[NYL/CON] Trudi Lacey is an idiot

I recall mentioning after Buescher was named MIP last year that we should have made a play for Janel McCarville, just based on Lacey's obvious mis-management of talent: two years in a row, the MIP was a player that we acquired in that trade to Charlotte for Tan Smith. Perhaps more to the point is that both Powell and Buescher were considered non-factors by the powers-that-were in Charlotte...

After seeing the way that McCarville has played for New York this season, I'm almost entirely convinced that we're watching Déjà vu all over again... McCarville, after a shaky start, has really stepped her game up for the Liberty, and is averaging 13pts 8reb and over a block a game for the month of July. It's not at all inconceivable that, if she keeps playing like this, she could very well be the MIP this season, which would make three years in a row that the league's most-improved was a player that was previously buried under the bench by Trudi Lacey in Charlotte...

A keen basketball mind, that one is...

In case anyone is wondering why I posted this, McCarville had ten rebounds and a career-high 24 points in a loss against Connecticut today.

Slim, I know you are not just coming to the realization that Lacey is an idiot. In fact, I seem to remember that we have discussed this in chat. And, while I agree with this sentiment, and that McCarville is playing great, I have to give my vote for MIP to Rebekkah Brunson. Either way, the League gets a 3 in a row. That would either be Monarchs with 3 in a row MIPs or Lacey's screw ups of 3 in a row. :p

Most certainly not, as I mentioned in the OP; it's just that McCarville's recent play has created a "rub your nose in it" situation to me.

Personally, if I'd had the GM duties, I'd have tried to trade up to get McCarville in the dispersal draft. Hell, after the starters and Lawson (and Walker, of course), I'd rather have McCarville than any other two players on the team. A rotation of Brunson and McCarville at center, with a healthy Walker at PF would definitely have given me a warm, fuzzy feeling about the Monarchs post-Griffith. A hell of a lot more than Brunson and Williams, that's for sure.

The two elements in the byline of this thread are self-defining. I thought it would be impossible to top Agler's destruction of the Lynx, but Lacey did it and probably lapped him doing it.

I'm not sure I would have traded up to get McCarville, she's playing extremely well and all, but I'm not sure I would have done it. I have the feeling she would have "cost" more than Williams did. If you could have gotten her for the pick we gave up to get Williams, maybe. She'd be a nice addition at the high post from a passing perspective and that would have made me fuzzy. But the question marks about her health, I'm not sure I would have been rushing up the dispersal draft hierarchy.

i think im one of the few who actually like Williams. Granted, she's been caught off gaurd and is sumtimes beat down in the post, but i say give her time and she'll be a good asset to the team. When she started in place of Yo those couple of games, she stepped it up and contributed on offense. For this being her first season with the team, I'd say she's been a nice addition.

Im not disagreeing with ya'll, just my 2 cents on Adrian.... ;)
