I recall mentioning after Buescher was named MIP last year that we should have made a play for Janel McCarville, just based on Lacey's obvious mis-management of talent: two years in a row, the MIP was a player that we acquired in that trade to Charlotte for Tan Smith. Perhaps more to the point is that both Powell and Buescher were considered non-factors by the powers-that-were in Charlotte...
After seeing the way that McCarville has played for New York this season, I'm almost entirely convinced that we're watching Déjà vu all over again... McCarville, after a shaky start, has really stepped her game up for the Liberty, and is averaging 13pts 8reb and over a block a game for the month of July. It's not at all inconceivable that, if she keeps playing like this, she could very well be the MIP this season, which would make three years in a row that the league's most-improved was a player that was previously buried under the bench by Trudi Lacey in Charlotte...
A keen basketball mind, that one is...
In case anyone is wondering why I posted this, McCarville had ten rebounds and a career-high 24 points in a loss against Connecticut today.
