The board's Tasmanian Devil is right--he truly is a pure point guard.

Quoting Coach Theus: "He's a pure point guard...played in superb fashion..."

I think that Beno's skills would make Bibby expendable, due to his HUGE contract; shipping off Bibby would make room on the cap room and this is what I had called for in an earlier post earlier in the year in my predicting that Bibby would be traded sometime in this season. I still think that it'll happen.

Kinda ironic that Beno came to the Kings from the T-Wolves who waived him after being traded to Minnesota from San Antonio. Now the Kings go out on the road for two games facing Utah and Minny. Hopefully, Beno starts against both of 'em .

What in the world made you say that? Actually its on the contrary. Hes got incredible court vision. Made numerous no look passes as well as passes that were right on target. He finds the open man all the time and this has only been ONE game.

The thing with trading Bibby is that yes you knock his contract off of the books but he is injured right now. Not many teams if any are going to give you anything in value in exchange for Bibby for the shear fact that he is injured right now.

Ah, gorsh.

;)

Seriously, I am really impressed with his apparent team-first mentality. The fact he played for Popovich is a bonus, as he's used to playing disciplined ball and putting forth maximum effort.

I recall Coach Theus being so frustrated with PG play after Bibby went down and right after the opening loss to New Orleans he said, something along the lines:

"We need help at the point big-time, and Geoff knows it, and is looking to get somebody in here."

Then many Kings fans were pontificating about somehow bringing in the shoot first, vertically challenged Earl Boykins or that loud-mouth, elder statesman Gary Payton, etc.

I think we have to give some credit here to GP for immediately keying on the 25-year-old 4th year NBA pro Beno Udrih and getting him for a minimum cap level contract. I was very high on Beno and said so here right after after Theus went public with his desperation plea.

I didn't get to see the game, I was stuck driving all day, but did get to hear it on KHTK.

It sounded like the team played a lot better with an actual PG (no surprise), but was he really that great? I didn't really expect to have someone who got 2 assists in 26 minutes be instantly nominated as The Guy Who Should Replace Bibby. So my question is: was he contributing tremendously in the intangibles department, or is everyone just ecstatic to have a PG on the floor again?

Good point. Petrie has been able to find true gems on occasion. Remember, Bobby Jackson wasn't playing when Petrie found him, either.

Beno's 2 assists meant little and here's why. He had *ONE* turn-over in his 26 mins. playing virtually the entire 2nd half. He had 5 boards by just being in the right place it seemed and hustling. He made a couple of crucial baskets in crunch time. Best of all he had a couple of the best passes I've seen all year from any Kings player. Let me re-phrase that. He had THE ONLY decent passes I've seen all year from any Kings player. One was a transition open court on the dime bounce pass through traffic for a Salmons lay-up. Another was a short bounce pass, again in traffic to Hawes for his first NBA hoop which was a bit off-balance dunk. His defense was not great, but good enough. He didn't get any help from the Kings bigs on a couple of penetration hoops by T-Wolves guards, but mostly stayed in front of his man in crunch time. Pops would have been so proud and no doubt Reggie was.

Congrats Beno, goodwork on your 1st game as a King. Proove the doubter wrong, work hard and dedicate yourself to the game, success always waits in the corner.

@Kingsfans, about him, it has NEVER been about talent. Hopefully he really turned the corner, grow up as a man & professional, and can be a respected backup PG of your team for the near future. Cheers ! :)

Remember, Bobby Jackson wasn't playing when Petrie found him, either.
Bobby agreed to his contract in late July 2000, and signed it on August 2nd, which is pretty normal for a FA signing. Udrih is more like a salvage operation, I hope that he finally plays up to his talent level.

From what I've read not too many discounted Beno's talent. It was mainly his focus that was at question. Remember, he was JUST let go from his old team for a reason. It's too early to let him off the hook on that yet... let's keep him honest and keep him accountable. I have no doubt he could be big for us if we keep him on a short leash...

I agree.. It was night and day. The few minutes I saw him tonight was like a breath of fresh air. He is a point guard.... The rest of the team can only play stretches at point before they revert to their normal game.

i dont think he should be the guy to replace bibby but i think he will be a great backup when bibby comes back!~
