Shareef for Posey

Rockets: Trade with HEAT, Kings Coming?

http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_22865.shtml

One rumor has Mike Bibby coming to Houston, but that makes absolutely no sense. Adelman and Bibby weren't exactly best friends, and the last thing the Rockets need is another attitude-laden point guard. A more likely scenario would be Shareef Abdur-Rahim to Houston with a re-signed James Posey going to Sacramento and Alston going to Miami. Abdur-Rahim won't beef about playing behind Scola and he will give the Rockets additional depth at the four/five. The HEAT would much rather move Posey than Haslem and Posey has already had discussions with the Kings that are said to have gone well.
It seems clear that the Rockets are close to finding a solution to their "shortage" in the front court and their crowd in the backcourt. Houston fans can only hope Daryl Morey and Rick Adelman know what they're doing in giving up a great team player like Alston in favor of two me-first guards in Mike James and Steve Francis.

Why do we need another SF? We have Artest, Garcia, Salmons already, unless we are planning to move one of them this trade makes no sense.

well according to Petrie (today) Douby and Flaco are going to be backing up the 1 so we might need someone at the 3 especially if Salmons is backing up Martin.

I disagree. We have a logjam at the 4 and 5 positions. This would at least releive some of that. Salmoms is really a 2 who can play some 3. Posey is a pretty good defender at the 3, which means that maybe Artest is going somewhere. We have to wait and see what else developes, if this trade goes through.

a "resigned" posey and traded to sac.. this makes absolutely no sense. we could sign him straight up if we didn't dump all the $$ into mikki moore. even if we had $$$ available WHY THE HELL DO WE PICK UP ANOTHER SWING and PUSH OUR YOUNGS DOWN MORE??

Well Salmons is gonna backup at SG and Garcia will probably see more and more time at the PG spot.

Does anyone have the stats on Posey's contract? Hopefully its like a 1 or 2 year deal not worth a lot that we can get rid of soon. Also Posey may be a bit more movable as far as making a bibby trade or something else like that happen. Hopefully we trade Posey and KT or Posey and Miller in some kind of package deal, thats about all I can hope for here.

Posey has no contract. He's a free agent. For the deal to work, there would have to be a sign and trade.

Posey - the only guy in the whole NBA who Peja ever talked smack about...

After Peja scored 41 and Posey gave him a dirty tackling foul late in the game, Peja said he figured Posey would remember the game since he gave up the number of points on his jersey.

I loved Peja that day!

Wait and the Rockets get stuck with SAR and his contract? Oh God help us if that happens. We somehow manage to get rid of Juwan Howard and get a serviceable point guard and now we're trading for another soft, non-rebounding PF?

Thankfully this is from hoopsworld so we know it isn't true.

the only way I see this work is if its a sign and trade for a contract where we can basically dump Posey after this year and save cap. If so i'd be all for that.

Did I miss something? Who is Flaco?

Garcia is a 3 to my knowledge. I really want to boot artest out of here to start Garcia. He is the player I think will benefit most from minutes this year.

I think in order for a sign and trade to work the player needs to sign a minimum of a 2 year deal which would shave a year off Shareef's.

It would make great sense if we were trading Ron. That way Posey could be Garcia's backup and not ***** about it and spot start if need be. but like I said only makes sense if Ron Ron is traded and the deal for Posey isn't more than 2 years.

The way this offseason has gone, who knows. Posey would be perfect for our uh, plan.

But that said this makes absolutely NO sense (stop me if you;ve heard this before), and most importantly its hoopsworld, where the kiddies writing the stories are so blissfully unaware that they don't even realize it makes no sense.

when was there conflict with bibby and Adelman?

Things seemed pretty good until about Adelman's last year, but some signs of strain started appearing at that point. I didn't see any real coverage of it, but if you watched the games, it was pretty clear that all wasn't well.

this trade would make no sense... unless we could trade artest as well... but why would we need posey? i could understand if he were an expiring contact but not as a free agent... reef to houston is fine but to take posey back in the deal... eww....

The trade makes sense if you realize Shareef has no game left (because his knees are shot) AND for every 2 points he scores his opponent scores 4 points AND if you realize he has as much passion left for the game as a waterboy AND if you check scoreboard and realize he has been on a lottery team every year of his career less one AND if you realize there is such a thing as addition by subtraction AND.....if we sign James Posey to a 1 year contract with team option for a second then let's do it.

Post #150 baby -- hail to the kid :D

We don't have a logjam anywhere, unless you count mediocre players as a logjam, then yes we have a logjam of those.

it seemed to me like it was out of pure frustration on both parts. the Kings just weren't doing as well as they had in the past, and neither one of them liked it

but, if Bibby were to go to Houston you can be sure that he and Adelman will be getting along, because that's a scary team. Yao, McGrady, and Bibby?! plus, Battier who is an excellent glue guy. and Bonzi's there too, and i seem to recall him playing quite well under Adelman

Bibby completely tuned him out. During timeouts when Adelman would draw up a play Bibby would be sitting on the scorers table looking the other way. Ball would then come in to Bibby and he would run his own play and you could see the coaching staff just saying.....WTF was that???

I wouldn't call it conflict. Bibby didn't like not being the dominant playmaker and didn't like being used as an off-the-ball player, but he always went along with it. I don't think Adelman was losing control of him, nor do I feel he was rebelling. There were some "wtf" moments, but to tag that as mutiny instead of just bad execution is presumptuous.

Whatever their relationship, Adelman got the best out of him. Muss gave him free reign last year and look what happened. He had a horrible season, and more than likely his days here are numbered.

Sure what's one more point guard? We have 6 of them already. A 7th wouldn't really be a problem.
