The joy of TV series on DVD

Here it is, a boring Saturday night... Instead of doing nothing, I reached under my DVD player and decided to watch whatever movie I selected.

Imagine my joy when I didn't grab a movie; I grabbed season 4 of 24! Nothing better than a couple of hours of Jack Bauer to liven up the evening!!!

24 is, so far, the only series I've actually purchased on DVD. What TV shows are in your DVD collection?

Crank Yankers - Season 2

It was a gift, I swear.

Right now I'm watching The Wire, just finished season 2, but I'm borrowing them from a friend.

Watched Six Feet Under using Netflix and an occasional video store rental when my wife couldn't bear the suspense.

Friends, Arrested Development, The Office.

Someone bought me Curb Your Enthusiasm (season 1) and although I like that show, it is painful to watch at times and I can only get through 1 episode at a time. It's funny but hard to watch. I would be so mortified if I was married to him.:)

...What TV shows are in your DVD collection?

"Hill Street Blues", Seasons 1 and 2 (the other seasons are not out on DVD yet)

"Da Ali G Show", the complete series (12 episodes) on two discs

"Playboy After Dark", which has one show from the early 60's and another one in the late 70's/early 80's.

I'd like to get more collections, especially of shows that I have never seen. One that comes to mind is the animated spoof, "Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law".

Thanks for asking! :)

"The Simpsons" (seasons 1-9)
"Aqua Teen Hunger Force" (volume one -- I need to get the others)
"Space Ghost Coast to Coast" (ditto)

There are several other shows I'd consider, however, including "South Park", "Six Feet Under" and "The Addams Family". And... I don't think they're available on DVD yet, but the second "Twin Peaks", "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and the 1960's Batman series go on sale, I'm buying.

Whether or not I'd find the time to actually watch any of these... that's a different story.

Battlestar Gallactica Miniseries/Season 1. I rented the second season and managed to catch season 3 as it re-aired in Hi-Def. I think that's it, we borrow or rent most tv shows.

The West Wing, Lost, Smallville, Deadwood, The Sopranos.

I love watching series on DVD, but then i get used to it.....

Then when I start watching the series live again (with repeats, commercial breaks, and weeklong waits in between new shows) it sucks.

seinfeld

LOST

lost is THE show everyone should be watching. of all the network and cable programming out there, lost is the absolute most creative, the most story-driven, and the most character-driven. the mysteries, intricacies, and anticipations surrounding the show can be frustrating at times, but it is, by far, the best show on tv right now in terms of scope and vision. but it is a pain to actually watch it on tv. commercial breaks and week-long waits kill the momentum. that said, watching lost on dvd is incredibly engrossing and rewarding. you can invite friends over, serve up some snacks, turn out the lights, and take it in as many episodes at a time as you want to. season 3 should be coming out on dvd sometime this fall, with season 4 beginning shortly thereafter...so if you haven't caught on to the lost craze yet, you've got lots of time to catch up as season 4 plays itself out.

dig it...

I forgot to mention that I have "At Last, The 1948 Show", a short-lived British comedy sketch series back in the mid-1960's. It featured the early work of Marty Feldman, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and Tim Brooke-Taylor.

Cleese and Chapman would later become a part of Monty Python. Brooke-Taylor later formed a comedy trio group called The Goodies.

Word.

I have Seasons 1-3 also (downloaded Season 3 and watched it on my computer) and I'd never watched a single episode on TV. A friend made me start watching Season 1, and I got hooked. Watched all three seasons in a couple months.

And now I'm DREADING having to watch Season 4 on TV with all the commercials (TiVo should help) and the week-long breaks. But, ABC just announced that they will have 16 week marathon season, with no breaks in between episodes, so that will make it a little more bearable.

Heroes is also a good one to watch on DVD. I watched the whole season on TV, and I can only imagine how much better it must be to watch at your own convenience.

I like Heroes as well, but talk about one of the most disappointing season finales of all time....boy did they screw the pooch on that one.
It left a lot to be desired, but I wouldn't call it one of the most disappointing finales. Especially when you consider how wide the realm of possibility is on a show like Heroes. Anything can happen in Season 2.

Two I'd like to get: "24," which I came in way late on, and "Rescue Me," which friends say is terrific.
I started watching TV shows via DVD beginning with the 1st season of 24. I have been hooked ever since. I watched the first season of 24 in like 5 days because it was so addictive.

RESCUE ME = The best show on TV that few people have ever heard of.....it is simply one of the best shows in recent memory. I just finished Season 3. It was great until the final two episodes and now I am kind of stressed out that they may have jumped the shark on this one.

TV shows on DVD + Neltflix = wonderful new way to watch TV; I am talking about no commercials, HD picture and dolby digital surround sound. You can't get that from the FX network (Rescue Me).

...add in a DVR for shows that you cannot wait for the DVD release (like Lost) and I am now in nirvana. :)

I don't know....

I've watched a LOT of TV in my life.....

Heroes was such a bad *** show all year long, with an obvious nod to an eventual showdown between Sylar and Peter.....and it just absolutely disappointed.

I'm a fan of the show, but I would honestly rank the season finale as one of TV's all time disappointments....
